Shruthi XT SMR-4 MKII - First Noodle

"After two days of hectic building I finally put my Shruthi XT kit from Mutable Instruments together. It's a good thing I bought the XT since my Shruthi currently has no LCD or LEDs (I'm ordering different ones than what the kit came with).

This demo is just a noodle of the XT control surface and SMR-4 filter. I tried to capture some of the squelchy and fat characteristics of this particular board. I plan on using a 4PM filter eventually in the XT, just have to build it first!

The sound is straight from the output of the Shruthi into my MOTU interface. The Shruthi is being sequenced by a MIDI-enabled KORG Monotribe. Enjoy!"

"this was gone over during the past month and fully cleaned, and tested.
the filter was slightly adjusted to be more squelchy or acidy, not exactly but rather close to a 303.... they already sound pretty similar btw.
i've compared this unit to 2 other 101's over the past month and it has a unique sound, and actually none of the 3 sounded "exactly" the same.
the sequencer in the 101 is magic, similar to the 303's and it really comes alive when used.
portamento and slide are present even.

cosmetic/functional condition:
slight discoloration on the body, very minor wear. a boss sticker on the back. replacement battery cover from technology transplant . =(
battery compartment is clean, springs are good. all keys and the key bed was just gone over and is 100%
all sliders intact with caps but some caps aren't perfect and show signs of use and or wear.
for the bender section i made little padded velvet inserts for the toggles, as they were rotted and old.
not museum quality, but still an awesome synth.

mystery issues:
the lfo modulation to vco seems to not do anything.
the bender sections bend to filter seems to not do anything.
it's a easy fix i believe, with some slight adjustments to the interior pots.
but i've already taken too long working on it.
the filter works great, just not with the pitch bender."

ADDAC111 Ultra .WAV Player - Part 2 from ADDAC System on Vimeo.

ADDAC111 Ultra .WAV Player - Part 3 from ADDAC System on Vimeo.

"The ADDAC111 ULTRA .WAV PLAYER is the long waited upgrade to our praised ADDAC101 .WAV PLAYER.

While keeping all functions of the original, there’s more dedicated controls as well as a few new functions.

For this version we chose to use Micro SD Cards, this decision was made in order to help the hardware construction and make it only 3cm deep.

The .Wav Player basic principle of operation is simple:
The Loop Size, Start Point and Sample Rate defines how the loop is played.
Loop Settings defines if sample is looping or playing only once.
File Access if it advances to the next or previous file.
The VCA section controls the overall volume of the module.
And finally the Envelope Follower generates a CV voltage related to the amplitude of the audio signal pre-VCA.

An Expansion module, ADDAC111B, was also created to allow users to recall the first 8 files through dedicated trigger signals. This allows sequencing of files.

Ultra Rare VINTAGE SUZUKI EB-255 Bass Master Synthesizer MIJ Japanese Antique

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This extremely rare item is in perfect working order. The four square knobs are octave switchers, and the others seem to effect timbre, frequency and resolution. The knob on the far left has a different top slider, so I dont know if it is missing a cap, or if it is designed that way. It functions fine. These things are just so rare that I cant even find another photo to compare it to. There was an EB 250 for sale a few years back, but that was a lower end model version of this one.

Signal is mono via headphones. Has built in cable and housed in its own carrying case. Optional voltage converter will be included for free, along with your regional adapter plug, if necessary. All keys and functions tested and found to be fully functional."

Anyone know more about these? Curious if it's more organ than synth in tone.

E-Mu Launchpad Retro MIDI Controller - iPad Compatible?

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Totally cool, totally retro. This midi controller would look amazing next to your iPad, laptop, or DJ setup. (Yes, iPad: no midi drivers needed, just the Apple camera connection kit plus the included MIDI-USB cable!)

The EMU launch pad midi controller was designed to work with the popular sound modules EMU made in the late 90's but it takes on a whole new image here in the 21st century. It works with any midi device. You can go old school and connect the Launchpad inline between your keyboard and the rest of your setup (it merges its MIDI In into its Out). Or you can connect it directly to you laptop or iPad/iPhone with the included MIDI-USB cable. (This item does not make any sound on it's own.)

Works with any iOS7 devises, with an added Apple connector kit ,to control any core-midi app.

It gives you a good number of MIDI control: 5 sliders, 1 button, 1 footswitch input, and 1 proportional pedal input (voltage or resistance). You also get a pitch wheel, increment/decrement buttons to switch songs, banks, and programs , a MIDI Beat Clock feature, 13 transposable velocity-sensitive "drum pads" that is also a one octave keyboard, and a bank of 6 buttons that can be in either "transport mode" (sending MMC/Sequencer Control SysEx) or "trigger mode" (locking on notes to play background pads or rhythms, assignable to any note and channel).

This piece of kit is pretty rare and no one even realizes how great it is! Check out those totally retro olde-computer keyboard style "drum pads." How great are they!! And velocity sensitive!

Includes MID-USB cable and power supply.
Built like a tank in the U.S.A!

Did I mention those great drum pads?? :)"

Rare Casio VL-10 Keyboard Synthesizer VL-Tone

"The smallest keyboard instrument ever made! 29 keys (buttons), 3 different sounds, and 10 drum rhythms. Plus, it's a calculator!

The Casio VL-10 VL-Tone synthesizer is one of those bizarre frankensynths of the 80′s, part calculator, part synthesizer, part drum machine. This keyboard is one of the smallest if not the smallest fully working synthesizers every created.

This particular unit is in perfect working condition. There is a little dent in the metal on the underside, but otherwise it's in great shape. (Yes, metal. Not plastic like the VL-1.)

There is an excellent video of the VL-10 here:

Not the best pics, but you don't see these often.

"This is one of the most desirable string and brass synths out there. When you hear how lush it sounds you will know why. The ensemble buttons really give the keyboard extra depth that others in the same field do not have.

Everything works great on this particular model. All sliders and buttons function as they should. As you can see the keys have yellowed nicely, which is very common with the 202's. The tolex on the case is a bit scraped up, but overall in excellent condition considering the age."

Moog Liberation SN 3115

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Moog Liberation – vintage analog synthesizer, complete, functionally "great to excellent"

The Liberation is virtually identical to the Moog Prodigy, and includes all the same waveforms and functions PLUS a 44 note keyboard, ring mod, polyphonic mode, noise, and auto-triggering S&H. The oscillator synch works fine and the Moog filter sounds great. The modulation switches and wheels on the neck work for volume, filter, glide, etc. The pressure sensor does not work, therefore the wheel for pressure sensitivity doesn’t do anything; turning on the pressure sensor simply turns on the selected function 100%, which is musically useful so not a problem. This is still completely usable, you just can’t get the “expressiveness”, and I think it’s an easy fix. Other than this I would describe it as functionally excellent with all keys playing in tune and triggering as they should.

This is a complete setup, including the power supply interface module and the extra-long cable. Ready to play and needs nothing.

The neck was purposely designed with the correct offset for it to fit in almost any keyboard stand, so aside from playing it as a keytar it’s also an easy way to add a 44 note CV/trigger keyboard to your rig!

Cosmetically it’s very nice but vintage; the white finish has crazing, small chips, and imperfections as shown in the photos, but overall this Liberation shows very nice for a vintage keytar. No cracks, no damage, the keys are all perfectly straight, smooth and perfectly functioning. No signs of it ever being dropped, abused, no key misalignment, etc. The sliders and knobs all move smoothly and work fine, but they could use a cleaning because when you look inside each slider you can see some some dirt and debris. This doesn’t affect the function at all, but it’s something I would do if I were keeping it.

This one is interesting and different from most other Liberations that I’ve seen because it has the following FACTORY installed differences: a pitch bend wheel instead of a ribbon controller (I prefer the wheel over a ribbon); an extra ON/OFF switch on the neck to for sending CV/trigger to an external synthesizer (this is slick if you’re using this to control other gear on stage); there are two 1/4'’ inputs on side of the synth. These outputs are not standard and I don’t see them on most Liberations on the internet, but I believe they are a factory mod. I believe they’re inputs to modulate volume and filter using a foot pedal controller. I wasn’t able to fully test them because I don’t have the correct pedals – probably needs either a variable resistance pedal, or possibly a variable voltage pedal (like a Moog 1120 pedal). An ordinary on/off pedal does cause changes – it worked to switch the volume on/off from one of the ports, so I believe that input controls the volume and the other one controls the filter."

The Electronic Peasant's SynthBend Analogue Synthesizer Controller

via The Electronic Peasant

"When The Peasant started to plan the building of the SynthBend Controller, a comprehensive and innovative design was envisaged. The intent was to create an extremely versatile analogue synthesizer controller for driving the SynthCase System.

A classic control-voltage type keyboard and an Appendage ribbon controller would be the heart of the project, with many added features. A large quantity and variety of manual CV modulation controls, such as joysticks, potentiometers, and pressure sensors would also be included. The design would be rounded out with some manual triggers/gates and switches. Hopefully the comprehensive design of the SynthBend Controller will provide an exceptional playing experience.

The first step in the design of this project was to decide on the basic module layout and chassis configuration. A number of salvaged plastic cases with hinged lids, as shown below, were chosen to house the controls and electronics."

Korg Monopoly Arpeggiator quick patch

"One of the reasons I like the Monopoly is the kinda nerdy way korg did with it. The four VCOs are extremely exploited, either working as a poly synth with 1 VCO per-voice or a monosynth with 4 VCOs. Each VCO is still individually tunable in poly mode so each key press can kinda take a different sound!!. Truly flexible synth.

The one I got here has a MIDI mod on the back."
