New Corsynth C106 Dual Loopable VC AD Envelope & More

You might remember the previous demos posted here, here and here.  Above is a new playlist and the details via Corsynth:

"The C106 Dual Loopable VC AD Envelope & more it’s a really versatile module. It’s not only a Dual Voltage Controlled Attack / Decay envelope, it’s also a dual VC LFO, an audio generator, a complex contour generator, a dual pulse delay, a voltage controlled AD envelope with adjustable delay and more….

The core of this module are two loopable voltage controlled Attack / Decay envelopes that can be interconnected in different ways to create different functions.

Connection modes:

Two independent Attack / Decay envelopes ( single shot or looping )
Envelope A triggers the Envelope B after reach the end of the Attack phase
Envelope A triggers the Envelope B after reach the end of the Decay phase
Envelope B triggers the Envelope A after reach the end of the Decay phase
Envelope A triggers the Envelope B after reach the end of the Attack phase and Envelope B triggers Envelope A after reach the end of the Decay phase
Envelope A triggers the Envelope B after reach the end of the Decay phase and Envelope B triggers Envelope A after reach the end of the Decay phase

Special
Corsynth C106 Dual Loopable VC AD Envelope & More
Each envelope has four manual controls, Attack/Decay time and Attack/Decay shape, continuously variable from exponential to logarithmic. The A/D times can be voltage controlled using the three available modulation inputs, one for the Attack time, one for the Decay time and one that controls the Attack and Decay times simultaneously.

Attack / Decay times without voltage control:

Exponential Attack : from 0.5 ms to 7.5 s
Logarithmic Attack : from 5.5 ms to 68 s
Exponential Decay : from 4 ms to 10 s
Logarithmic Decay : from 37 ms to 94 s
Each envelope has an envelope output (0 to 5V), a bipolar output ( +/-5V ), an END pulse output (outputs a short pulse every time the envelope reach the end of the Decay stage) and a gate/trigger input.

There are also another two common outputs with special functions :

A+B output: outputs the addition of the Envelope A and Envelope B. This function is really useful to create complex envelopes, delayed envelopes …
A-B output: outputs the subtraction of the Envelope A and Envelope B. Using this output you can get inverted envelopes, complex waveforms…
This module is built using high quality electronic components, Switchcraft jacks, NKK switches, Cosmo knobs (the same used in the Moog Modulars) , black anodized aluminium front panel…."

"This is a very solid TB 303 in great working condition. With normal wear and tear. see pics. It has a sequentix midi system added so you can link right up to most DAWs.
MIDIBass 303 Mark II if you go to the sequentix web site they have tons of info.

The MIDIBass 303 is the ultimate MIDI retrofit for the classic Roland TB-303.

As you'd expect, MIDIBass allows the 303 synth section to be controlled by any MIDI keyboard or sequencer.
And now the Mark II version adds MIDI control over filter cutoff.

More significantly, MIDIBass transmits the notes from the 303's internal sequencer via MIDI - giving you the ability to capture the unique quality of patterns created through the TB user-interface.
This is ideal for further editing or chaining patterns on a PC or hardware sequencer, pattern backup, or doubling-up the 303 sound with another synth."

Rare Italian ELEX Vintage Analog Synthesizer SN 173 62

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note this is the first ELEX post on MATRIXSYNTH.

"This 1970s analog synthesizer is so rare that I can find absolutely zero mention of it anywhere on the internet (though if you do find something, please let me know!). I have come across a couple of references to other Elex branded synths online, but those appear to be fairly standard Italian string-synths along the lines of Hohner/Logan etc.

While the synth for sale here would also likely be classified as a string synth, it is not like any other I have owned or heard. The bass cello sound alone justifies owning this. It is obviously not the most versatile of synths, but what it does it does extremely well. With the added bonus that, due to its extreme rarity, you can be pretty sure you are one of the very few people in the world with access to precisely these sounds.

I'm about to relocate to the US, and considering that this is the heaviest synth I've ever lifted in my life (almost 27kg) it unfortunately has to go. I've used it on several recordings and it will be missed, but I cannot justify the cost of dragging this half way round the world along with all the other junk I own.

I brought this synth over from Italy and it still has an Italian plug on it. A simple and cheap travel adapter will fix that.

There obviously was once a lid, but it was already missing when I bought the synth. I have removed the slider switches so they don't get damaged in transit, but these will be included in the parcel along with the synth (it's a while since I removed them though, so I cannot be 100% sure all of them are there, but certainly most are). Other than that, see photos for various marks and defects. No problems with the sound at all."

Update: here's the Hohner version. via Ryan on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge.

Update2: some info via Micke on VSE (via Lorne on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge as well): "The keyboard you're describing is a basic electronic piano built in Italy by ELEX (Elettronica Excelsior for Hohner International* Belgium & UK. It was preceeded by a similar model called the HI piano I (K-1). Afaik, the original model appeared in '74 or '75 and the II about '77.

Elex were also releasing these ep's as well as the K-2 stringvox, K-3 Jazz-rock organ/piano and the K-4 stringer under their own brand name.

Around 1979 or thereabouts ELEX brought out new versions of some of their older keyboards like the Hohner International Globetrotter ep and Hohner Int. stringvox 3/XL (the same instrument is ocassionally found with the name "String-thing"), which were updated versions (all-black in color) of the Hohner K-1 ep and K-4 stringer respectively.

Hope this helps

'Anushri is a monosynth like no other. In addition to its analog VCO/VCF/VCA and digital modulation sources, it includes a fun and immediate note sequencer with step-by-step recording, and a gritty 8-bit drum machine with a truly original control interface.'

'Anushri’s audio generation and processing chain is analog. The main sound source is a VCO with sawtooth and pulse-width waveforms, coupled with a sub-oscillator – a simple formula that made the success of the Roland SH-101 and MC-202. Following the VCO comes a multimode VCF, whose 12dB/octave slope provides a refreshing change from the rounder and cleaner 24dB/octave Moog-style filters. The band-pass and high-pass modes provide additional filtering flavors. Anushri’s secret weapon of sonic destruction is a switchable fuzz circuit inserted between the VCF and VCA – which bring a heavy dose of nasty distortion.'"

Roland TR-8 AIRA Firmware Update 1.1: New Features, Review & Instructions (1440p)

Published on Jul 29, 2014 massivebeatzz

Roland Aira's on eBay

"So Roland finally released its first firmware update for the TR-8 (and the rest of the AIRA product line) adding many awaited features to the highly praised TR-808/909 drum machine emulator.
What's new in update version 1.1 you ask? Quite frankly, A LOT!

••HOTTEST NEW FEATURES :
-Manage your kit and pattern library with easy backup & restore over USB
-Edit both A and B parts without stopping the sequencer
-Lock the content of a pattern so you experiment with it without changing
-Scatter will enable for one cycle and then automatically disengage

••MIDI MATURES AT LAST:
-MIDI velocity is variable by the accent setting
-Local On/Off and MIDI Controller modes determine how MIDI data is sent and received
-Select kits using MIDI control change messages.
-Scatter On/Off, Type and Depth can be controlled via MIDI control change
-Record patterns in real-time from external MIDI devices.
-Disable sending of all MIDI messages
-Toggle whether or not TR-8 responds to PLAY/STOP messages

••WHAT ELSE?
-Customize kits by adjusting the gain of each instrument to suit your individual style
-Rolls are now easier to engage, offer more control, and sound better overall
-Alternate unlatched trigger mode engages only while “On” button is held down (really?)
-Get back in the groove by instantly starting a pattern from the top

••OMISSIONS?
There's two main ones in my book:
-For once being able to copy part A over to part B (or vice versa) of a Pattern is one of the most popular requests I found listening to forum discussions (and my personal #1). Indeed, making modifications of something that already works by copying & tweaking the copy is just second nature to most of us.
-Second, being able to change the sampling rate of the audio interface part (via USB) to something other than 96khz, such as 48khz and 44.1khz is needed. Building multiple (up to 14) audio tracks from the TR-8's streams will weigh in heavily on HD space and bus bandwith. And frankly, sometimes an existing project is already running at a lower sampling rate, so down sampling would occur anyways. Reduced latency might be another benefit of it!
Though it's wonderful to know that the internal SR is 96khz (big thumbs up for that) it's time to allow some flexibility in DAW mode!

••Conclusion?
Great to see that ROLAND is indeed taking user requests to heart, and - so far - not making it a "you bought it - we're done now" kind of product (abandonware). Lots of new features and fixes, so current owners see their investments protected, and potential buyers will get a cutting edge device when they buy! Way to go.

[Be sure to watch in 1440p or 1080p to enjoy the crystal clear rendered text and images we put up for ya!]

Published on Jul 28, 2014 Geert Bevin

"This is the same performance as in my other video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V9lI... [posted here], but without the per-note pitch bend and per-note pressure expression. You just hear the notes with velocity as you would from a regular MIDI keyboard. Some parts are of course not entirely correct anymore since the glissandos are gone. I considered editing the MIDI data, but decided to keep it a one-to-one translation instead.

I hope this allows you to evaluate how new expressive controllers are able to breathe life into a performance."
