Ming Mecca and hexinverter Mutant Drums

Published on Jul 18, 2014 hexinverterDOTnet

"Here I jam out on the Special Stage Systems Ming Mecca. The Ming Mecca is a voltage controlled video game console designed by Jordan Bartee. I am fortunate to have one of the first production units in my hands!

Here I use it along with the hexinverter Mutant Hihats, Clap and Bassdrum. These modules compliment eachother really well!

The Hihats and Bassdrum are available currently as eurorack format modules from retailers around the globe as well as in PCB form as a DIY project you can build.

Special Stage Systems is taking preorders for the World and Control Core for the Ming Mecca system. Check it out here! http://www.specialstagesystems.com/"

This is the first Special Stage Systems post.

Doug Lynner Serge Performance Patch Preview for Robotspeak Performance

"With concerts coming up I haven't had time for a thoughtful Patch of The Week but for fun here is a closeup view of my performance instrument for my show tomorrow at Robotspeak's Church of The Super Serge In San Francisco. I will be performing on Serge and Cyndustries modules. The show starts at 3pm."

Video description:

"I'm tight on time preparing for concerts so here is a closeup view of a performance patch on my machines. See you at Robotspeak in San Francisco 7/19/14!

Though this is illustrated on a Serge the concepts apply to many modular synthesizers. Let me know how you apply this on your modular synthesizer.

KORG DW-8000 & SIX-TRAK SONG

Published on Dec 31, 2013 BOB ''T'' --------------

Vangelis Blade Runner synth cover CS-80 VS MOOG SLIM PHATTY

Published on Jul 12, 2013 BOB ''T'' --------------

"With a Moog Slim Phatty I recreate (emulate) the sound of the Yamaha CS-80. (Monophonic). The Yamaha SY-77 do the metallic harp sound. Roland MKS-7 (raw noise) plug into the Moog Slim Phatty (unfortunately the SP doesn't have a noise source) does the rocket noise sound. Hollow Sun VP330 does the string sound. These are all my custom preset sound. I had a MKS-80 rev 5 synthesizer and did the same sound with it was really good but not as good as with the Moog. That synth is very versatile and the sound quality is incredible but you need to plug a noise source and a cv control for more flexibility. Analog synth and FM is a wonderful duo. More video are coming. I also have a Korg Monotron modified that I can plug into the SP for a third oscillator craziness. If you like you can check out our new album (New age electro 80's style) Google : ITUNE, AMAZON OR CD BABY : EIOS ConquĂȘte Du Nord. Thanks for watching ! Cover of that song"

SIX-TRAK Sequential Circuits 6 OSC MONSTER

Uploaded on Jun 17, 2011 BOB ''T'' --------------

"Six-Trak Demo Please note : At it's best when passing it thru the FX of your choice ! Sequential Circuits Six-trak 6 oscillator demo in monophonic mode. Filter env is legato. This video is only scratching the surface because those oscillators are actually 6 full sound that you can stack. It like having a monosynth with 6 lfo's, 6 amplitude section's, 6 filter section's and so on. This demo is 100% six-trak with no fx. I control every parameter from the fabulous Novation X-Station. All in midi cc standard from 00 to 35. STAY TUNE for probably the only Korg Monotron demo played like a real synth with a real keyboard and a full acces to real time controls using midi CC from my Novation and silent way. Also Superb monophonic solo sounds from my Roland JX-8P rarely seen on Youtube! Have you ever heard the Novation X-Station internal sounds ? I'll show you couple of my own preset. What about this full of Grease Oberheim Matrix-6R... You can't contain yourself thinking of an Arturia Minimoog V with the filter section at off and substituted by a real Moog filter : in midi with the Slim Phatty. Thanks for watching.

Answers To Questions 2: Juno-106 Panel Board Installation Secrets

Whether it's a Kiwi-106, an original metal panel or one with a SynthGraphics overlay, the tricks and techniques remain the same. This video details my approach in and covers all the relevant bases as I demonstrate the process."

"I wrote it around '84 or '85 as a demo for my music editor called
'Synth'. I was going to University of Waterloo at the time and just
gave it to a friend of mine... didn't even bother to put my name on
the thing. Anyway it soon started cropping up all over the place.
I never made any sequels with music, although there was something with
annoying sound effects done in the same style as Synth Sample that I
posted in the beginning of 1994. So any music you see that looks like
a sequel or has graphics added was done by someone else.
Anyway the computer bust of 85/86(?) hit and Synth was never marketed.
I had been negotiating with a software company but they went out of
business. By that time I was working on a new version of Synth that
was a sequencer program for Midi instruments (called MSS), and had
joined my first band. I've been in a couple other bands since then,
the last one was called SugarPush and we came close to getting signed
(but then broke up [...]). So I guess you can credit that little
program with launching my musical career..." (GF)

DSM01 Curtis Filter Demo (RRich)

"A prototype of the first analog synth module offered by Dave Smith Instruments, a Low Pass Filter with additional VCA, based on the Curtis chip used in the Prophet08, Prophet12 and other DSI synths. It features VC Resonance, a switch for 12/24dB/Octave and a switch for Boost to drive the filter harder.

This demo is just a simple arpeggio, going through various knob positions with and without some echo, just to show a range of sounds."

"This circuit takes two input signals and divides them down by /2, /4, /8 & /16. It also ring modulates the two signals and all of their divisions (similar to the ring mods in the Korg MS-20 and ARP Odyssey). All of these signals can then be mixed to create the output waveform. If this is done at audio rates the output is very thick and full of shifting harmonics. If it is done at LFO rates, the output is a complex pattern that can be used as a CV source.

To sum up, it is a dual sub-oscillator, harmonic divider, harmonic ring-modulator and pattern generator.

The best effect at audio rates is to get signals from 2 VCOs that are beating – running at almost the same frequency…but not quite. This gives a continuously shifting and active sound. As the input signals are divided down to /16, it is best to run the VCOs at higher frequencies than usual to be able to exploit all the available divisions.

To use as a pattern generator, connect two gate/trigger/LFO signals to the inputs (or just one – it will still work, but 2 is more interesting). Connect the output to a VCO or VCF and adjust the pots to find patterns that will be somewhat unpredictable but quite fun to use."
