"Running my Synthrotek Atari Punk Console module through its paces. Filter is the TipTop Z2040, sequenced by the Turing Machine and a bit of Maths. The setup for this jam was very simple. The APC is running into a Tip Top Z2040 filter and is being sequenced by a Turing Machine Voltages expansion as well as a Make Noise Maths. Drum sounds come from the Mutable Instruments Peaks module. "Trying to keep things a little more simple in this demo and show off the mixing / switching sounds of the Harmonic Oscillator. Width, Center, and Spectral Tilt inputs are modulated by Pressure Points and a Malekko Noisering.

First two sections are dry recordings, the third section has Erbeverb on the sustained notes coming from the Complex Oscillator."

Pics below from that listing. You'll find some details on the synth in a previous post here.

"Formanta ems-01 is most unusual sounding synth among the soviet made synthesizers. Its modulation possibilities are infinite, raw analog sound is absolutely unique, and it looks like peace of rock."

Catgirl Synth CGS07 Gate Sequencer

via this auction

"CGS07 Gate Sequencer module in MOTM format. Four channels by 2-8 Steps (step number selected by front panel rotary switch. Small flaw on front panel from when the corner of another module gouged the faceplate (see pictures). Recently re-wired. Fully tested 100% working condition.

Here is some additional info from Ken Stone's (Catgirl Synth) Modular Synthesizer website...

"By itself, the main board of the gate sequencer can be used as a sequential pulse generator. When clocked by an external source, each of its outputs will come on one after the other. This can be used to sequentially trigger up to eight events. An example would be to set the number of steps to 2, then connect outputs 1 and 2 to two drum sound generators. A pulse train fed to the clock input would then produce a drum roll alternating between the two drum sounds.

When coupled with the switch bank and buffer boards, rhythms of up to eight steps can be created. Each switch bank and buffer board contains two channels. Additional switch bank and buffer boards can be connected to main board to produce gate sequencers with more channels. While these outputs can be used to trigger drum sounds, that is not their only use. They can be used to trigger envelope generators, step waves in wave tables, drive other sequencers etc. Once you have a gate sequencer in your modular, you will wonder how you ever survived without it."

Moog Music Partners with Georgia Tech for Guthman Student Design Challenge

"Georgia Tech is Happy to Present the Guthman Musical Instrument Student Design Challenge Sponsored by Moog

Join us to create the next generation of musical instruments and be a part of the 2015 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition – an annual event to find the world’s best new ideas in musicality, design, and engineering. Wired magazine has called the competition an “X-Prize for music,” and contestants have likened it to a TED Conference for new musical instrument designers.

This year, for the first time, we are partnering with the legendary Moog Music and our own Georgia Tech’s Invention Studio to help Georgia Tech students create their own musical instruments, win prizes, and share their work with instrument designers from around the world.

If you are a Georgia Tech student and want to participate, here are the three dates you’ll have to remember:

· January 9 – Last date to register. (After this date Moog will open registration and promote the event to the wider music community). Space is limited so be sure to sign up early!

· January 9, 2pm – Information Session. Join us for an information session at the Georgia Tech Invention Studio (MRDC Building) to learn about the prototyping tools, software, and support that will be available for you throughout the process.

· February 15, 2pm – Hackathon. Participate in an 8 hour Hackathon using 15 Moog Werkstatt kits, sensors, Arduino boards, and physical objects you have designed (or found). Present your invention that night to peers and judges for cash and prizes.

Prizes include:

· 1st place: $1500

· 2nd place: $1000

· 3rd place: $500

· The three winning teams will also receive $3000 in Moog products.

All participants will be invited to present their instruments in a special event during the Guthman Competition preliminaries on February 20th."

In addition, the book covers the design of the theremin and Bob Moog's electrifying contributions to modern music. Apart from a little cover wear, the book is in very good condition. "CZ Touch is a patch editor for the Casio CZ series of synthesizers. If you have a CZ-101, CZ-1000, or CZ-5000 then this is the editor for you! CZ Touch gives you touch-based control over all of the voice parameters on your CZ synthesizer. Just make a change on the screen, and the change is instantly sent to your synthesizer.

CZ Touch especially shines in giving you direct, easy control over the 8-stage envelopes on your synth. No more menu diving to create a complex envelope.
Here are some more features:

* Save patches to your iOS device, with names
* Share/export your patches via email: patches are saved as sysex files that can be transmitted to your synthesizer by a sysex program.
* Copy/Paste envelopes between DCO, DCW, and DCA
* Create random patches
* Copy the current patch from your synth to your iOS device, for further editing

Use this app either with a MIDI adapter for your iOS device, or via a wireless MIDI connection to your Mac or PC, with your CZ synthesizer connected to your Mac or PC via MIDI.

REQUIREMENTS:
* A Casio CZ synthesizer (CZ-101, CZ-1000, or CZ-5000)
* A MIDI adapter for your iOS device, OR a Mac or PC connected to your CZ via MIDI and a wi-fi connection between your Mac or PC and your iOS device.

NOTE: This app does NOT make any sound! It's just an editor for your Casio CZ synthesizer. If you don't have a Casio CZ synthesizer, this app won't do anything useful for you.

This app is not affiliated or endorsed by Casio. It's just an app I made to fill a need!"

Modular Synth Live Performance: "The Cartel" (@obrienmedia)

Published on Jan 6, 2015 Patrick OBrien

"I'm still fairly new to modular synthesis (5 months into it), and this is my first full song performing live. No computers used. No editing.

Audio recorded straight into to a GoPro Hero 4 (using 3.5mm Mic Adapter). It was hard to get the right mix since the GoPro has built in compression I can't control. It's not an ideal device for recording audio, but I wanted to capture audio with the live performance.

The main modules used here:
-Kick is Mutable Instruments Peaks
-Snare is Noise Engineering's Basimilus Iteritas
-Hats are from the Noisering filtered by Mutable Instrument's Ripples

The most difficult task: working with the Pittsburgh VILFO as my clock source at a very slow 4 BPM! Made the hats glitchy in previous recording attempts, but this one finally worked out nicely.

The oscillators used:
-Mutable Instruments Braids
-Pittsburgh Oscillator
-The Harvestman's Hertz Donut MK2.

Synthesizer is Dave Smith Instrument's Mopho.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Pics of the inside below.

"1981 Rev 2 Sequential Circuits Prophet-5. This is the early revision which features the SSM oscillators, filters and envelope generators. SCI switched the design to Curtis because SSM could not supply their need. Many Prophet-5 fans will tell you that the SSM filters are more interesting than the CEM filters. This synth sounds great and is in great condition. The factory patches have been loaded and it has been recently serviced. All switches, pots and LEDs work as expected. The keyboard buss bar and j-wires were cleaned after the new bushings were installed. The keyboard plays very well. The metal nameplates are in good shape on the front and back, the plate under the control panel was replaced with a new one.
upgrades and service

New rubber keyboard bushings
Kenton UK MIDI kit (In/Out/Thru) - the only midi kit for the rev 2 from what I understand.
Cassette In/Out for patch dumping
Power supply mod which reduces the need for the -5v and +12v supplies, EPROMS replaced
New battery
All this work and calibration was done by a former SCI tech in the bay area."
