Update via David in the comments: "New research indicates that use of white noise generators to help babies sleep may have long-term deleterious effects on hearing. The advise is: don't."

I did a quick search as I was curious if it had to do with the frequencies being played or volume levels and proximity of the device to the child. The following is via CNN and seem to be the consensus among other reports I found:

"But how loud should these machines be? How long should you keep them running? Should you put them close to your baby's ears, or on the other side of the room?

A new study in the journal Pediatrics suggests that some noise machines have the ability to produce sounds so loud that they exceed safe levels for adults, let alone infants, and therefore could potentially damage infants' hearing and hinder auditory development.

However, it's important to note that the goal of the study was to measure the maximum effective output levels -- not to observe direct effects on children. Experts disagree on what recommendations should be given on using these machines..."

"early days with the new lady in my life. all patches programmed by petrol limiter. *NOTE* No custom waveform was used in any of these sounds, I havent even got around to using that yet :p

my thoughts---

PROS:

*very easy to program, button per function

*a real "hybrid" sound, halfway between analog and digital

*handsome, utilitarian appearance

*great sounding filter

CONS:

*cranking the resonance really pinches the sound, especially if the filter isn't moving via an envelope.

*no detune for the unison mode(mono)

*a separate lfo routing or envelope for osc2 would exponentially increase your programming options

*headphones jack is noisy to the point of unusable. probably just my unit though"

Added some digital and spring reverbs, let it go, adjusted a couple of modulation factors from time to time... The Benjolin is a wonderful module, its sound and filters are fantastic and the cvs/gates it offers are crazy. The possibilities are endless, this patch shows only shows a tiny bit of what it can do.

As you can see in the pics, this is in near-mint condition, both operationally and aesthetically.

It has a Kenton socket modification on the back rear side, which enables it to be controlled through MIDI, using a suitable midi to CV converter such as the Kenton's PRO-4. "Here's a quick test of the new Cwejman QMMF-4 module with plenty of saturation.

2x Cwejman D-LFO's (4 oscillators) are fed from the 4MS VCA Matrix into the Master 'Audio Input' of the Cwejman QMMF-4.

From the Master Input, each filter voice from the 'POST' output: (1. OSC-SAT, 2. OSC-SAT, 3.RES, 4.OSC) is fed back into the 'Audio Input' of the previous filter channel. Each output of the Cwejman PH-4 is used to modulate the Cutoff modulation of each filter channel (offset by 90 degrees). Audio Input per filter channel is turned up to feedback each filter voice into the Master MultiMode Output, of which the 'WET' signal is being directly monitored."

The Elements Spring Reverberator is well active here too....! The row above on the Mk1 is another 3 Oscillators/Mixer/Filter/EGs etc and that is being driven in a percussive way froma Korg SQ-10 Voltage Controlled sequencer...watch out for one of my (own) x-series modules fly out of the rack I'm at as I bash away! I wasn't screwed in- and it made a soft landing! As mentioned in previous videos- the Elements Synthesizer is available for pre-order from Analogue Haven/Schneiders'/Alex4 and Awave! Here I explore some of the qualities of the deep Spring Line Reverberator that come with the synth- there is a Send/Recieve to the Spring Line Tank- it's not just the Spring line that you can attach to the Elements- as was suggested to me at the Frankfurt Musik Messe- why not use other things too......towards the end of this video- I've connected a Yamaha RX50 that I dug out to experiment with. I use pitch shifting and echo! The best part of the Spring Line unit circuit that I've done- is that it is practically, noise free!"

"This is my Sixth video of the Elements Synthesizer which features the 'Send/Return' Jack on the back! I've coupled once again the somewhat ancient Yamaha RX-50 effector that I have here. Also used- a Korg Sq-10 sequencer and some of the MacBeth Mk1 5U modular units...I wanted to record this as I was pretty blown away by the hugeness of sound! Ambient Improv with Korg Mono/Poly, Access Virus TI, Nord Lead 3

"This is a culmination of two nights' worth of noodling around in the "Command Center." For Part I, which goes from the beginning to around the 9:00 mark, a Korg Mono/Poly provides the arpeggio, with delay and reverb from TC Electronics D-Two and M-One processors. The pads are from a Virus TI with a touch of ephemera from Lexicon's MPX1 and PCM80 processors. Part II sees the Mono/Poly doing arpeggio duties again, with the same effects processors as Part I but different settings. A Nord Lead 3 adds a menacing, abrasive pad I cooked up myself, and again the Virus TI provides a pad, with both of these receiving a coat of silky lushness thanks to the aforementioned Lexicons.

Played live. Recorded into Logic Pro X through an aggregate device consisting of two Mackie Onyx series firewire mixers, the 1220 (modded by me) and 1620i.

Photos were shot with Nikon D3, AF Nikkor 35-70 f/2.8 set to 35mm Macro mode, on a tripod, with 1/10sec. to 1/2sec. exposure times. Slightly tweaked in iPhoto. Some gear that made it into the video was actually not used on these tracks, but did provide blinking light goodness nonetheless. Video made in iMovie."
