Laurentide SynthWorks 12 (modified moog werkstatt)

Published on Aug 14, 2014 Laurentide SynthWorks

"ATTENTION: Ear Piercing Frequencies Contained Within! Intended for Demo Purposes ONLY!

Just finished up modding the Werkstatt. Kept the mods fairly simple, with exception to the Gate IN (trace cutting and op amp adding). Also, the audio IN takes advantage of the jumper between the VCO and VCF. I removed the jumper and wired the swithed jack between it. When a jack is inserted, the VCO is silenced. For me that was ideal as the VCO is pumped into the VCF fairly hot. This way send the VCO into an attenuator and then back in (along with some other VCO's).

Drop me a line if you have a werkstatt you'd like modded @ laurentidesynthworks@gmail.com"

Radikal Technologies Accelerator Sound Demos by MIDERA

Published on Aug 14, 2014 MIDERA

"I just received the Accelerator last night. A huge thanks to Radikal
Technologies! This thing is amazing!

Note: I haven't spent much time with it yet, but I wanted to get
SOMETHING up showcasing this synth. I fear my demo will not do it
justice. I think I recorded the levels too quietly and I don't
particularly care for what I was actually playing, but... I think we
could use a few more demos of this thing!"

Radikal Technologies Accelerator sound demo #2 (24db LP filter)

Published on Aug 14, 2014 MIDERA

"Warning: There is some clipping (my fault) and some rather loud high-pitch frequencies. Be careful when listening to this!!!!!!!!

Here is a quick (but I suppose kinda long) demo of the 12db LP filter in the Accelerator. You can also see the matrix editing which is quite simple to use. I created a simple/stupid bassline for tweaking. I made a 32-step sequence and later changed the pattern length and switched it to trigger randomly. I also routed the sounds through the second filter at one point, but that should be visible from the screen."

Radikal Technologies Accelerator sound demo #3

Published on Aug 15, 2014 MIDERA

"Created this patch for the RT Accelerator today. This uses all 3
oscillators and both filters, as well as some LFOs for tuning of the
separate oscillators. Hope you enjoy :)"

Radikal Technologies Accelerator sound demo #4 (random patch generator)

Published on Aug 19, 2014 MIDERA

"Basically, I just used the random patch generator to create patches and played through them. I started with pads, then went to bass, then to leads and arps. On the accelerator, you can selectively choose what TYPE of patch you'd like to create (so if I press 'pad' when the 'random' button is highlighted, I will get a pad sound).

Enjoy, I apologize for some clipping here, the patches sometimes are louder than expected!

Pads: 0:00
Bass: 6:50
Leads: 12:52
My favorite patch: 16:35"

Radikal Technologies sound demo #5 (Sequencing)

Published on Aug 24, 2014 MIDERA

"Just wanted to show that you can sequence multiple parts with the
Accelerator's internal step sequencer. If you have the expansions you
can have 1 sequencerline (up to 32 steps) per part (up to 8 parts).
It's fairly simple to navigate."

Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2, Cwejman, Mutable eurorack demo

Published on Aug 14, 2014 bigcitymusic

"Here is a patch demonstrating the DSI Pro 2 interfacing with a eurorack modular synthesizer containing Cwejman RG-6 and Mutable Instruments Braids modules.

* 4 tracks of the Pro 2 sequencer have been programmed.
* DSI Pro 2 CV Gate Out is going into the Trigger input of Braids.
* Track 1 of the Pro 2’s multi track sequencer is assigned within the modulation matrix to CV 1 OUT, which is going into the 1v/oct input of the Braids.
* Track 2, 3 and 4 of the multi-track sequencer are assigned within the Pro 2’s modulation matrix to CV 2 OUT, which is running into the Braids FM input, set to meta mode.
* The Cwejman RG-6 high probability out random CV is routed to the CV 1 IN of the Pro 2, which is assigned to Sequencer tracks 2, 3 and 4 in the modulation matrix to modulate step values.
* The Modulation Wheel has been set to CV 3 OUT in the modulation matrix and is routed to the braids Timbre parameter.
* The Pitch Wheel has been set to CV 4 OUT in the modulation matrix and is routed to the Braids Color parameter.

"For sale here is a vintage Roland TR-808. Everything is fully functional and ready to go. Each knob working, all outputs are working, and each pattern step working, no scratchy pots. Cosmetically it is in excellent shape, looks very nice for its age. Some very light scruffs on the top front but hard to even see them unless you look at an angle in light. Serviced in the past year, everything tuned up & cleaned so you know its good to go for a long while. Battery compartment is clean and will save patterns after powerdown. See pictures below. Don't miss out on this classic drum machine, HUGE KICK, Snappy Snare & that classic clap & hihats!"

Erica Synths 8channel Sequential Switch Techno jam

Published on Aug 14, 2014 EricaSynths

"Demo by Erica Synths teamrider $KODEK. Erica Synths 8 channel SEQUENTIAL SWITCH, allows you to sequence up to eight sound sources in advanced ways or route one sound source sequentially to eight different sound modifiers – VCFs, waveshapers, VCAs, etc. It has unique control interface that allows you to pause, skip and merge steps, set sequence length, but what really sets it apart from other sequential switches is Gate output – when used with ADSR and VCA, you get really powerful sequencer with real time control over each sound source in the sequence. Use Sequential Switch with random clock source and you get a heart of insane random, self-generating patches!

"Soquelle's first single "Tense" blending smooth vocals with crunchy Sp1200 beats, Prophet VS & SH101

Listen to Soquelle's first single 'Tense', melding low-end club, mid-end smooth & hi-end glitch

The Story
The inspiration for this track is to stop and examine the state of being "tense". To step back for a second from all the pressures around you, the crushing industrial landscapes that may swallow us all, & find that moment of tranquil light lying idle on the other side.

The Technical Aspects
It took us two months in our home studio to craft a unique sound that could capitulate these visions, using old '80s analog equipment, a couple EMU SP-1200's, Sequential Circuits Prophet VS, Roland SH101, a soprano saxophone & unknown DIY methods that we'll never be able to repeat again.

Sequential Prophet 5 rev2

via this auction

"There are 3 distinct Prophet 5's, the rev 1, rev 2 and rev 3. To be honest I have never seen (or even met someone who has seen) a rev 1....so if you want a Prophet the choice is pretty much between the rev2 and rev3. The major difference between the rev2 and the rev3 is that the rev2 uses SSM chips and a lot more discrete components and the rev3 uses Curtis chips. The rev2 is the the better sounding of the two with a more organic sound, though back in the day the rev3 was much more reliable....so bands tended to use rev2's for recording and rev3's for touring.

The rev2 reliability issues were primarily down to tuning, this was down to a transformer that got very hot (have a look at the size of the heatsink!)...i.e. thermal drift and the fact that the voltage control DACs for the oscillators were made with discrete resistors. Nothing actually wrong with building DACs with discrete resistors except that you need to use very precise and matched resistors....which weren't readily available in the 80's. These days ridiculously precise "ppm" (part per million) resistors are available for not too scary money. So the internals circuitry has been changed to incorporate the better resistors (and a few other more modern components) and a modern over-rated toroidal transformer to ensure that the tuning and reliability is as good, probably better than any rev3.

The rev2 is very rare, with only 200 having ever been made and is an incredibly beautiful sounding machine. This version is in very good condition, apart from a dint or two on the woodwork and pretty bad silk screening on the mod panel. I am at the moment considering building a totally new hardwood cabinet, re-screening the mod panel and fitting Kenton MIDI...this will however add well over £1000 to the price so I thought I'd put it up for sale as is....as I'm a bit buzy at the moment and someone could grab a bargain.

"The ultimate orchestra sound app for sophisticated musicians, directed by Kurt Ader, designed as professional sound module for your iPad by connecting an external MIDI keyboard, using the Apple USB camera adapter or another adapter supported by Apple.¹

This app supports Apple's "Inter-App Audio" System (requires iOS 7 or higher) and the "JACK Audio Connection Kit" (up to iOS 6.1.3) for audio & MIDI connections from/to other audio apps!

iSymphonic Orchestra was designed with the goal to deliver you superb, extremely realistic and stunning orchestra sounds, instantly with the first key being pressed by you on your MIDI keyboard. Just select a sound and you are ready for your live performance or for a boost of creativity while composing new songs. The sounds used in this app were explicitly recorded to fulfill these requirements and involved several months of recording and post processing under supervision of Kurt Ader and included a variety of innovative, new recording techniques. So far these sounds were only available to very few, famous movie composers. Now they are finally available for the first time to everybody. The supreme quality of these sounds, combined with the unique way they were recorded and assembled, gives us confidence that you haven't heard anything comparable as of to date, even not on Mac or PC.

Integrating & Syncing KORG Volcas with an iPad

More Volca Arps Published on Aug 13, 2014

"I learned some things from the last video. The most important was: how to get the Beats synced! The trick is that both Volcas have to be playing. In this case, the Volca Bass is getting its notes from the iPad arpeggiator, but to send the correct sync signal to the Beats, it needs to be playing. Won't this interfere with your live arp? Not if you clear out the sequence first (function + 16).

Boring details: Volca Bass is getting MIDI clock and notes from Yamaha Synth Arp & Drum Pad, running on the iPad 2. Volca Beats is taking its timing information from the Bass. Both channels of audio are also being processed by the iPad. The right channel, Bass, is going through AUFX:Dub for stereo delay. The left channel, Beats, is going through Audio Mastering for stereo widening and a bit of equalizing (which you can see during the performance; I'm lifting the snare a bit). The Novation Bass Station II on the right is a delicious analogue synth, but this morning I'm just using it as a MIDI controller for the Yamaha app. Audio is coming into the iPad via a Behringer UCA222. The iPad's MIDI interface is the Xmidi Tab from E-mu. (This is a nice USB/MIDI interface, by the way: unlike the super-cheap ones, it doesn't introduce noise into your audio signal.) It and the Behringer audio interface are both plugged into a powered USB hub, which is what you see plugged into the iPad via the Camera Connection Kit (CCK). The whole thing is being filmed with an iPod Touch, which is getting its audio from a similar Behringer unit.

One more technical note: the Volca Bass has three oscillators, but I'm using just one of them here. Less isn't always more, but it can be refreshing, and there's something sinewy about the single osc that brings it closer to the Roland sound that the two Volca cases are obviously hoping to remind you of."

Volcas and StepPolyArp: Proof of Concept

Published on Aug 12, 2014 David Wilson-Okamura

"This is a proof of concept, not a finished song. There are three main components: an iPad 2 running Laurent Colson's marvelous arpeggiator app StepPolyArp, a Korg Volca Beats (for drums), and a Korg Volca Bass, which is getting notes from the arpeggiator."
