9090 Analog Drum Synthesizer (TR-909 Clone)

via this auction

"Selling this excellent 909 clone which has been professionally assembled by the designer himself (Trevor Page). This is a very complex custom build and you are unlikely to find a model as well assembled as this for sale.

The kick, snare drum, and toms are all analog while the other drum sounds are stored samples. The kick drum is the real standout of this machine - I tried to sample it with as many different settings as possible but I am now convinced that you can always get new sounds out of it. It is truly a chest-thumping beast. The module is in great condition with some light rack rash and a few hairline scratches, - nothing noticeable. The only technical defect I can find is that the level of the ride is very low in the master output - however the level is normal on its individual output so you can just use that. There will also be some noise when turning the pots (there is none when they are stable) but this can probably be fixed with some internal cleansing. Otherwise it is in great shape. I believe all sounds are velocity-sensitive. Currently set to receive MIDI on channel 2.

Here is the webpage for the original project http://www.9090project.co.uk (this model is the exact one pictured in the upper right except that I have replaced the red knobs with gray ones. I can include the original red ones if you like)"

Arp Tweaking 7: Korg Volca Keys

Published on Nov 27, 2014 DreamsOfWires

"Korg Volca Keys - all sounds, effects, pads, and cheap delay artifacts. A EHX Small Stone phaser and an Eventide Space reverb was also used. The random arpeggio was supplied by a Muteable Instruments Midipal.
This recording was thrown together without much prior thought (as usual), but I was thinking of Klaus Schulze's early music at the time."

New Kilpatrick Audio PHENOL - Patchable Desktop Analog Synthesizer

"Phenol is a new type of musical instrument from Kilpatrick Audio. Inspired by modular synthesizers, Phenol offers the creative potential, sound and hands-on experience of a modular synth, in a sleek, compact and affordable package. And best of all, Phenol is 100% compatible with modular systems because it uses the same voltages and banana connectors as the Kilpatrick Format modular system and other banana format modulars as well.

Shown above is the first prototype of Phenol. This is the first time Kilpatrick Audio has shown a prototype or announced a product prior to availability. But Phenol is not just another module. It's an entirely new instrument with expensive development challenges. In early December 2014 we will be launching a crowd-funding campaign where you can pre-order your own Phenol at a hefty discount. Please check back soon and help us make Phenol a reality!

Whether you already love modular synthesizers and want a smaller instrument for portability, or whether you've heard about modular synths and want to get your feet wet, Phenol offers an incredible experience at a great price!

Sneak Peak at some Specs (more to come)

Two analog VCOs
Two analog filters (low pass and high pass)

Meet Goom - New Open Source Desktop Synthesizer

"Goom is a digital music synthesiser based on an ultra-low-cost microcontroller. It broadly emulates the architecture of traditional analogue synthesisers, offers 16-voice polyphony and is fully multitimbral, and is controlled over a MIDI interface. The total cost of the basic components to make a fully-working synthesiser is just a couple of pounds; the (optional) ‘knobs and switches’ analogue front panel interface increases the total component cost by an order of magnitude or so, mostly accounted for by the potentiometers themselves.

Features

Sixteen-voice polyphonic
Fully multitimbral (different patch on each MIDI channel)
Analogue front panel patch set-up for MIDI channel 1
Patch set-up using MIDI control change messages for channels 2 to 16
Two oscillators per voice: sine, sawtooth, square, pulse and intermediate waveforms
Oscillators can be mixed or combined using frequency modulation or frequency modulation plus feedback
Three envelope generators per voice (one ADSR and one AD for amplitude, one ADSR for filter)
Low-pass filter for each voice with resonance control
Velocity scaling on amplitude and filter cutoff
Stereo output with pan and volume control for each patch
24-bit digital-to-analogue converter
Voice architecture

The tone generation structure for each voice is shown in the diagram below. It broadly follows the conventional layout of an analogue synthesiser, but adds frequency modulation modes to increase the range of tone colours available.

One point of interest is that each oscillator waveform is controlled by a pair of continuous parameters rather than, for example, a multi-position switch. The waveform is divided into four parts: a rising slope, a flat period, a falling slope, and a final flat period. Each slope takes the shape of half a cosine wave: the first from cos –π to cos 0 and the second from cos 0 to cos π.

The first control determines the ‘duty cycle’, the ratio between the time taken for the first slope plus the first flat period to that taken for the second slope plus second flat period. The second control determines the proportion of the total cycle occupied by the flat periods.

Together these two controls allow the generation of sine, square and pulse waveforms, and an approximation to a sawtooth waveform. Furthermore, a wide range of intermediate waveforms is also available. Very roughly speaking, the first control determines the presence of even harmonics (varying on a line from string to flute, if you will), while the second control determines the overall harmonic richness.

An upper limit is enforced on the slope of the waveform such that as the frequency increases the waveform approaches a sine wave. Since the waveform and its first derivative are continuous the result is in a worthwhile reduction in aliasing without having to resort to more computationally intensive techniques such as those that involve summing individual band-limited waveform fragments. A particular advantage is that much precomputation can be done at the control update rate to reduce the work that needs to be done at the output sample rate."

Emu Sp1200 Vintage Sampling Drum Machine with New Blue Screen

via this auction

"1) Emu Sp1200 drum machine in excellent condition, 100% functional. Front face is very clean. There is some wear around the edges/corners, sides/bottom & rear, but overall it's a nice example of an SP1200. I just had it recently serviced, including cleaning all the buttons/pads, replacing the LCD with a brand new one that is awesome blue with white letters, nice & bright/easy to read, had pots cleaned so there is no scratchiness when turning them, so this machine will serve you great for years to come. Don't waste time & money with an old unserviced SP1200, get one that's ready to make beats in your studio right away!

2) 40 discs of sounds (valued at $300) includes:
- Entire library of Original Sp1200 sounds, 21 discs total (see below for complete list)
- 10 discs with original Northstar productions sounds (see below for complete list)
- 2 sample discs from Jomox Xbase 888 & 999 sampled direct from the machine
- 4 sample discs of Roland TR909, TR808 & TR606, Acidlab Miami sampled direct from the machines
- 3 Sp12 drum machine samples direct from the machine

Many of these discs sound AMAZING & will be all you need to create dope beats.

3) 10 blank discs for using to create new sounds

4) This machine is a reissue but still a Model 7030 so it has the nicer SSM filters plus no power supply issues, it will run smooth and not get hot like the original grey version."

How to make some super knocking bumps with just 1 serge panel & a DAW.

Published on Nov 26, 2014 Dmitri SFC

"COA#1DEMO
ps:
A kick drum will trigger the NEG BUT in-order to clock the Stepped Function Gen & trigger the 1973 Envelope Gen, I had to boost the kick drum signal to the max, using an eq plug-in on the kick drum/trigger was an easy solution.
I once tried to trigger original NEG with kick drum & it didnt work but it works with the new CGS version. If you have DUSG you can use DUSG instead of NEG for this patch.
For every new sound recorded I moved the triggers around in the DAW. The acid line was a complex pattern varying from 16ths to 8th notes."
