T.D.O.D.

Published on Feb 8, 2015 br0therl0c0

"Taking a very basic 808 bass/snare beat quickly into noisy rhythm drone territory. The Tiptop SD808 snare sound feeds a Moogerfooger MF-104Z delay with a MF-108M Cluster Flux wired into its external loop. Tweaking the delay time on the Cluster Flux provides a ton of sonic character and variation. Two Korg MS-20's provide a bass drone (panned hard left and right in stereo). The Andromeda provides a string pad drone with some bell-like sounds from the Taurus pedals and the Prophet. The 5U modular provides a sequence using dotcom, Moon, MacBeth, STG, and SSL modules.

Everything is performed/sequenced live. All synths and FX are analog and CV controlled.

Annotated to provide a bit of info.

Details:
- The MS-20 Mini sits high up out of frame and is pitch/gate slaved to the MS-20 Kit via CV.
- Dotcom sequence is a single MK1 'A' oscillator through a heavily modulated STG Sea Devils Filter and into a MK1 'A' Lowpass Filter.
- Yes I'm using massive bass pedals to make a tinny little sound. It was time for something different.
- Live mixed using 2 Alesis Multimix 8 Line mixers.
- Recorded straight into Digital Performer using a MOTU 828 MK3 audio interface. No mastering.
- Shot in HD with a Canon Rebel t4i. Edited in iMovie."

"So I was really happy about getting a fabulous 5000+ subs on my youtube channel so i decided to make another track this weekend :) This one is a bit more groovy but still on the ambient side of the scale.

I worked a bit more with camera angles this time.. still its pretty hard to get a good shot on all the gear, need to work on this a bit more in the new studio room.

As usual, no multitracking or computers involved, all is played live... This one is for you all, I hope you like it. BoOoOm! :)

Gear used: ms-20 mini, System-1, TR-8, KORG volca bass x 2, volca keys, analog four, mininova vocoder

FX used: Strymon timeline, Solid gold FX electroman, zoom G3, mooer reecho, t-resonator and the kaoss pad."

The Unicorn Double-Ambika

This one in via Duncan

"Meet the Unicorn, finished in 2015.

I decided to build this combined, double-Ambika. after reading that Olivier Gillette had released a new OS version which allowed chaining of two Ambikas. I contacted Adrian Hallik about creating a center-joint mod for his fantastic case design; Adrian was immediately responsive and helpful.

I built many voicecards for this project, including a number of extras to give additional flexibility in the synths' long-term use. Here is the currently installed voicecard configuration:

Left side: four SMR filters; one SVF filter; and one Moog-ish ladder filter.

Right side: four 4P filters; one SVF filter; and one ladder filter.

As I mentioned, I built spare voicecards, so that each box can be revised to have either all SMR or all 4P filters. I also built two extra SVF filters.

Finally, I have built a lot of DIY-project gear, but the Ambika is absolutely at the top of the heap, in terms of design and usability. I am still discovering new magical things it does. To put it mildly, I am in awe of Olivier Gillette's design and engineering skills."

Darwin Grosse Interviews AudioCubes Inventor

via the Percussa newsletter

"Hi everyone, this is Celine from Percussa. I'm the other half of the Percussa AudioCubes Team :-)

I'm very happy to annouce that Darwin Grosse interviewed Bert Schiettecatte last week about the upcoming MIDIBridge 3 release for AudioCubes!

As you know Bert is the inventor and designer of AudioCubes and the main person working on the AudioCubes software and hardware and has been working very hard on this release, which introduces the exciting Topology mode.

In this interview, Bert talks about how he got involved in music technology, his background, what it takes to build music technology products and how he started Percussa and developed AudioCubes.

Listen to the interview (podcast) here.

He also goes over how the AudioCubes technology works and what is inside each of the AudioCubes and some of the challenges he had to tackle in developing AudioCubes.

Bert has been at it almost a decade, listening carefully to what AudioCubes users need and want. Here is what Darwin says about the interview:

"Bert's story is a somewhat common one - a guy with a vision of a product that works hard to make it happen. But when you start talking about all the different things that he had to learn - and master - for this implementation to succeed, it seems like an impossible task. So how does one person make the impossible happen? That's what we talk about. I hope you enjoy this one - it is very revealing, but also points to one of the most innovative products out there."

About Darwin Grosse

Darwin Grosse is the Chief Learning Officer at Cycling '74, which makes the audiovisual programming language Max/MSP. Darwin is also an adjunct faculty member at University of Denver, Colorado, and is a well known magazine writer, recording and mastering engineer and modular synth enthousiast. Black Sun by Atomic Shadow & Thoughts on the KORG KingKorg

"This track was made using only the KingKorg synthesizer. Two of the patches make use of combinations of inharmonic DWGS waves and X-mod/ring mod waves respectively. Various wave combinations were made on the fly during recording, as were LFO amounts and effect settings. This synthesizer shines at real time control."

Published on Feb 7, 2015 Rhythmicons

"Inspired by a technique mentioned by Morton Subotnick in the 'I Dream of Wires' documentary, I took three sequencers at different rates and lengths to create a sort of pseudo-random or quazi-aleatoric pattern.

The Synthesizers.com q960 set at a very slow rate is controlling the pitch of the Moog Voyager. The q119 is controlling the Voyager's filter. The Moog CP-251 LFO is controlling the speed of the q962 Sequential switch , which is bouncing between the rows at its own speed. The output of the Voyager is gong to the Vermona VSR3 spring reverb.

If anyone has any ideas how to get rid of the hum, let me know.

Thanks for watching."

"Roland CA-30 Intelligent Arranger & Roland CF-10 Digital fader. The CA-30 contains the same arranging functions as the RA-50 and E-20 keyboards. If data containing a simple melody and chord progression is prepared with a sequencer (or sequencing software), and transferred to the CA-30 via midi, the data can be output complete with accompaniment through the CA-30s midi output, or fed back into a sequencer for more complex editing. The CF-10 is a midi "fader" module with 16 membrane type "faders" each controlling midi volume (fixed) for that channel. In addition, a fine control, and panning. Both items have been tested and work great with other MIDI gear! Panning your MIDI synth channels really opens things up, great for getting bigger, more interesting sounds, & the Intelligent Arranger is great for adding some funky groovebox-style beats to your MIDI gear. Both do not come with a power supply, however will work just fine with universal adapters. The CF-10 comes with the manual, and you can easily find the CA-30 manual online."

JOMOX MICHAELIS RESONATOR NEURONIUM SYNTHESIZER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is the first realisation of a device with Resonant Neuron Synthesis, called the "Resonator Neuronium".

The new paradigmas are named complexity, order from chaos, self organisation of complex systems, networking and cooperation. From a certain complexity onwards a system is not even the sum total of its parts but a greater whole which gains totally new attributes than its sub structures. More about the philosophy of this device you can learn at

www.jayemsonic.de

The Resonator Neuronium has 6 analog resonant neurons. The net parameters can be programmed by the lefthand structure in form of a hexagon by use of knobs, buttons and LEDs.

We have 6 neurons with 6x6 = 36 net connections for one parameter. In order that summation and FM is connected, we have 2x36 = 72 net connections with individual pots for each node.
