Cwejman SPH-2 Spatial Phaser

Published on Apr 8, 2014 bigcitymusic·321 videos

"00:00 - 01:19: Mutable Instruments Braids is being run through the Cwejman SPH-2. The Cwejman D-LFO channels are CV modulating the 'Left Comb' and 'Right Comb' parameters of the SPH-2.

At 00:30 a drum loop from the computer is run through the Cwejman SPH-2.

01:20 to 02:10 - In this section no audio is being run through the SPH-2. Instead, the SPH-2's 'Feedback' parameter is set to max which puts the module into self-oscillation. The Cwejman RG-6's bipolar saws are used to modulate the 'Left Comb' and 'Right Comb' parameters. The RG-6's 'High Random Probability Spread' is modulating the SPH-2's 'Rate' CV, and the RG-6's 'Normal Random Probability Spread' is modulating the SPH-2's feedback parameter."

A Simple Patch for Complex Melodies - Serge Modular Synthesizer Tutorial

Published on Apr 8, 2014 Doug Lynner·19 videos

"Using a sequencer, a sample and hold and two clocks you can create complex melodies.

Though this is illustrated on a Serge the concepts apply to many modular synthesizers. Let me know how you apply this on your modular synthesizer.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

via the seller: "This particular model is an old Wave 2.2 with the latest Wave 2.3 software installed (V 8.3), effectively making it a fully functioning Wave 2.3 with 16 oscillators (two per voice), 12-bit resolution, dual modulation wheels, SSM 2044 VCFs and 8-part multimbrality. I'm led to believe this model was made between 1982 and 1984. I had it shipped over from Germany after a service just over two years ago, I used it for about a month and after that I stored it away as I had no time to study it properly. It is a complex synthesizer, with extremely interesting sounds and a unique character. It has a few scuffs due to its age but apart from that it is in perfect conditions..."

Update via Qwave in the comments: "The serial number is most likely not 265. All pictures and my PPG wave 2.3 with the past PPG firmware 8.3 show this number during booting. The serial number of the PPG waves is written on the back. I guess, all version 8.3 EEPROMs show this serial number."

Ritual by Surachai

Full write-up including the process of creating the release on TRASH_AUDIO.

"After several years of creating complex arrangements and aurally dense albums, I decided to simplify the tools and work with its impact on composition and sound. One of my favorite synthesizers is the semi-modular Cwejman S1 MKII and knew that it was complex enough to shape all the sounds I needed for an album. The Cwejman’s architecture is familiar to existing 3 oscillator systems but its semi-modular nature, filters, envelopes, and even distortion are completely unique. Although using only one sound source simplified the sound I believe Ritual is, frequency wise, the heaviest album I have made..."

Detailed Internal Pictures of Roland MC8 SN 670704

These in via Loscha. You can grab the zip here.

"This Roland MC8 has been in Australia for all of it's life, it seems. We don't know who owned it until the late 90s when it came into the hands of the current owner. The 'Sidecar' is safely in storage (so safe, the owner can't remember exactly where), and, like many people, we don't have the 60 pin Hirose cable, but they are now available online.

I hope everyone enjoys this amazing piece of technology.

The album I had on whilst opening it up and documenting it was Dare, by The Human League. They used an MC8 on this album, programmed by engineer Martin Rushent, who sadly passed away in 2011."

Elektron Analog Keys - CS80 Inspired Patch & Creating Patches From Scratch

Published on Apr 5, 2014 JunoVHS·9 videos

"A demo for an original patch on the Elektron Analog Keys.

There are a few key elements to this patch: Oscillator Retrigger being a big one. This is using two oscillators, a couple LFO's and velocity modulation effecting the filter 1 cutoff point, as well as some slight resonance and decay time for louder notes. All effects are onboard, chorus delay and reverb.

The Elektron Analog Keys is proving to be quite beastly."

Elektron Analog Keys - Patches From Scratch #2

Published on Apr 6, 2014

"In this video I start working on a deep resonant bass sound using basic waveforms, really cranking the resonance on both filters to the point of self-oscillation, and tuning the second filter so its in actual intervals above the fundamental note. This gets further and further from a bass and eventually I use a randomized LFO to modulate the filter frequency (which remember is self-oscillating), creating some cool bleep-bloop sounds with the aid of onboard chorus/delay/reverb."

Build a Modular Synth in seven months!

Published on Apr 7, 2014 scorbie·46 videos

"After seeing the modular documentary I Dream Of Wires, I decided back in September of 2013 I wanted to get one.
After months of obsessing and invaluable help from a few friends and people in the modular underworld, my first case is just about complete.
Even building my own now!

Rick Holt of Frequency Central & Rickard Steffensen from Sweden have been incredibly patient and supportive and I will forever be grateful.
Made a couple really good friends.

Visit frequencycentral.co.uk and look up Steffensen on Muffwiggler.com.
Small manufacturers who's modules are better than most of the well known makes out there.

In the case:

Frequency Central: System X VCO, Waverider DVCO, Electro Cardiogram Filter, Vogue Filter, Multipoles, Waverunner LFO, Continuum Phase Shifter, Trans Europa, Raging Bull* & System X S&H/Noise* (* DIY build soon).

Steffensen: Oscillarp (X2) and Envelarp ADSR (based on ARP2600).

Doepfer: A140 ADSR, A180 Multiples, A147 VCLFO, A106 Xtreme Filter, A138 Mixer.

Oakley Classic VCA, Tiptop Z3000, Make Noise Maths, Pittsburg MIDI2 and a few more bits to build including 4 ARP Odyssey VCOs and an ARP2600 12db LPF.

I've DIY'd all of the Frequency Central and Steffensen modules in the case. About two rows worth.
Didn't know how to solder seven months ago, let alone understand a schematic or what a resistor was. :)

Midlife crisis. Yep. And it f*cking rules!"

"Up for sale is a (1) very rare RSF Blackbox, family of the RSF Kobol. It's a 18 keys synthesizer made in the seventies by Ruben and Serge Fernandez in France. The synthesizer works perfectly! Optical it looks ok for it age, the wooden sides are a bit damaged and there are some minor scratches on it (see photo's). It comes with a printed owner's manual. It's a 220V version and the serial number is: 13282.

The Blackbox can turn your analog monophonic synthesizers into polyphonic by the use of CV/Gate with both type of voltage source as CV Volt/Oct and/or Hertz Volts and both gate types as positive gate (V-Trigger) or negative gate (S-Trigger).

So basically you can control & use every kind of analog synthesizer with this unit like Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Kawai, Sequential Circuits, Moog, ARP, Oberheim, Other RSF, Etc..."

A truly time capsule synthesizer. This is the cleanest minimoog that you will ever find. It's a museum piece, collector's grade item. Just fully serviced/calibrated with all new keyboard bushing from vintage vibes. All internals were cleaned and check. Everything is all original except for the rubber feet. Major Update for midiSequencer

iTunes: midiSequencer - anthony saunders

"What's New in Version 1.5
Major Enhancements:
Completely rewritten to use MidiBus library to get rock solid midi clock, messages and OMAC & enable future features (e.g. sysex & MTC).
Now have 4 optional & independant midi controllers per step.
Improved graphic performance on most controls & app switching (50% less CPU).
Device panel allowing individual device(network, virtual, midi interface or app) setting of active(on/off), midi clock(active) & latency.
Latency per interface from 0 to 1000ms for manual synchronisation control on external equipment and slow apps
File save/load/rename/delete of working bank = named file of 20 snapshots + user entered description
Skip buttons brings up moveable panel for easy changes during play
Introduced note conform to scales (chromatic, major & harmonic minor ascending) with enharmonic note names.
Increased gate% to 400 to allow extended note on (and therefore overlapping note play, longer/shorter ornaments etc)
Clock multipler - now shows all 4 options at once for multiples.
Ability to draw controls using swipe and instant place using double tap (both optional via settings).
Banks can be shared via email and managed externally via iTunes file sharing.

Minor Enhancements:
Clock multiplier keeps same (if possible) tempo - will clamp to max in range(0-255,0-510 in steps of 2, etc)
Performance rollout panel (invert key rotary and ornaments on/off & snapshot load)
Added new ornaments: Acciaccatura, 2 & 5 tuplets (so now have 1,2,3,4,5 repeated notes in one step interval possible).
Midi enabled & device rollout at launch (use Settings to disable this if you wish)
Randomise controls option to restrict to within current min/max range(i.e randomise between top & bottom control values shown)
Nudge Left & Right now rotate sequence even during play or delayed until cycle reset
Transition from NoteTime/StepTime during play virtually seamless.
Ornaments ignored if BPM>=200
Loop type now picked from list
Tempo set with slider and decrement buttons always >0 to stop accidental stopping. Use Stop button for this.

Main Bug fixes:
Fixed bounce* logic with R & Rx resets
x in noteTime was halting sequence
Removed audio glitch in other audio apps when switching to background mode
sequencer no longer suspended after a few minutes when in background mode
Ornaments now use music scale tones rather than semitones
Improved control selection especially when near buttons for ipad mini"
