A Nutting They Did Go

Published on Mar 4, 2015 John L Rice

"A bit of a zany tribute to NASA and other space exploration organizations around the world and also to science fiction writers and producers. They both inspire each other and provide the rest of us with some of our most exciting hopes, dreams and fantasies.

Thanks for watching, liking and commenting on my videos!

DETAILS:

Main Bass Line: 3 x Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCO's, sub-mixed with a Moon Modular M526 mixer and then into a Grove Audio PM Resonator followed by a prototype/beta sample of Grove Audio's G294A low pass filter kit I built (basically a Moog 904A clone) and finally into a MOTM-190 VCA that is being modulated by a Moon M511C VC EG. A Moon M569 sequencer provides 1 row of pitch control for the VCOs and gates for the EG, 2 rows of CV for the EG and the 4th row is transposing rows 1 and 2 via my custom modification. A MOTM-380 quad LFO also modulates the overall CV level of the EG. Strymon Mobius and BigSky pedals provided effects processing.

Occasional Melodic Line: Novation UltraNova MIDI'd to a Korg microStation playing preset patches in unison.

Rhythm Line: Roland TR505 drum machine playing stock patterns. MIDI out of the TR505 also goes to a Moon Modular M553 MIDI-To-Clock module to drive the M569 sequencer.

Lift Off Roar: Just a quick bit of sound design I did with the 5U modular. Two outputs from a MOTM-101 Noise module go into a Happy Nerding Fun VCF with a little help from a Synthesizers.com Q125 Signal processor etc.

Asteroid Thump And Following Explosion: these are licensed from Pond5.com and I had used them in a previous video a couple years ago.

Movie Dialog Clips: There are all licensed from Loopmasters.com and from two different movies; Assignment Outer Space and Cosmic Mission. (except for the word 'DERP' that I recorded myself ;-)

Video Clips: A majority of the clips are public domain and I downloaded them for free from www.pond5.com! Such a great resource for video makes, check 'em out! Some of the clips I had licensed before and used in prior videos.

Modular synth audio was recorded to a Marantz PMD-661 flash recorder and then transferred to my PC. Keyboard synths were recorded direct to the PC via the Ultranova's USB interface. My 'Derp Voice' was recorded direct to the PC using a Blue Microphones Yeti USB mic.

Everything was mixed/assembled in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12."

Beyond Tape Warble With The Haas Mixer for Propellerhead Reason

"From tape warble to flanging to FM-like chaos, you can cover a lot of ground if you’re looking to expand your sonic palette. Check out our product page for more details. Company Website: http://flyinggreendoor.com/"

Published on Feb 20, 2015 Flying Green Door, Inc.

"The Haas Mixer’s primary function is to implement the binaural psychoacoustic effect known as the Haas or Precedence effect. This effect utilizes time delay to change the perceived direction of a sound source assuming stereo output. By definition this means that each channel of the effect requires a mono input. The effect can directly replace traditional panning or add spatialization to a more traditional mix.

Stereo Width

By increasing the range control above 10ms, the perceived directionality becomes more difficult to discern but what you end up with is a wider stereo image. This can be very useful for providing stereo width to an otherwise dry and isolated sound source.

Voltage Control

Like all rack extensions, this device accepts CV input to control the directionality of your sound sources. With increasing LFO rates this can become an effect all by itself creating stereo sonic chaos from yet uncharted territory.

Flanging

For convenience, the Haas Mixer comes pre-wired to allow mono output which sums the left and right channels. Using the mono output will produce flanging effects similar to those heard from most variable time delay units."

"HUGE sounding Waldorf Pulse V.1 analog synth module in great studio condition. This version of the Pulse sounds rounder and more "alive" than the current one, and it's three powerful oscillators can hold their own against a Minimoog IMHO. Filter is amazing as well, with tons of modulation options. Cuts through a mix better than any analog I've used..."

The Synthesizers.com Q174/Q175 MIDI Interface Modules

Published on Mar 4, 2015 mootbooxle

"This is a quirky sort of overview of the Synthesizers.com Q174 MIDI Interface and Q175 MIDI Interface Aid modules. I tried to keep the talking to a minimum and pack this video full of sounds...But with a pair of modules this feature-rich there has to be a fair amount of explanation.
These modules are wonderful! They made me confidently put aside my well-loved Kenton Pro-2000 MIDI/CV interface, and they leave the previous Q104 MIDI module far behind. This is one solid MIDI to CV converter.

Thanks for watching! Subscribe to see more synthesizer videos - there are many more to come!

Early Vintage E-mu Modular Analog Synthesizer For Sale

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a rare (funny how often that word is used but how little it actually applies to a listing) E-mu modular, 14 module system that was custom built by a prominent musician and a PhD student. It was used in the schools music program and advanced classes in the 70's. It was purchased directly from a university many years ago and still had the university logo and inventory number on it when I took possession. It was just a sticker and I removed it. I have had this Synthesizer for a long time and was always afraid to have it serviced until I meet a true expert on E-mu modulars and tracked down some schematics. I recently had i serviced and it works and sounds fantastic

Every module was gone through by a master technician. All of the oscillators work and are some of the best sounding oscillators I have ever heard. If you follow my listings, or know me personally, you know that I have owned/sold some high end, great sounding synths.

Here is a list of the modules

Voltage controlled Oscillator 1200
Voltage controlled Oscillator 1200
Voltage controlled Oscillator 1200
Sample and Hold 1410
Universal Active Filter 1122
VCDTG 1350 (your envelope ADSR etc)
VCDTG 1350
VCDTG 1350
Pink Noise Generator
Voltage controlled filter 1100
Voltage controlled Amplifier (this is also your mixer)
Dual voltage controlled Amplifier
Multiples Pannel for CV/gate etc
Ring Modulator

The instrument measures 35x19x12

Originally all the controls were labeled with pencil but they have worn off over the years. It is pretty obvious what module is what. The cabinet is in excellent condition and is made of attractive hardwood. This is a unique instrument and in my opinion a part of synth history. Feel free to ask any questions. During my time on ebay I have sold: Minimoogs, Memorymoogs, Voyetra Eights, Jupiter Eights, DK Synergies and many more rare synths from my collection. I received positive feedback for them all. This should go to someone who is willing to do a small amount of restoration and exploration but you can really start to enjoy it right out of the box all you need is a CV and Gate signal! The Kenton Pro Solo II pictured is not included, if you need it let me know and we can work something out, a variety of patch cables are included. Please give me at least a week to get it packaged up properly, I want to make sure it arrives in one piece and that the packaging is fool proof."

"Classic 1976 semi-modular synth by Roland. The Model 101 is the heart of the System 100.
This synth has a huge sound thanks to its super snappy envelopes, discrete VCO and diode filter. It can give you those squelchy 303 like sounds if you want.

This example is in incredible condition despite being nearly 40 years old! All the sliders are super smooth and operate without any of the pops and crackles you might expect. It sounds beautiful!

The keyboard will re-trigger sometimes."

Sunrizer for Mac Released

Announced here on February 10, Sunrizer for Mac is now available.

Details and specs captured for the archives:

"Beginnings
Sunrizer first debuted on iPad and instantly set a new platform standard thanks to its great sound quality and refined interface. Many artists are using it live and in studio, and after multiple requests the iconic iOS synth is now available on the Mac. All your silky pads, thick synths, biting leads, ground-shaking basses - Sunrizer does them easily, its own way.

A classic with a twist
Sunrizer is built upon a familiar subtractive synth design – but with a distinct character and a host of unique features. It starts with two oscillators and two sub-oscillators that deliver all of the basic waveforms and a perfect emulation of JP-8000 “supersaw”, with pulse width, frequency and ring modulation plus a lush unison mode. The oscillators are fed into two powerful filters with serial or parallel routing, offering traditional low-, high- and band-pass modes as well as comb, resonator, waveshaper, and frequency shifter algorithms – and more. To set all this in motion, Sunrizer has two ADSR envelopes and two LFO generators that can modulate virtually any parameter.

Master of effects
Sunrizer has a very flexible effects section which boasts an input crossover filter that lets you apply them only on a specific part of the spectrum. There is a total of four effect modules – the first includes silky-smooth chorus, phaser and rotor algorithms alongside distortion, followed by stereo delay, two-band equalizer and a spacious and highly tuneable reverb. Yet with all this power Sunrizer still keeps the processor load low, thanks to heavy code optimizations.

Powerfully live
Where the Sunrizer’s sound engine ends, the fun only starts. First off, each patch has two sets of parameters and the synth lets you morph between them – as smoothly or as wildly as you wish. Sunrizer also sports an arpeggiator that has fully programmable sequences and supports per-note transposition and randomization – together with chord memory it allows you to create elaborate yet finely controllable single- or multi-finger passages.

Polished simplicity
Despite such an extensive feature list, Sunrizer has a single-screen design with finely crafted graphics that especially look gorgeous on Retina screens. All of its building blocks are logically arranged and easily accessible, with each individual parameter carefully calibrated. This lets Sunrizer give you a mix of utter pleasure and great productivity that is lacking in most unnecessarily overcomplicated synths.

Specifications
Bespoke synth engine with 24 voice polyphony and very low processor load.
Two oscillators with multiple waveform types, hard-sync, pulse width modulation.
