Fade to Grey - remixed by Lackan

Published on Dec 20, 2014 Lackan110f

"One of the best pop songs ever written. I have tried to be true to the original, and only beef up the sonics. This is how I would have produced it back in 1980 - if I had not been in primary school…

The gear used is the ones you see in the video. No software or computer generated sounds. The real deal as it was in 1980. (Ok, I know both the 909, Linn. MonoPoly and some of the others was later than 1980...)

My intention has been to do a fair remake, with the original sonics but with more power. Hope you enjoy!"

"EDMT is a truly unique interactive visual music App designed by media artist Fader. It allows you to 'play' with your phone or tablet to generate mind expanding graphics and EDM inspired sounds. Fader is combining years of his experience as a visual and software designer into one amazing experience.

There are several 'scenes' to choose from where you can explore and discover exciting audio visual environments. Fader created this app for everyone who's interested in playing music visually. Unlike traditional instrument concepts, EDMT allows you to interact with the sound in a dynamic and playful way. The magic happens when the two senses – the sight and sound – are synchronized to create a seamless performance.

Key features:

Multiple interactive audio visual scenes
Real-time generative 3D graphics with dynamic sound
Interact using multi-gesture inputs and accelerometer
Audio reactive scenes
Output to TV or projector via HDMI...

If we reach the pledge goal of $33,000, everyone will have the opportunity of receiving the iOS version of EDMT App!"

Mutable Instruments Elements - Incidences/Resonances Patch

Mutable Instruments Elements - Incidences/Resonances Patch from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"First look at the Mutable Instruments "Elements" Modal Synthesis Oscillator. This patch was inspired by Bernard Parmegiani Incidences / Résonances piece on | De Natura Sonorum | INA-GRM | 1978.

To imitate nature and acoustic instruments, modal synthesis breaks down the creation of sounds into two steps:

1. Synthesizing a noisy and/or percussive excitation signal, which represents the raw energy transferred to the instrument by the musician when (s)he strikes, bows or blows it.

2. Processing this excitation by a resonator modeling the vibrating structure itself - be it a string, tube or plate. Properties such as its size, tuning, shape and material can be simulated by adjusting the parameters of the resonator."

WTPA2 - Where's the Party At 2 Hackable 8-Bit DIY Sampler

via I Got Junctions On the Low Low

"Todd Bailey, after making his fans wait 4 years(!) finally released Where's-the-part-at 2.0 WTPA2 today. There's about 300 units in the initial run and they will go fast. Todd has made noise about a Euro-rack version in the future.

Its a hackable 8 bit sampler DIY kit. from the manual:

Overview:

WTPA2 (usually) stores samples as 8-bit, monophonic, uncompressed audio. When used for live sampling, it initially stores samples to RAM. WTPA2 has 512k of RAM. WTPA2's sampling rate is anywhere you tell it to be, usually somewhere from ~30kHz to ~8kHz (or less). This means that WTPA2 can sample anywhere from ~17 seconds to more than a minute of consecutive audio. WTPA2's maximum bit depth (8 bits) is not high by modern standards, but it isn't terrible either. It sounds great for a thing that sounds crusty. WTPA2 can also save and load samples from an optional micro-SD card interface. Each SD card can hold up to 512 samples. Samples can be converted to AIFFs and stored on a computer, and vice versa.

WTPA2 can also play Nintendo Entertainment System DPCM samples from a properly formatted micro-SD card.

WTPA2 has three independent playback channels: Bank 0, Bank 1, and the SD-card stream. Bank 0 and Bank 1 work out of RAM, and can freely manipulate samples in all kinds of ways. The SD card stream is pulled directly from the card, and plays samples in a vanilla way at a fixed sample rate. NOTE-- samples may be loaded and saved from RAM to the SD card. WTPA2 has two general styles of user interface. Front panel buttons and knobs (Caveman) and a MIDI input (Fancy 80's Disco Style). WTPA2 can also take a control voltage input for the master sample rate VCO, and can be interfaced to modular synthesizers (Fancy 2013 Disco Style)."

"The Special Things:
- The keybed was refurbished by Sound Doctorin in 2011. It's been flawless since.
- The MIDI input was installed and configured by Greg Klosmon in 2011, and been flawless as well. (see photo)
- I created/installed what i consider my favorite upgrade of this synth, which is it's INPUT/OUTPUT insert point for patching either A) the synth PRE effects board OUT, B) the effects section independent of synth IN, or BOTH. More about this later..
- I built a V-Trig / S-Trig converter to allow the Polysix to be able to receive all types of triggers for the arpeggiator trigger input. This is included and is a simple patch when hooking up a respective signal. (not photo'd due to max photo limit here. it's just a simple small box)
- The battery was replaced several years ago so this synth avoided all of that battery/board leak stuff.
- I changed out R98 (resistor 98) to make the LFO circuit act perfectly smooth and at factory spec. There was a minor timing issue that had developed from age but it's perfect now and will be from here on.

"Мой самодельный модульный синтезатор на основе YUSYNTH
Ну вот, наконец я его заснял в работе. Поскольку midi-CV конвертер еще не готов, самодельная клавиатура-контроллер тоже "в процессе", а аналоговый секвенсор только изготовлен и занял свое место в системе, то... обязательно нужно накрутить какую-нибудь неувядающую восьминотную секвенцию, типа "афиллов" или "онзеран"...
Ну, поехали..No midi, no effects. Сплошной аналог.."

Googlish:

"My self-made modular synthesizer based YUSYNTH
Well, finally I photographed him at work. Since the midi-CV converter is not ready yet, homemade keyboard controller is also "in the process" and an analog sequencer only manufactured and took his place in the system, then ... definitely need to wind some timeless vosminotnuyu sequence, such as "afillov" or "onzeran" ...
Well, poehali..No midi, no effects. Continuous analogue .. "

Korg EMX-1 + microKORG + Sequetron demo

Published on Dec 20, 2014 Phil Tipping

"Live recording/looping/noodling Korg EMX-1 from a microKORG keyboard via Sequetron, showing a few basic operations. The computer screen shows Sequetron following my key-presses on the music keyboard, but it's not essential - it's not even visible from where I'm sitting! Ditto for the mouse and qwerty keyboard. After a bit of practice the music key mapping becomes intuitive (you can configure it how you want anyway) so you find you rarely look at the screen and can concentrate on the music.
All sounds are from the EMX-1 synths & drums and the microKORG; the EMX-1 internal sequencer is not used. Sequetron seqs (tracks) are allocated to MIDI channels 1 to 5 and 10 to drive the EMX-1 synth & drum parts respectively. Seq 1 is allocated to a different MIDI port to drive the microKORG on channel 1, and both audio outputs are sent to a mixer.
Computer uses a MIDISport 4x4 midi-to-usb adapter with MK-out to PC-in-A, PC-out-A to MK-in, PC-out-D to EMX-in.
See http://www.philizound.co.uk for Sequetron details & downloads."

The Talking Booms of Mario Capretta

(Band in a Boom* Box, the Final Chapter)

Raw files for supreme, artifact-free, listening joy:
http://studioelectronics.com/assets/A...
http://studioelectronics.com/assets/A...

The foundation for this distinctly Analogian adventure is the Boomstar 3003 crunch 'n chunk sound, warmed-up nicely by Slate Digital's "Virtual Tape Machine." I intended to accent it merely with the ATC-1-ish cross-mod vocal sound lead work (way back in early Sept.), which re-interprets my uber-talented friend Grecco Burrato's rich and rootsy guitar solo at 2:29 in my CODE-filtered Theriot offering (http://studioelectronics.com/assets/A...), but I kept getting pulled back into the power and poetry of the B*s circuits and smashing performance-centered feature set.

The jazzy polyphony heard at the beginning after my Uncle Mario's chuckles (more from him later, much more), is all Boomstar 5089, arranged on piano and tracked one note at a time—credit DP8's split notes feature; patience and persistence make pretty, and we are off to the races: the twin herculean pillars of 3003 rhythm and lead making friends along the way with slidey, glidey, echoey, multi-tracked B* 5089 / 1970's slippery, synthy goodness, B* 4075's punchy percolated arpeggiations, square-waved octaved finger bass, B* SE-80's rim shots, tablas, claps, 70's and 80's session snares, tuned "Tubaleans" kicks-basses, major toms, SEM hi hats and crashes, all of which thins out dramatically at 3:06 for the 5089/SE80/4075/SEM bass and beats break—picked up by those 5089 faux muted guitars—commencing the beginning of the culmination, or so it seems. Really, the show is just getting started with the 5089 holding court with its sweet and foxy leads on the run—love that "The Sweet" joint, a radio rediscovery one schoolday morning which revitalized and repurposed the back nine of “The Talking Booms,” called again upon the ARP-peggiations, Glam Synth drive, and clearing the mind for the late 99 year Oracle at Cleveland, Uncle M.

What are we learning? What are we storing up inside?

Thanks for the listening and read,
Marc A. Theriot St. Regis - Thanksgiving-ish 2014

p.s. Apart from DP and various audio plugins—my DAW was my friend—everything is Boomstar, apart from a backwards piano snippet from a rejected short film score of mine, and the snappy kick drum, hit by our Fox mic pre, and wrapped with several 4075 and SE80 kicks, when things get Marley. Oh yes, and brilliant cousin Eve (Capretta) Rouveral does the marvelous Mario mining."
