Folktek Time Machine Demo

Published on Mar 19, 2015 kpsiegel

Folktek on eBay

"This is a demo of the Folktek Time Machine. This is a very unique piece of audio art/equipment. It uses magnetic patch points to change up a delay and modulation circuit. The patch points are activated by depressing metal keys which actuate magnetic switches. There are controls to speed up or slow down sampled audio and there is the ability to overlay samples into the audio stream.

I sampled my voice in real time through an SM-57 into my Mackie CR1604 amp which had the Time Machine on a send and the return from it into a separate channel. An Ekdahl Moisterizer was used to provide reverb and the sweeping filter you hear.

The time machine is definitely an interesting piece of kit! Watch it in HD for best audio. The phrase "31" does not mean anyhing FYI."

Sign of Life

Published on Mar 19, 2015 Martin Peters

"It has been a while for various reasons. Lately I am trying to make music for a CD or BandCamp so maybe this will be realized in the coming months. Anyways, this is an improvisation I did last evening. It was recorded in one take.
There are 4 tracks sequenced by the Cirklon:
- Two Synthesizers.com VCO's mixed by the STG mixer into a MOS-LAB 904-A filter
- The MOS-LAB KOBOL VCO and a Synthesizers.com VCO filtered by a STG Post Lawsuit Filter
- The Rob Hordijk OSC HRM
- Percussive noise from the Self Built Modular
The tracks are manually transposed from Em, Gm, Am and Cm using different scenes. The solo is played on the Moog Voyager Old School. And the Yamaha SY77 is used to add some chords. Please enjoy."

Spirits Of The Temple Electric - World In A Drop

Published on Mar 19, 2015 John L Rice

"This one just came out of some late night noodling and running an electric piano sound and modular sequence through the oscilloscope. I was more focused on watching the oscilloscope then making listenable music but I decided to try to make something out of this anyways! ;-)

While the initial piano sound produced smooth shapes when I added the thin sounding sequence it added nice little lines that are reminiscent of the legs, antennas, cilia and flagella of aquatic insects and microorganisms.

The electric piano sound is from a Roland Fantom XR and the modular sequence is a simple patch of two Synth Tech VCO's controlled by a Moon Modular 569 sequencer and passed through a Happy Nerding Fun VCF. Later additional synth parts were added with a Korg microStation (choir voices in first half and lead solo at the end) and a Novation Ultranova (beginning ring modulated like bells and ending sustained root chord). The drum part was played live on a Ludwig marching snare. Strymon BigSky reverb pedal used on original track but post oscilloscope.

I have a quick overview of how I make these videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHW5I...

I made a video playlist that contains all videos in this series in order of creation chronologically: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list..."

MonoMiK - Analog meets digital

Published on Mar 19, 2015 Michael Kukat

"It's been a while since my last video, especially since my last video about the MonoMiK. This monster project was boxed for several years and didn't see power because i was busy writing an operating system for it and didn't have lots of spare time in general.

Okay, i also got distracted with other stuff that i can do with this operating system like SD card to SCSI adapters, MFM to USB bridges and some other crazy shit :)

But finally, the basic bits are there and i decided to switch back to this project. Working on it since several weekends, today was the moment to put the new digital control part together with the existing analog synth stuff.

The MonoMiK is a real analog synthesizer, just the control part is digital. So you have all those knobs for changing the parameters, they don't go through the CPU, they are directly connected to the synth modules. But you can still store them by some tricky override mechanism. At least this is planned.

To avoid tons of switches for waveform selection and configuration of the routing matrix, there is a touch screen with a GUI where those controls go. And here, you see the first test of how those things work together. It's the prototype of what will get a PCB during the next weeks.

Using circular DMA and some fancy tricks on the STM32F207, this generates 80 analog control voltages without using any CPU power, i plan to control oscillator synchronization using the STM32 timers also, which allows very fancy features for this synchronization, there is a lot more to come.

I hope you don't need to wait too long for the next part. Just wanted to say i'm back :)"

I created a new MonoMiK channel label for these moving forward. A quick search on MonoMiK will bring up previous posts.

Tiptop Audio Launches New Record Label - Tiptop Audio Records

Tiptop Records presents Various Artists 001 - Official Teaser from Tiptop Film on Vimeo.

http://www.tiptoprec.com
http://www.tiptopaudio.com

"Tiptop Audio is proud to introduce a new project for 2015: Tiptop Audio Records.
In the recent years musical productions have seen a remarkable return to the use of hardware through analog synthesizers and digital control interfaces. This trend has proven so strong that it prompted a rebirth of modular synths in a new format (eurorack). Tiptop Audio has made a name producing sophisticated but easy to use modules, designed to form a complete system that is especially effective for dance-oriented productions and live sets.

Tiptop Audio Records selected for its first issue some of the most groundbreaking artists using such systems, to present a range of artists who, through their tracks, explore the landscape of dance music in a very fresh perspective. These are the artists who inspire the Tiptop team to make more innovative devices, which in turn make new music (a nice feedback loop).

ANGLE, BLAWAN, CHRISTIAN BURKHARDT JOAO CESER, JOHN TEJADA, JOSEPH FRAIOLI, MOE ESPINOSA (DRUMCELL), KINK, RICHARD DEVINE and SURGEON each contribute a track stamped with their own style and vision. Tracks range from Surgeon’s trademark hard minimal beat, to Kink’s gauzy dreamscape, while Richard Devine and Joseph Fraioli explore the outer reaches of beat based music. The Phase VI team (John Tejada and Moe Espinosa AKA Drumcell) produces an endlessly shifting set of percolating rhythms, Christian Burkhardt and Joao Ceser put some 21st century twists on classic dance floor patterns, ANGLE lay down effortless, sophisticated Continental style and Blawan adds some industrial toned menace.

The release will initially come as a double vinyl edition, with a cover painted by the artist Matteo Giampaglia, and a digital download version will follow.
An original video teaser will introduce the compilation, then other videoclips of the individual tracks will be realized by exciting new visual artists."

"An overview of the various features of the XILS-lab miniSyn'X synthesizer: The golden Age of DCO and VCF !!"

"It is inspired by a famous and legendary Synthesizer from the 80's, which a lot of talented guys used as their central Keyboard, including some synths Gurus.

Its a piece of history, maybe the last Vintage Analog Polyphonic synthesizer.
It has a special multitimbral mode, 5 different hi quality and hi character filters, as you could expect from a Xils-Lab synth.
It is MORE than a strict emulation.
It has many additional features compared to its glorious ancester, as you could expect from a modern era synthesizer .

But this is NOT ENOUGH. It has also never seen features !"

Synclavier Digital Audio System

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is an extremely rare music production system, that to my knowledge is the only one of its kind in the country [Australia]. It has done minimal work and is overall in excellent condition. The spec of the machine is as follows:
16 PSV Voices

50 kHz stereo sampling

15mb of sampling RAM.

16 Multichannel audio outputs: These allow any of the voices to be routed to any outputs.

MIDI: 1 In 8 Out, in addition to the extremely rare Midinet option (16 in & 16 out) and supporting software interface. This allows the graphical assignment of the MIDI matrix (similar to an Opcode Studio 5) and the ability to use the Synclavier's digital sequencer (memory recorder) to run numerous midi gear.

5 ¼ inch floppy drive: The system uses this only to run the boot program at start up.

Sound library - The system comes with 2 x 9 GB drives full of some of the best samples ever recorded of a large range of instruments, from orchestral, synthesizers, vocals, percussion and foley sounds.

Software: The machine can also be operated via an interactive screen display of all the VPK functions. In addition, there is also an EditView program that allows graphical editing of arrangements, similar to early versions of Cubase.

Computer: The machine is interfaced using an Apple PowerMac 7100/66 in excellent condition. This computer is the last of the NUBUS Macs and is required to run the Midinet NUBUS interface card and all the original NED supporting software. The unit also comes with a modern LCD monitor and rare mouse.

Velocity Pressure Keyboard: The VPK is in excellent condition aside from some slight wear in the yellow screen printed strip above the memory recorder panel. There is also a small cosmetic crack in the piano finish next to the ribbon controller; however this in no way affects the function of the unit. The keyboard does however have a problem with the rotary encoder dial. At the moment it will only allow parameter changes in one direction. From what i understand the fault is most likely in the potentiometer and i am currently in the process of trying to get it fixed before the end of the auction. Besides this, all other aspects of the system are fully functional and the dial can be adjusted on screen with the mouse, along with all the other keyboard functions.

Manuals: Included also are 3 printed manuals which provide a comprehensive overview of all the machines functions and capabilities.

Power: Being built for the US market the system also comes with a large 3000 watt step down 240 to 115 volt power supply.

Support: As mentioned earlier I purchased this system from Synhouse Multimedia in the US. Synhouse not only has a huge inventory of Synclavier spare parts, but also a vast amount of technical knowledge regarding the operation, repair and maintenance of these systems. As such, this system can be expanded well beyond its current specification.

The system also comes with the original NED road cases. For those interstate, i am willing to assist with the pickup of the system, but you will need to arrange freight and insurance etc."

"Very rare to find one with the original manual which is totally unmarked inside. It shows how to use the synth, various sound settings to 'dial up' and has spaces to write down and 'store' your own.

It plays, feels and sounds just like it came out of the box in 1979. Needs nothing, no scratchy pots, sliders, or any double triggers. All original parts that function smooth and quiet. Since it has MIDI installed, it sync's up with your current DAW in seconds. You will not regret this investment since Prophet 5 Rev 3.3's with MIDI professionally installed will only appreciate in time, especially in this condition. So enjoy making unique, warm, PRO analog sounds just like many famous artists have with this superior tool for over 30 years."
