Next Rez30 Filter (MAM RS3) 3 Band Pass Resonant Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is same unit as MAM RS3 but under different label. No longer made these are rare and a wonderful filter for your electronic music. You set the centers of 3 resonant frequencies and then sweep around them for beautiful swells and sweeps under control of the internal LFO or outboard CV control...

This is MONO in but STEREO out here's a good description -

Controls

Stereo Pan
The RS3 gets it's "mono in, stereo out" designation from Filter 1 and Filter 3 being panable from hard left to hard right. With the control fully counterclockwise, Filter 1 is panned hard left, and Filter 3 is panned hard right. Moving the control to the center places all filters "right up the middle" basically making the unit mono, and then continuing to full clockwise reverse the position of Filter 1 and 3.
Refering back to Mode 3 of the LFO modulation, note that the modulation of Filter 1 and 3 comes from different sources. This is where you will get the greatest stereo effect from the RS3, and this is where the "Jarre Strings" sound lives.

This control also has an effect over how the RS3 can create a stereo spread when using the Envelope Follower. Again, Filter 1 and 3 are panable across the stereo field, and with the three follower channels each driving a separate filter, there is magic to be had.

Resonance
Controls the resonance of the filters.
Volume
Controls the output volume.
Bypass
Switches between the dry and effected signals.
Bandpass 1
Controls the frequency of filter 1.
Bandpass 2
Controls the frequency of filter 2.
Bandpass 3
Controls the frequency of filter 3.
LFO Rate
Controls the speed of the LFO.
LFO Depth
Controls the depth of the LFO sweeps.
LFO Mode 1/2/3
Mode 1: LFO 1+ to BPF 1, LFO 1+ to BPF 2, LFO 1+ to BPF 3
Mode 2: LFO 1+ to BPF 1, LFO 2 to BPF 2, LFO 1+ to BPF 3
Mode 3: LFO 1+ to BPF 1, LFO 1- to BPF 2, LFO 2 to BPF 3
Env Depth
This is a classic envelope follower which allows for sweeping the pass frequency of the filters. But, there's a twist. The envelope follower does some frequency separation at three ranges, "Low", "Mid", and "High", with a separate follower circuit at the output of each of these "channels".
Env Decay
Controls the decay of the envelope
Env Polarity +/-
The polarity of the signal from the envelope follower is switchable from Postive to Negative allowing for classic Down sweeps, as well as Up sweeps, of the filters.
Man/Ext Modulation Depth
When something is plugged into the External jack, the Manual control becomes an polarized attenuator for the signal. In the Middle position, the external signal will have no effect. Moving clockwise from center will cause the external signal to sweep the pass frequency up, while moving counterclockwise from center will cause a sweep down."

Sequential Circuits TOM Drum Machine with rare 32K expansion

"SCI TOM model 420 drum machine with rare upgrade to 32K memory so you can store a gazillion patterns. Includes aftermarket power supply and ORIGINAL documentation including ultra-rare quick setup cards.

The coolest thing about the TOM is the pitchable samples - 32 choices- and the reversable samples and "chording" features. This unit is from nonsmoking home studio and in Excellent condition.

In 1985, the TOM was a really advanced drum machine, fully programmable and featuring digitally recorded drum sounds. It is similar to the DrumTraks, but much more advanced. Its sound fidelity is very electronic and it offers just eight of the most basic drum kit sounds. However, each drum sound has a much more flexible tune control than any other drum machine of its time, allowing you to change cymbals into gongs, for example. All sounds can also be layered, allowing for chord-like drum tones, tom rolls and all kinds of wacky sounds. You can also play its sounds in reverse and program the pan position and volume of each sound. Sounds on EPROM cartridges can add up to eight additional drum tones for different sounds. This machine is also MIDI equipped, able to transmit and receive all of its controller information including volume and tuning. TOM's sequencer allows you to record rhythm patterns in real time or step time. It can store up to 99 patterns and each pattern can be up to 99 measures! As many as 99 patterns can be linked to form Songs. Sequencer memory holds 2,300 notes, but factory updates were available to upgrade that to either 5,000 or 10,000 notes - THIS UNIT HAS THE 32K MAX MEMORY UPGRADE! Program memory could also be saved/loaded to casette tape. The TOM also featured an "Improv Factor" to create drum fills which can add variation to your patterns. TOM's "Human Factor" allowed you to program minor changes in the tuning and volume of your patterns for a 'humanzied' feel - before that term existed in the sequencing lexicon. The TOM also had a "Reframe" function that let you change the location of the down-beat in your pattern at the touch of a button..."

Individual outputs for each filter plus a mixed output. In addition an external CV in or Expression Pedal in for controlling the filters with external devices, footswitch pedal input and two CV outputs enable audio triggering from each filter. Announcing MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS!

Hi everyone, this is just a quick post to let you know I launched a new MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS site.   For those with RSS readers you can subscribe to new listings via this link.  In the future, you can find the RSS link to the right of "Latest Listings" on the site.

I was going to write up a long winded note on why you want this site, but I'm guessing it will become apparent over time.  In short it's an online classifieds site in the truest sense.  Think Craigslist or your local paper.  However there are a few major advantages.  One it's tied to MATRIXSYNTH which means it will be heavily promoted here and you will get the entire MATRIXSYNTH audience looking at your items.  Two, to start, all synth listings that go up there will get a post on MATRIXSYNTH as well as a link in the For Sale section above. If it gets to be too much, I will defer to the site guidelines for posts that go up here, however if it gets that busy it means plenty of eyes will be on MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS.   Three, listings will stay up for 90 days or until you sell and/or cancel the item.  This should give you plenty of time to sell the item, or items.  The fee is $10 per unique item, however, if you have several units of the same item, you can sell them all in that one listing without additional listing fees.  That said, there are no additional listing fees period.  List a $2000 synth?  The fee is still only $10.   This is a true classifieds site that you are just paying to print something out for others to see.  That also means all transactions between buyer and seller are up to you.  You pay to list the item and MATRIXSYNTH steps out, so be sure to read the  Privacy, Terms of Use & Avoiding Scams section of the site.

Take a look and let me know your thoughts.  All synth listings there will get a post here on MATRIXSYNTH to help get it started.   Anything goes as long as it is legal of course.   If you need a new category on the site, let me know via the comments, email, or the contact link at the bottom of any page on MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS.

"Here’s a great video of the history of E-Mu, from the founders Dave Rossum and Scott Wedge. It was posted by Kevin Monahan on the E-Mu Facebook page. The host is Denise Gallant, one of the pioneers of video synthesis. Denise built one of the first advanced video synthesizers in the 1970’s. Also on the program, Kevin Monahan and Max Mobely. I had the pleasure of working with Kevin when I was at E-Mu. Kevin was one of the longtime E-Mu employees, and was one of the sound designers for the Proteus. He received a patent for his data compression work on the Proteus."

PS. As I read before I bought it, many of these have bad value jumping rotary encoders, and so did mine. I think I'll replace them at some point, but as a tip I did get them to work ok with contact cleaner spray. Don't give up on your first try, I had to add many many layers, but in the end jumping values happens rarely now."

Yamaha DX-1

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Among Yamaha's DX line of synthesizers, the DX1 is definitely the biggest. With a dual 6-operator digital FM engine, it's like two DX7's wrapped up in a wood-paneled case and comes with a truly professional weighted 73 note keyboard sensitive to both velocity and aftertouch. The DX7 style membrane buttons have been replaced by actual push-buttons, display screens and the overall layout of buttons and diagrams is nicer and better organized. Sound-wise, the DX1 is like a fatter DX7. It too features FM synthesis. That means that although the DX1 is a digital synthesizer, its sounds are unique and fresh with an analog/digital hybrid feel. Programming however, is not at all like analog synth programming. All DX series synths use FM synthesis. Fortunately the advanced DX1 has display screens that show amplitude modulation, envelopes, velocity, levels and de-tuning parameters unlike previous DX synths so you can better visualize what and how you are editing parameters. A neat new feature for the DX1 is that two patches (Channel A and B) can be used simultaneously with the keyboard in layer or split-mode. This mode is generally 16-voice polyphonic, but with just one patch loaded you can have 32 voices of thick polyphony! Pretty good for a synth almost 30 years old!.."

The Solton MS-4 plugs

Published on Mar 3, 2014 organfairy·412 videos

"One thing I soon noticed after purchasing the Solton MS-4 synthesizer was that it has an unusual amount of plugs on the back side. I looked in the manual and found out that it is actually possible to connect up to 16 (sixteen) pedals plus a bass manual to this little unit. However, all the pedal connections are made with non-standard plugs - that is: I have never before seen musical instrument pedals connected via DIN or 9-pin sub D connectors. Therefore I decided to find out how they are connected so I can later make my own pedals.

The music is something I made back in the analogue days. It is my version of the old UB40 song 'Kingston Town' played on Technics SX-C600 organ and Boss DR-220 programmable drum machine."

Ådne Meisfjord of Serena-Maneesh talks KOMA setup

Published on Mar 3, 2014 KOMA Elektronik·49 videos

"On March 1st 2014 the KOMA team travelled to Oslo to see endorsed artists Serena-Maneesh perform a special By:Larm performance of their latest project Somnambulism at the Stratos venue in the penthouse on top of one of the highest buildings in town. During the soundcheck the groups synth mastermind Ådne Meisfjord tells all about how he uses his KOMA Elektronik effect pedals in the project and in the studio.

Serena-Maneesh has since 1999 been through numerous incarnations, but the project has become synonymous with the composer, singer, musician and producer Emil Nikolaisen. After a few releases, Serena-Maneesh has been established as a big name internationally. Nikolaisen spent four years on the album Abyss in B-Minor which was released on 4AD Records in 2010, and received excellent reception.

Review MICROBrute B with XR20 - Analog MIDI Bassline Basics by The Drum Machinist

Published on Mar 3, 2014 VJ FRANZ K·649 videos

"Great basslines for Hiphop, Dubstep, more. Connecting the new MICROBrute synth to the XR20 Drum Machine by MIDI cable to produce a new track, and I'll show you the steps. Wobble? No Problem. We'll even change the bass into an Electro kick drum with different patching. The machines are both very affordable, and you could produce a complete track with only these. Subscribe, ask questions, or request what you'd like to see. Thanks for watching! - VJ Franz K aka The Drum Machinist
