"People often ask me, "Tom, what was the favorite one of your synthesizers from before?" And my answer is always, " The Two Voice" ~Tom Oberheim

Own a VERY RARE piece of synthesizer history! One of the 1st synths capable of playing more that one note at a time, and expandable to play up to 8!

In 1974 Tom Oberheim developed the SEM, the Synthesizer Expansion Module, It was designed to be a voice expansion for the MiniMoog. Later that year he put 2 SEM's together, and added Keys, and Oberheims 1st complete synthesizer was born! THIS IS SERIAL #0081 It also includes the Mini Sequencer expansion! I have spent a lot of money having this painstakingly professionally restored, its 100% functional there are no dirty pots, sticky keys, all parameter changes are smooth and instant, it is perfectly tuned, and stays in tune. I have all the manuals, schematics for each and every component, and a detailed parts list. Besides a couple dings on the built in flight case, it is in near perfect condition, inside and out! And i think the dings in the case can be repaired cheap. for something 40 years and 10 months old, i honestly don't think you could even hope to get something in better condition unless it was never opened or used, and even then a lot of internal components would need to be replaced. Also on the rear there are `some inputs and outputs, to control voice expansions among other things, but also a added feature has been built into this one, output 1, and 2. so you can sent each voice to wherever you want. this was also installed professionally, and uses unused ports, so not only does it work perfectly, it looks professional as well, and without doing anything to damage or take away value from this historic synth! With the added Mini Sequencer you can use 1 voice solely for the sequencer, while you play the other, or vise versa, or send them both to the sequencer, or one to the famous oberheim sample and hold feature!"

Roland Juno-60 Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer | HQ AUDIO DEMO | CUSTOM PATCHES

"What sounds can you make with a Roland Juno-60 polyphonic analog synthesizer?

Here is a collection of custom patches that I programmed into my Roland Juno-60. The demo includes basses, strings, pads, arpeggios, and more. I recorded these patches dry into Ableton Live, and then used Ableton's Large Space Chorus reverb preset to add some ambiance. (Ableton's reverb sounds great on synths.) No other processing was done. All parts were played by myself; no DCB-MIDI conversion was used."

Super Rare Clear Gleeman Pentaphonic Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Here's something you don't see every day.  Although the description states anywhere between 30 and 50 were made, previous accounts state 50 solid black and only 20 clear were made.

"This is a genuine Gleeman Pentaphonic clear synthesizer. I acquired this in 1986 from the original owner. It has spent most of the last 28 years in its case. I did not gig with it. Its been in a smoke free environment. The clear synth case as well as the keys are in excellent condition with no cracks or deep scratches. Everything works. I’ve checked every switch and knob and all are working.

It has been repaired twice. Once in 2008. The red light would come on but no sound. A guy that has experience working with high-end vintage synths repaired it. He said most of its problems were there because it hadn’t been used in almost 2 decades. After playing it and using it for recording I put it back in the case for 6 more years. In 2014 I again got it out and it would power up but I was not able to hear my patches. Again I sent it to the same repairman and again it had some minor issues from not being used for 6 more years plus maybe a little user error. It is now in 100% working order.

For those that don’t know…this is an extremely rare synth. Estimates vary but maybe as few as 30 and maybe as many as 50 of these were made [see above]. The original flight case is included. It is missing a handle and also its interior foam. I’ve been using cloth towels inside the case for padding. The flight case does have an aged look. It will come with a reprint of the original manual as well as a couple of Gleeman advertisements. It will ship FedEx well packed."

"Rare Roland SH-3 (NOT the 3A!) vintage analog synth. The SH-3 is said to have the Moog ladder filter later changed with the SH-3A. Good working order, only issue I can find is when selecting 8' octave AND saw waveform you get a slightly slightly tone, like there's LFO and vibrato present. All other octaves and waveform settings work well, even the 2 other settings at 8'. Great sounding synth - very creamy and analog. Priced to sell!"

Another obscure, interesting bit of synthesizer history. I don't believe one has been featured on MATRIXSYNTH before. There was an Ensoniq EPS Output Expander for the original EPS recently listed here.  This one is for the EPS 16+.

Roland SH 101 Vintage Classic Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Comes with modulation grip. A major influence to house and acid house music Roland SH-101 is a synthesizer from the early 1980s, manufactured by Roland. It is a small, 32 key, monophonic analog synthesizer. It features one oscillator with 3 simultaneous waveforms, an 'octave-divided' square sub-oscillator, triangle and square/pwm waveform. It has a low-pass filter/VCFcapable of self oscillation. The self oscillation filter can be used to make bassdrum sounds. The controls are simple to use as there is a slider or switch available for every single parameter, and there is an external trigger input to control the speed of the sequencer or the arpeggiator. The LFO is very fast and can be used to make fast arpeggios with decay down to zero volume, without retriggering the ADSR. External control is achieved using CV/Gate and not MIDI. The SH-101 was produced in three colors: gray, blue, and red."

Hello ! My name is Frederic Gerchambeau. I have made this movie and this music. The music has been made using an analog modular synthesizer including an A-115, an A-152 and a Maths.
A simple sequence is created with an A-115 and then sent into an A-152 and a Maths. So, four weird sequences are created and then sent towards four oscillators.

Happy Birthday Keith Emerson!

Today is Keith Emerson's birthday!

He, along with Wendy Carlos, are two of the most important musicians in the world of synthesizers. They are both credited with introducing the use of synthesizers in mainstream music. Wendy brought synthesizers to classical music, and Keith brought synthesizers to band based Rock 'n' Roll. They were the first to bring synthesizers from the realm of the experimental, musique concrete, and educational applications to the main stream.

Keith Emerson's Moog modular is iconic. Not only does Keith still perform with it, but it inspired Moog Music to re-issue the awe inspiring monolith.

Thank you Keith, and Happy Birthday!!!

Left: Keith in St. Petersburg, Russia 2008 via wikipedia.

Below: Keith back in the day via @moogfest.

via wikipedia: "Emerson first heard a Moog when a record shop owner played Switched-On Bach for him. Emerson said: 'My God that's incredible, what is that played on?' The owner then showed him the album cover. So I said, 'What is that?' And he said, 'That's the Moog synthesizer.' My first impression was that it looked a bit like electronic skiffle.'[8]

Without one of his own, Emerson borrowed Mike Vickers' Moog for an upcoming The Nice concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London with the Royal Philharmonic. Mike helped patch the Moog and the concert was a great success. Emerson's performance of Also sprach Zarathustra from the recently released 2001: A Space Odyssey was a show stopper. Emerson: 'I thought this was great. I've got to have one of these.'[8]

With ELP's record deal with Atlantic came funds to buy the Moog. Keith: 'It cost a lot of money and it arrived and I excitedly got it out of the box stuck it on the table and thought, 'Wow That's Great! a Moog synthesizer [pause] How do you switch it on?...There were all these leads and stuff, there was no instruction manual.' Mike Vickers came through by patching it to produce six sounds and those six sounds became the foundation of ELP's sound.[8]

In 1969, Emerson incorporated the Moog modular synthesiser into his battery of keyboards. While other artists such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones had used the Moog in studio recordings, Emerson was the first artist to tour with one. Emerson's use of the Moog was so important to the development of new models that he was given prototypes, such as the Constellation he took on one tour[8] and the Apollo, which had its debut on the opening track of Brain Salad Surgery, 'Jerusalem.'"

"galackticktock is a new project by michl britsch. it is mainly focusing on synthesizer improvisation. EP1 has an overall calm and serene character and is featuring 3 tracks entirely performed on the Arturia Microbrute Analog synth. As it is a monophonic instrument the challenge here was to let it sound polyphonic without using any overdubs and recording each piece in just one take. these conditions were created by a certain routing, splitting the original on four separate channels, each with a different effect pedal and before that being delayed by 0,4,6 and 10 seconds (with no repetitions though to make sure the performer has to keep on playing)."

"Classic 80's sampler retro fitted with HxC floppy emulator with pretty much all the factory discs plus another 50 odd user discs on a micro sd card, must be well over a hundred in total, this makes this sampler very usable as creating your own samples can be a pain with the mirage os. Still has its original functioning floppy drive and about 30 disks some work some don't, but their all pretty much duplicated on the sd card. Sounds great never mind the fact that its only 8 bit, most of the factory sounds are taken straight from converted Fairlight CMI samples and sound great, if your in an 80's covers band this is the one to have.

I have just checked through the SD card and there are 89 discs worth of sounds, half of which are factory the other half are user made that include mad sound effects vintage synths and one titled Moog strings which has to be one of the nicest string patches I've heard, also please bear in mind that the floppy emulator included in this sale would cost almost a hundred quid inc post then you have to set it up and this one will arrive up and running."

These are extremely underrated bits of kit, being a Sequential product it has that important Sequential trademark sound and features a very cool programmable arpegiator. I've also used it with a HxC floppy emulator which is great if your using it live (which I have been) as it saves lugging loads of floppies about, The HxC floppy emulator is for sale in my other auction but is attached to an Ensoniq Mirage."

Featuring Novation's award-winning Analogue Sound Modeling Technology to faithfully recreate the fluid sound of vintage analog equipment. 3 independent oscillators with variable noise source and 2 ring modulators per voice, combined with its 16-voice polyphony means that there are 36 oscillators, 24 ring modulators, and 12 noise sources available simultaneously. All can be combined in the Nova's mixer section to create fat, complex timbres. It offers 6-part multitimbrality; a 12, 18, 24dB-per-octave resonant filter configurable in low pass, high pass, and band pass modes, and with overdrive control; 42 simultaneous effects. Up to 6 arpeggiators can function simultaneously with 384 poly, mono, and user patterns. A 40-band vocoder can run simultaneously with the full synth engine with no loss of polyphony. A comprehensive modulation matrix offers 130 possible routings. 2 audio inputs allow signals to be routed through the synth engine (filters), effects, or both. They feature 20-bit A/D conversion, and are sensitivity selectable among mic, guitar, -10dB, and +4dB. 6 assignable polyphonic outputs each have 128 times oversampling Delta Sigma DACs."

" from my uncle's garage. never see light about 30 years

The Synthesizer 101 section is a fully self-contained analog mono-synth. It features a 37-note keyboard (with no performance controls, velocity or aftertouch), and lots of sliders to tweak. Its design is similar to the SH-series analog synths. Controls for the VCO, LFO, VCF lowpass/highpass filters, VCA with ADSR, Noise, and Portamento/Glide effects are all within hands reach. There's also a handy A-440Hz tuning oscillator

The Expander 102
its keyboard-less version of the 101, designed to stand upright and behind the main Synthesizer 101.The Expander is identical to the Synthesizer except that it replaces Portamento/Glide effects with a Sample-and-Hold feature for the LFO, the Noise gen. is replaced by a Ring Modulator, and the A-440 tuning osc. is replaced by weak/strong sync inputs and a mix-in jack. The Expander is an excellent way to add more oscillators and synth effects (the s&h and ring-mod) to a System 100. The oscillators can be synced if you have both modules. The 101 & 102 are already internally patched and ready to produce sounds, but that can be bypassed by external patching.

Sequencer 104.
This analog sequencer can be used to drive your System with a 12x2 step pattern sequencer. It features variable gate time, series or parallel modes, Start, Stop, Continue, and Step buttons."
