"Looks 9.75 of 10
In very clean condition, please see pictures.

Works 10 of 10
Everything works as specified, overhauled before shipping to have long life and to keep original sounds. All electrolytic capacitors, some short life OpAmps/transistors/logis ICs are changed with new ones, keys knobs, sliders, switches and jacks cleaning are done before shipping.

Special modification to commonize CV/GATE level installed on buyer's requst (need no extra cost but a few more days for work).

This keyboard requires bigger than +10[V] EXT GATE signal to start EG but seller will modify it to allow +5[V] GATE signal, that is today's standard signal level of modern reissured analog synths (afaik).

And this synth will make CV mismatch in your CV/GATE signal network (due to its F based CV protocol), seller will adjust CV level to make it connectable to your [OCT/V] synths or sequencers stresslessly..."

From the vault - another old W-30 techno rave disk

Published on May 31, 2015 SynthMania

"Here's another disk that I made in the early '90s, when I was playing Techno in Italy with a DJ friend of mine. In this disk I had chopped up the classic 2 √231 by Italian group Anticappella, very popular in Italy at the time. I had a few more sounds in it (a cat screech, an orchestra hit) but I don't really remember how I used to play them, so I improvised here. The 22 y. o. me loooved this song. And I still do ;-) I also added reverb from the Alesis Midiverb II, the fx processor that I was using at that time."

Published on May 30, 2015 peahix

"Just got this Korg SQ-1 and did some noodling with it and my Yamaha CS01II analog synth (which has had cv/gate inputs installed). The nice thing about the SQ-1 is that you can switch it to Hz/V, which is what the CS01II takes. The first part covers the different waveforms with a musical sequence, and the second part is drums done with filtered white noise. The synth was recorded direct with no FX or processing."

MATRIXSYNTH Site Tweaks - Making the Site Faster and Cleaner

FYI, I decided to make some additional tweaks to the site in order to improve page load performance and to clean up posts a bit. The changes are not meant to improve server performance, but rather to make the site quicker to load for you (and me), especially on mobile devices. This should be a good thing for all of us. More tweaks may follow behind the scenes. If anything impacts the use and features of the site I will be sure to let you know and of course let me know if you see anything odd.

The site is always a work in progress, and the focus is always the content itself, so be rest assured that will never change. It's all the extra bits around the content that change over time.  I came to realize that if the focus is the content, then anything else that might have an impact on that should have an extremely high bar.

First off, I decided to remove the new Like buttons just mentioned here. There are 10 posts per page on the site and each had to make a call to render and tally any Likes made. Not enough people were using it at the expense of the calls so I decided to nix them. That and for aesthetic reasons - the post footers should be much cleaner now, and you can share direct links to posts in your social channels if you chose to. I also removed the share buttons for the same reason. Update: share buttons are back for now.  Apparently they take up minimal code and I do not believe they make a call to the corresponding service until you click on one, so perf impact in having them should be minimal. We'll see... Aesthetically, they aren't too obtrusive, and they also provide a visual cue between posts.

Second, I moved popular posts and recent comments on the right to one consolidated page along with the archives. This should help with performance as lists no longer have to be created every time you just visit the site. The popular posts list has also been expanded to three sections: the most popular posts over the last 7 days, over the last 30 days, and over the complete history of the site. If you were ever curious what the 10 most popular posts of all time were (out of 128,817 published posts to date), head on over and scroll down.

As always feedback is welcome!

"Everything was meticulously cleaned by hand during the restoration. Sliders were dismantled, cleaned, polished, lubed, tested and only the best internals were used resulting in an accurate and perfectly smooth operation. All original Arp slider caps are included! Each switch was cleaned and slightly lubed. Old capacitors and some other old components were replaced then the synth was calibrated giving you a reliable Arp that sounds crisp, clear and full of tone. The keybed was also restored, keys cleaned, buss bars and spring contacts polished, key heights leveled, and new key bushings installed so the action is like new and all keys trigger perfectly..."

CVA from A4 into clock-in Men With Red Steam. (0.5V)

So it works, now do something useful with it.

There’s a huge sound presence difference between the two machines.
Plumbutter is raw and very dynamic, A4 is polished and all fits.
But I must experiment more to get some nice things going on.

I’m glad clocking is not an issue, and now have to make some more cables to send CV to CQ and PB."

Tarekith Electribe Live Set 05-30-2015

Published on May 30, 2015 tarekith

"Well, I knew I was going to start working on an electribe set after I wrapped up my Maschine Studio live set, I just didn't expect it to be the very next day! Sat down a few times throughout the day to polish up what I was working on in the electribe lately, and decided to cull a few songs that just weren't fitting the vibe I wanted.

I started getting an idea for a new electribe project while I was doing all this, but I knew that I had to put some of these current songs behind me before I could wipe everything and start from scratch on a new project. So, I decided to record a short live set with some of my favorite patterns at the moment.

I was mainly using the Wet Reverb master effect to help with transitions between patterns, I haven't been able to figure out a smoother way without knowing the track order ahead of time.

This is probably a good bit more basic sounding than my Maschine Studio live set, but I still enjoy working this way and seeing what kind of music I can write when using tools a bit more limited.

Audio only version:

http://tarekith.com/mp3s/Tarekith-Ele...

Happy that I was able to use some of these ideas I've been carrying with me as I journeyed from one continent to another, but also looking forward to starting over on a new electribe project now that I'm settled. Expect some more grey Korg box music shortly! :)"

The synth is fully functioning and sounds amazing. It could however probably use a service at an appropriate point. A few of the sliders are a little noisy and will need cleaning or replacing.
The unit has been tinkered with in it's past to add in some additional pots and switches. They actually add some really useful functionality. Each oscillator has an extra pot which provides extra fine tune which is really useful when dialling in any syncing between the oscillators. Each oscillator also has a 3 position switch that switches the oscillator octave. Very useful for building stacked oscillators quickly rather than using the frequency slider. On the ADSR you can see a switch over the attack and release sliders. The attack switch doubles the attack range and the release switch half the release range."

Roland GR-77B Vintage Bass Guitar Synthesizer vs GR-700 Demo Features Review

Published on May 30, 2015 WayneJoness

http://www.joness.com/gr300/GR-77B.htm

Preset audio demos below.

"The Roland GR-77B is the greatest bass guitar synth you have probably never heard of! The GR-77B has a superior synth engine, built around the fat classic vintage Roland JX-8P, and a quick 32 millisecond average response time, and tracking that outclasses both modern and vintage bass synths that rely on pitch-toMIDI conversion.

Both the GR-77B, and its older brother, the Roland GR-33B, benefit from following on the heels of more well-known guitar predecessors, the GR-700 and GR-300 guitar synths. In each case, the bass version has improved design and features.

This video details the features of the Roland GR-77B, and compares the GR-77B with the GR-700. The soundtrack for the video was performed entirely on with the GR-77b, with Stylus RMX only providing the rhythm/drums."

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Improvisation XXXXIX

Published on May 30, 2015 Sacred Synthesis

"This piece is a good argument in favor of synthesizers having twelve to sixteen voices. The envelope and filter settings are such that, when the eight voices are exceeded, a rather violent "pop" results as the notes are re-assigned. I don't think it ruins the music if kept to a minimum, but it profoundly affects the keyboard technique needed, so that the player has to constantly be aware of the patch's constraints

Of course, I could have poly chained the keyboard and module, and that would have given me such a sixteen-voice instrument, but I much prefer to run them in parallel - merely MIDI-ed together and panned to opposite sides, so as to give a fuller richer stereo sound in eight voices.

The music is modeled on a Prelude and Fugue format, but the so-called "Fugue" in this case is only an Imitation - a piece based on a theme that continuously but freely alters it in various ways. Whereas, a traditional fugue follows a stricter form. Fugue is positively my favorite type of music.

"The Bass Bot is an analog, monophonic synthesizer and sequencer, an incredible reproduction of one of the most sought-after analog synths ever. The sound is authentic not because of good sampling or modeling, but because it uses identical circuitry: classic transistor-based circuit design, using 21st century technology.

The sequencer uses classic step-entry programming, and stores up to 224 editable patterns, as well as 224 bot-generated preset (non-editable) patterns. The Bass Bot holds 7 songs of up to 127 bars, with everything stored in onboard flash memory, which means it will stay there when you turn the unit off..."

strng - new 16 voice polyphonic karplus-strong synthesizer for iPad & iPhone

Published on May 30, 2015 humbletune

"Strng is a string synthesiser inspired by the karplus-strong alghorithm. The physical modelling starts with a short burst of noise that then guided by a tuned delay buffer and string tension filter, generates plucked string like sounds. No samples are used. Strng is 16 voice polyphonic and can be controlled with an in app 25 key chromatic keyboard or connect prefered midi controller through USB or Wifi. To further shape the sound two post effects are available, a ping-pong stereo delay and two channel resonant filter controlled by two LFOs.

Vectorspace for Reaktor

Published on May 30, 2015 Peter Dines

"Vectorspace is a gestural sequenced sampler for Reaktor. Get it at http://reaktortips.com/2015/05/vector..."

"Vectorspace is a CPU friendly sample based ensemble for Reaktor whose sound at any given time is a superposition of gestural sequencers and effects. It also includes a sequeggiator – a probabilistic sequenced arpeggiator – that plays staggered chords as polyphonic sequences, creating a constantly evolving blend of rhythm and harmony.

It can also be played as a more traditional sampler, a soundscape creator or as a physically modelled synth using the sampled material as an exciter and the resonator effect as a body. The resonator is polyphonic and responsive to note and chord changes. Its partials can be tuned, damped and skewed to create bell, percussion and drum sounds, or abstract reverberations.

The sample position, sample length, grain spacing and envelope parameters can all be automated, as can the resonator, growl, filter and delay effects. Each XY fader can run in smooth or quantized mode, and quantized mode allows you to set individual clock speeds and sequence lengths for the X and Y axes of each automated fader. Quantized mode also gives you the opportunity to edit and fine tune the level of each step in a fader’s X and Y sequences. This makes it easy to create gated rhythmic filter effects or gradual changes. Sample position and automated fader controls can be controlled by MIDI (see mappings on panel B) or OSC.

It is impossible to predict precisely what sounds will be produced when you have various effects activated with different sequence lengths on different parameters. But at the same time, the gestures and sequence settings are under your control, so the end result will be a blend of your intent and the superposition of the cycling sequences. Think of it as an “inspire-o-graph” for sound, a machine collaborator to bounce back your ideas transformed. What it’s not good for: wobble basses, control freaks, type “A” personalities. Loosen up!

Vectorspace also features a compressor to even out the sound, and a microtuning macro that allows you to define any equal tempered tuning in either cents or Hz. Set a 5 or 7 tone scale for an easy exotic sound with no wrong notes or choose a 17 note octave division as the basis for an Eastern tuning."

Soulsby Synthesizers Atmegatron PCB Open Source 8-Bit Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Atmegatron is a revolutionary new synthesizer that takes classic 80s Chiptune sounds and adds powerful new features.

Musicians will love it because it is quick and easy to create and manipulate amazing sounds. The Atmegatron can do everything from bright square wave leads, to dirty basses, to wild sci-fi effects.

Programmers will love it because it is built on the Arduino platform and the software is open source. This allows programmers to change or add new features and upload them to the Atmegatron.

You don't need to be a programming genius to use the Atmegatron PCB. Even people with basic programming knowledge will find it straight forward to tweak the software and upload it to the synth. The software is written using the Arduino environment, which can be downloaded for free from the Arduino website and is incredibly quick and easy to use. If you have ever fancied digging a bit deeper with digital synthesis but have been too nervous, the Atmegatron is what you've been waiting for!

Features

All the functionality of the Atmegatron Complete
8-bit monophonic MIDI synthesizer
Quick and intuitive controls, no complex menu systems
Huge selection of waveforms and filters
Powerful synthesis features that takes Chiptune
beyond 80s computer sounds
Advanced arpeggiator sequencer
Analogue bass boost for warm bass sounds
Download the open source code from the downloads page
Download the free Arduino development environment
Tutorials and forums to help programmers
Upload software using FTDI cable
The Atmegatron PCB is designed for software programmers and hackers. It is a developer product and is very fragile because it does not have a case. Musicians wanting a synth for the studio or live are strongly recommended to go for the Atmegatron Complete."

Steve & Ollilab - 17 Sleep / Second Berlin School jam session

Published on May 30, 2015 ollilaboratories

Update: First take posted later here.

"Ok guys, this is it! :) Our second live improvisation Berlin School style jam session. This time round Steve has an even bigger ass modular... i mean seriously, just look at that beast! I have no idea whats going on in that box other than that it sounds and looks awesome.. so if you have any questions in detail on that one, direct them to steve. :D

So... technically, we did a recording prior this one (this is take 2) but i was stupid enough to not check my SD card in my audio recorder... which means we got cut off. I will however upload this one aswell, when i have the time to edit the video and all on that first session (take 1)... both me and steve think that it has better build ups etc toward the end so even if its not complete wed like to share that one with you all.

This track is very VERY psychedelic with pink floyd vibes all over the place playing the melodies on the System-1.. its way more laid back that our first piece. Let us know what you think.

Steves Gear list: Doepfer Eurorack Modular system 4xP9 cases filled to the brim with modules.. some of which he has built himself, (i wont list them in detail, if you have questions please ask and well try to answer)

Steve on youtube is "pxguru2329" so please tag him when asking
specifically on the modular.

https://www.youtube.com/user/pxguru2329

Ollilab Gear list: ms-20, TR-8, System-1, elektron analog four, KORG volca bass x 2, volca keys, arturia microbrute and the KORG SQ-1 sequencer.

FX used on the track: Jomox T-resonator mkII, SolidGoldFX electroman + SurfRider III, Kaoss Pad, Strymon Timeline, mooer reecho, zoom G3

Enjoy! ;)"

FARFISA SYNTORCHESTRA (1975) + Krautrock Phaser DEMO (analog synth + schulte clone) #39

Published on May 30, 2015 VolcaRock

"FARFISA SYNTORCHESTRA - Demo of an Italian analog string synthesizer with a mono synth section played through FX:
Krautrock Phaser, analog stereo delay and digital reverb.
Farfisa is well known for organs and their string machine with mono synth from the mid seventies was also used by Klaus Schulze, Manuel Göttsching / Ash Ra Tempel and Vangelis.

Although it is a preset synthesizer with less tweaking possibilities you can get some interesting lead and great string, pad, organ and piano sounds, especially with combining the mono and the polysection.

The Krautrock Phaser is a hand build clone of the Schulte Compact Phasing A . It sounds beautiful with the Syntorchetra. I mostly used slow settings. For analog stereo delay I used two Vintage Time Machines from Behringer which are built into one housing. The reverb comes from a Lexicon MPX-100."

Serge Twisting Metal Feedback Res EQ

Published on May 29, 2015 djangosfire

"A casual Serge feedback patch:

Massive timbral shaping of the NTO and a DUSG (as VCO) as they are mixed and modified via Wave Shaper and Wave Multipliers.... Then signal is split though a VCF and jammed into the WAD with manual Res EQ band tweaking (the Res EQ is in a feedback loop of the WAD).

Other crazy bits happening (out through a Freq Shifter etc) - result is a great heavy 'twisting metal' sonics.

Sorry for yet again cruddy iphone audio.... didn't plan to make a vid, but the patch just exploded, and had to share :)

Cheers! - Djangosfire"

Roland JD-XA demo

Published on May 29, 2015 Hunart©

"One day with the JD-XA... I was preparing a presentation so not much time left for the video itself, but I hope I captured some of the capabilities of the synth. This thing is huge in sound and I was waiting for a hybrid analog/digital synth like this a long time. It IS analog. It is dogital too. And it can give the best of both words If you know how to take it :)

I hope Styleflip will make a layout for this though ;)

In this quick demo every sound (except the few drum samples) and effect comes from the JD-XA which was recorded in to Cubase via a Roland Octa-Capture interface."
