Vintage ARP Odyssey Mk I 2800 Whiteface Restored with CV/Gate/Trig Mod

"This is a beautiful example of the classic whiteface ARP Odyssey model 2800, ready for studio or stage. ARP designed the Odyssey to be a simplified, hard-wired ARP 2600, with the great sounds of that coveted classic in a smaller, more portable package. The Odyssey was also ARP's answer to Moog's Minimoog when it debuted in 1972. 
This example is itself likely from 1972—it has a low serial number and the "MANUFACTURED BY TONUS, INC." sticker on the back. It's in 100% operating condition and is extremely clean inside and out. My tech, who specializes in Odysseys, gave it a ground-up restoration. All sliders, switches, knobs, keys and jacks work flawlessly. This Odyssey sounds truly amazing and is a pleasure to play in its restored state. I play it frequently and can assure you that every function works as it should. The tuning is stable instantly with hardly any warm-up time, which is a great characteristic of these oscillators and rare for an old analog synth. Forget the crap Korg Odyssey reissues—this is the only way to experience this classic synth and appreciate how truly great it is.
Here's exactly what my tech did to bring this amazing synth to its current state:
* Everything was meticulously cleaned by hand during the restoration.
* Sliders were dismantled, cleaned, polished, lubed, tested and only the best internals were used resulting in an accurate and smooth operation.
* All original Arp slider caps.
* Each switch was cleaned and slightly lubed.
* Capacitors and other audio path components were replaced then the synth was calibrated.
* The power supply was rebuilt and calibrated supplying accurate voltage over a long duration.
* The keys were cleaned, buss bars and spring contacts polished, key heights leveled, and new key bushings installed so the action is like new and all keys trigger perfectly.
At some point in the past someone modded the Odyssey with a CV/Gate/Trig in/out (see picture). My tech checked it and said it was a good job and works 100%."

Its not a full Demo of all the features but should give an idea of what it can do. The delay is also from the deFormer, (you can select secondary effects of reverb or delay). There is some external reverb added."

"The good:
- it's an original TB-303!! The most legendary acid bass sounds you could ask for. I've had endless hours of fun pushing the desk-gain right up, putting it through a tape-delay and turning the knobs to produce that signature freak-out acid sound. Not much more to say :D
- I've had it fitted with a Kenton ProSolo CV/Gate control mod so it's MIDI compatible.
- The previous owner complimented the paint job with some blue LEDs which are pretty cool.
- Kenton ProSolo controller and downloaded print-out of the manual included.
The bad:
- first up is the paint-job. The previous owner saw fit to spray-paint it blue which certainly gives it a unique look (and goes really well with the blue LEDS). Whilst you can't tell what the controls do by sight it's pretty obvious once you start twiddling knobs (there's also a downloaded printed manual that will help).
- the battery cover is missing (these are often available on ebay as spare parts).
- the chassis has suffered some heat damage and has a small chip on one corner. It doesn't affect the sound at all but it's there nonetheless."

"RSF KOBOL Keyboard version (1978)
I made this demo video right after servicing the unit.
RSF produced less than 200 units of the keyboard version of Kobol, and God knows how much of them
are in working conditions on these years. It is a very rare and very interesting synth, with its audio path
based on SSM chips (VCO, VCF, VCA) and 16 memories.
Curiously, the digital board which interfaces the panel and allows parameters to reach the memory
"has none CPU chip", nor even an eprom with a routine. It's all C-MOS logic and a pair of 1k-bit memory chips.
We are talking of 1978 !"

"In this episode I test the cheap eBay LM2596 Modules with an adjustable electronic load. Turns out they are horrible: more than 100 mVpp ripple at 1 A. It gets better when another inductor is added in series with the module, but I chose to go with the original Elektor design after all."

The synthesiser is in excellent condition for its age with only a few minor dings as you can see in the photos. Everything functions as it should, all faders and buttons etc are fully functional.
As you can see the battery compartment is clean with no signs of battery leakage. There are a few minor scuffs around the battery compartment as can be seen in the photos.
On the bottom / underside of the synth someone has written their name as can be seen in the photo, this I'm sure could be cleaned off if necessary but it has never bothered me so I haven't bothered to do this.
I'm also including a brand new spare battery door cover and pitch bend wheel. These are almost impossible to buy now and and will help to future proof the synth for its new owner.
Original Roland power supply included. The user manual can be found online as a PDF.
Overall this is an excellent example that has been well looked after."

If you have done your homework you will know that this stuff is Eurorack compatible etc etc. so I m not going to go into that stuff here. If you want specs go to www.roland.com/aira
In this Video I'm using the AIRA modules in their more traditional Role as FX units following a Standard Audio path. As explained in the Video, Roland did not give me any extra patch cables with the modules! I needed the ones that came with the System 1M just to get the audio out.
Yes, I could have only used 1 module to Show off CV routing to one of the FX from the System 1 but it still would have been limited and If I'm going to show off the Modular-ness units properly I want moar cables!"
