"This is a quick demonstration of my TR-707 that I'm selling on eBay. I quickly go through the default programs or tracks that came on the 707 when purchased new.

I've got the 707 plugged into a Peavey Audition 110 from the 90's, and I used my iPhone 4s for the video capture."

"This is one of the earlier models, in the 3000 range serial number meaning it has the famous old oscillator board. It has been full serviced, tuned, calibrated by my engineer Dean over at Fiver Star Engineering here in Mesa, AZ so it is guaranteed to work great. It is rough around the edges cosmetically so it's definitely not in mint condition, this is a players synth, not meant to be on display in a museum..."

"(c) 2014 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Korg EPS-1 with a delay effect from the Roland DEP-5.

EPS comes from "Electronic Piano & Strings". The fully analog EPS-1 is one of the few touch sensitive string machines. It is a quite long keyboard. It has not only strings - it also has a piano section with several (non mixable) presets. On the piano section you can add a stereo effect (TREMOLO or CHORUS, both with parameters for SPEED and INTENSITY). Both sections have an equalizer."

The Mouth Of Hell

The Mouth Of Hell from Atomic Shadow on Vimeo.

"This piece was built around two tracks that were processed and edited to tape. One was made from recordings of my Panoramic Wave Generator instrument for Kontakt and played back on the Pioneer reel to reel. The second was made with a fascinating iPad app called Stria by Euginio Giordani and Alessandro Petrolati. The app recordings were edited and played back on the Akai cassette machine. Both tape machines were then bussed to the Lexicon processor.

The EMW 200 mini synth provides a droning, bass type sound. The remainder of the sounds are loops of processed vocals that are performed on an SP404 sampler, using the onboard effects and the Korg KPQuad."

Diy Serge Animal Clone Panel Ken Stone Coa Modular

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"DIY Serge custom clone panel etched and assembled by Dmitri of COA modular. The panel features left to right: one oscillator module, Serge Smooth Stepped Generator, Serge Triple Wave Multipliers, 2 Serge '73 filter modules, Dual Universal Slope Generator, Dual VCA, and a mixer module (VCO, SSG, TWS, 2x '73 Filter, DUSG, VCA, MIX). All modules assembled from Ken Stone circuit boards. This panel was painstakingly etched by hand by Dmitri of COA modular. The custom etched panel faces are $250 alone due to the tedious amount of labor it takes to chemically etch in the old school chemical method. In building this panel I was hoping to achieve a poor man's Serge Animal, with a balance of modules that would provide a great stand alone synth, whole allowing for easy expansion. Needless to say, the panel sounds great (the filters are amazing) and provides a vast array of sound options from deep throbbing drones to chaotic bug music and everything in between. Included is an external psu, a simple passive universal adapter box for interfacing with other gear, and 20 stackable Pomona banana cables (5 18" and 15 12" cables). The panel works perfectly apart from the Wave Shape section of the oscillator. This hasn't worked for me since I got the panel, and I'm clueless on how to fix it. Dmitri offered a free repair, but I didn't want to part with my new panel at the time. It wasn't a significant loss to me as the Triple Wave Multipliers module offers much more unique sound shaping capability..."

"3 analogue vcos (sawtooth, square, triangle waveforms)
2 envelope generators (adsr)
analogue 24 db lowpass filter with resonance (vcf)
2 lfos (sawtooth, square, triangle, random waveforms)
50 preset- and 49 user memories
integrated step sequencer

the mfb-synth ii is a monophonic synthesizer module. it uses analogue circuits that are voltage controlled for oscillators, filters and amplification. the synthesizer is controlled by midi, cv/gate or the integrated step sequencer that can hold up to 25 sequences with 32 steps each. here are the details:

the vco sections contains three individual oscillators that are scaled to the volt/octave standard. the selectable waveforms are sawtooth, square and triangle. vco ii offers an additional impulse wave and pulse width control for the square wave. the octave can be set between 4', 8' and 16' or 32'. an additional detune amount of plusminus one octave can be set for vco 2 and vco 3. the vcos can either be modulatied by an lfo or vco 3. vco1 can be set to sync and two digital ringmodulations are available as vco1+2 and vco2+3.

the mixer allows level control of all oscillators plus noise and the level of the external audio input. the lowpass filter is a resonant 24 db/octave design. emphasis (resonance) can be set up to self oscillation. the cutoff frequency can be automodulated by an lfo or by and vco. key controls the influence of the keyboard pitch on the cutoff parameter (keyboard scaling). both vcf and vca have their propietary envelope generators with attack, decay, sustain and release parameters. the vca can also be modulated by an lfo for characteristic tremolo effects.

there are lfos. the waveforms offered are sawtooth, rectangle, triangle and random. the can be set to „one shot“ mode to be used as simple envelopes. the mfb-synth ii 50 preset- and 49 memory locations. the synthesizer will respond to incoming velocity data (midi). the velocity information can be used to control either vcf cutoff or vca level. pitch- and modulation wheel are both recognized. the step sequencer sends and receveives midi clock and responds to start and stop midi commands.

Delta Music Research Polyphonic Modular System 1100 SN 003

via this auction

"DELTA MUSIC RESEARCH STUDIO SYSTEM 1100
POLYPHONIC ANALOG MODULAR SYNTHESIZER, SERIAL No. 003

This is my fantastic Delta Music Research Studio System 1100 Polyphonic analog modular synthesiser. Built in Canada it's thought by ex-Moog technicians, there are very few of these systems in existence and this is Serial No. 003. It's probably the only one in the UK, though there are other users still in Canada and the USA.

The 1100 has all the advantages of an analog modular system and none of the disadvantages. Firstly although it appears modular, you don't have to install modules individually as they all share a large control panel circuit board, so there's no fiddly screw mounting system. In any case it's hard to see why you would ever want to change any modules when you have this great specification -

4 x Voltage Controlled Oscillators (switchable audio/LF)
4 x Voltage Controlled Envelopes
4 x Voltage Controlled Amplifiers
2 x Low Frequency Oscillators
2 x 4-channel mixers
2 x Voltage Controlled Filters
White/Pink Noise source
4 x Voltage Attenuators
6 x Multiples
Balanced Modulator
Inverter Summer
Voltage Controlled Flanger
Springline Reverb

Because the system has four of most modules and comes complete with a microprocessor controlled four-voice polyphonic keyboard, it's designed to play as a polyphonic analog synthesiser comparable to a polyphonic MiniMoog or an Oberheim 4-Voice. But mostly you'd use it in monophonic mode, and with the ability to modulate oscillators at audio frequencies and add voltage controlled flanging, it's capable of some incredible abstract sound textures. It's easily the equal of an EMS Synthi VCS3 in terms of being able to create and sustain its own evolving, clangourous and metallic sonic landscapes.

The system cabinet is 24.5 inches wide so this is a much more impressive object than the usual 19-inch systems. As such it would make an incredible centrepiece for an advanced analog or sound effects programming studio. Included also are the keyboard, box of patch cables, and 110V convertor for use in the UK (this powers both modules and keyboard).

Physical condition is very good. Some minor marks on the black tolex covering. One knob cap damaged but working (it may take you half an hour to spot which one).

For functionality refer to the YouTube demo where you will see and hear the oscillators, filters, LFO's, white noise, flanger, reverb, attenuators and others modules working, and this comprises the statement of the current working condition. I do not guarantee every one of the 250 or more controls and I can't demo the ADSR modules at the moment as I have no voltage trigger source for them. There may be some non-working options, or maybe I'm just not quite clear about the distinction between black (voltage) and white (audio) sources, and in fact I don't have much idea of the intended function of the AC/DC VCA's, the Balanced Modulator or the Inverter Summer. Some of the functions are simply not quite what you're used to - the two filters for example seem subtly different, though they are labelled the same.

I haven't been using the Power Amp (presumably a Headphone Amp) output as there's a spare output on the rear, but in the demo I simply take audio from any point in the system via an Attenuator as volume control.

The keyboard powers up and is assumed working but I'm not sure if I ever had a program cassette for it. There are PAiA user discussion groups easily accessible which will help you get the keyboard up and running, but I have always the synth with other control sources including MIDI controller keyboards with MIDI-to-CV interfaces, and aside from creating sound effects, this is much more likely how you would play the instrument.

In summary, the instrument is sold exactly as seen in the YouTube demo with no guarantee for every function. It is an advanced instrument absolutely not intended for beginners and not suitable for those who don't have some engineering and service backup available. As such no returns will be accepted.

PAYMENT/DELIVERY
Because of its size and value this instrument is intended for collection in London with cash payment. I'm very flexible about collection times and am based a couple of miles from the North Circular. You will not be able to collect on foot - the modular goes in any car boot, the keyboard (if you want it) on the back seat of any car. Parking is easy.

If you seem reputable there is a small chance I would sell and ship to you. I can crate the modular, just, but would probably decline to ship the keyboard which will be scrapped. You would pay by bank transfer and no other method. If you can not collect in London and pay cash, and expect shipping, please make contact at least two days before the listing end with your details. I will probably delete any bid which seems to require shipping to most non-UK countries.

Madrona Labs Aalto 1.5 Now Available

via Madrona Labs:

"Hi all! This winter has seen a flurry of programming here at the labs. Aside from finishing up our new synthesizer, Kaivo, I have done some work fine tuning Aalto and making sure it plays nicely with recent operating systems and hosts.

Aalto 1.5 is out now. As always, you can get the release version by logging in and clicking “My Downloads,” and the demo at the Aalto product page. Version 1.5 has some major compatibility improvements for both Windows and Mac users. Performance should be dramatically improved on some Windows systems. I’ve improved the usability of the Patcher and dial UIs.

On Mac OS, if you have a Retina display, you are in for a treat. As always, you can smoothly scale Aalto to a wide range of sizes, or even zoom it to full screen. This new version has a new OpenGL-assisted renderer so graphics are amazingly sharp, at full Retina resolution, in compatible hosts. It may be “only a graphic thing” but I find this change means that using a tiny little Aalto window is now possible, which can really improve workflow on a laptop screen. (note: unfortunately Ableton Live does not yet support full-resolution rendering.)

Here’s the list of major changes in Aalto 1.5:
Fixed an issue that was slowing down Aalto dramatically on some Windows systems.
Fixed an issue requiring a runtime support pack on some Windows systems.
Improved latency through the patcher when running at large host buffer sizes.
Aalto now draws at full resolution on Macintosh Retina Display, in compatible hosts.
Aalto is now compatible with Soundplane version 1.0 and higher.
Fix mousewheel direction on Mac OS 10.7 and higher.
Accelerated drawing to the screen on Mac OS with OpenGL.
Optimized drawing scheduling to avoid glitches, especially in Logic.
User and factory presets now share the same location.
Improved ergonomics of patcher with larger handles and smoother graphics.
Fixed a drawing problem with bipolar dials.
Improved drag ergonomics for dials.
Kaivo is coming soon.

A quick rundown in case you haven’t heard: Kaivo is a software synthesizer that combines granular synthesis with physical modeling. Physical modeling is a way of making sounds using equations that model vibrating objects in real time, capable of generating sounds with an amazing liveliness, but often in forms that are difficult to control. Kaivo brings some of the latest academic research in this area to a very usable, patchable package. It wraps up two distinct kinds of synthesis that make surprising new sounds together. It’s going to be a great machine for new flavors of percussion and for making involving pads and textures like nothing else out there.

The Madrona Labs users group on Soundcloud has been very active this month with Kaivo tests as well as some nice new Aalto-related sounds and songs. Kaivo is in late beta (now closed as we sprint to the finish) and on track to release within a few weeks. I will announce a release date and price very soon.

Soundplane News

Soundplane owners: the 1.5.0 release of Aalto now works properly with the updated t3d format used in the Soundplane client 1.0. So you can now use Aalto with all of the new 1.0 zone features.

The Madrona Labs shop has a new layer of insulation on it, and as the days get longer I'm looking forward to getting back in there to work with some wood again. Very soon after Kaivo comes out, I will take orders for the next run of instruments. So the Soundplane run 3 schedule is now looking like: early March ordering, followed by late spring / early summer delivery. If you have any Soundplane questions in the meantime, please shoot me an email!
