The mod grip looked as if someone had tried to work on it when I bought the keyboard and I don't know if it works. I've never worn it. The synth plays fine and has a clean battery compartment..."

The Electric Muse - Alessandro Cortini, Todd Barton, & Robert Coburn Coming to Stockton, CA

Update: new poster.

Mark the date!

via University of the Pacific:

"A concert on analog synthesizers featuring Alessandro Cortini from Nine Inch Nails, Buchla Modular Master Todd Barton, and Conservatory composer Robert Coburn.

This concert is a celebration of the opening of the Conservatory's new Analog-Digital Modular Studio, based around a Buchla analog modular synthesis system integrated with a digital system for audio processing and recording. This new facility offers students the opportunity to work with one of the most creative, hybrid technology music systems available today.

Analog modular synthesizers came into being in the late 1960s when Donald Buchla on the west coast and Robert Moog on the east coast developed their systems for composition and performance. Buchla and Moog synthesizers were the ultimate in analog creative systems until they were replaced by the new wave of digital technology. Analog systems experienced a re-birth in the 1990s and early 2000s and now provide unique creative alternatives to computer based systems. Based around the simple concept of voltage control and existing in the real world of knobs, switches, and sliders, analog systems embody a direct physicality in performance that is hard to accomplish with virtual systems."

Fixed Keyboard scaling. Broken 100 ohm resistor replaced. Also changed the kbd current source 4558 chip in case strained as cheap part

Solar Powered Modular & Synths in a Tent in the Forest

That's my kind of camping.  :)

Via Phil999 on sequencer.de, translated by Florian Anwander who sent this one in:

"I came back today from the forest and have gained experience with solar and Euroracksystem. Extremely impressive both.

The batteries and solar panels from http://www.sistech.com are just great. With no effort I could run a small modular system, a Windows tablet, and other devices completely independent of the power grid.

The highlight of the batteries is that you can simultaneously charge and deliver. I have to explain this a littlebit: A XXL88 accumulator loads a maximum of 2A / 17V, can therefore absorb only 34W. The large panel provides 112W in ideal conditions. That means you can charge the battery on the one hand and still have (theoretically) at 78W output.

The Endorphin.es modules are simply awesome. I can only recommend. The high price is justified, it is definitely worthwhile to save some. I am modular for some time on the road (but with antique equipment), but what Endorphin.es has since transported me into a new league. It has turned out that I simply need LPG's. And a complex oscillator. That's the sound that I want. And it'll still be cheaper than with Buchlasystemen. And Shuttle Control makes the whole thing so much easier. Simply create with the editor a couple of presets, then control with an iPhone (Lemur) objects, or of course on the computer in the studio. This extends the capabilities of the system enormously.

Everything is still a bit new to me, although I would be attributed more to the old-timers. There are simply the new developments on the market that will change the thing. So what was a few years ago just is not available.

Here are a few impressions."

Sample Logic Introduces Balinese Gamelan VI

"Sample Logic morphs and mutilates best Balinese gamelan instruments into VI fit for a new world

NEW YORK, USA: award-winning sample library company Sample Logic is proud to announce (upcoming) availability of GAMELAN — the latest in a lengthening line of superlative sample-based virtual instruments powered by Native Instruments’ industry-standard KONTAKT PLAYER platform, this time morphing and mutilating 25 world-class Balinese gamelan instruments to create a stunning selection of inspirational cinematic-quality atmospheres, melodic instruments, thundering percussive impacts, and twisted loops — as of September 1…

GAMELAN is where world instruments meet hybrid synthesis. Achieving this is easier said than done, though that is exactly what the talented team at Sample Logic has achieved with relative ease… well, with a little help from their friends. Recorded on the celebrated scoring stage at Skywalker Sound in Marin County, California, GAMELAN features over 1,700 world-class traditional and morphed gamelan instruments which will surely blow the creative minds of sound designers, composers, musicians, and producers alike. No fewer than 25 instrumental (Grantang, Jegogan, Jublag, Kajar, Kantilan, Kempli, Pemade, Penyacah, Reyong, Suling, Trompong, and Ugal) and percussive (Cedugan Wadon, Cedugan, Ceng Ceng, Gentorag Chime, Gong, Gupekan Wadon, Gupekan, Kempur, Klentong, Krumpungan Wadon, Krumpungan, Rebab, and Vocalese) Balinese instruments were recorded there in 24-bit/88.2kHz, then morphed and mutilated to craft the highly-creative content for GAMELAN.

GAMELAN welcomely weighs in at over 14GB as a result. As such, it features a diverse library of 1,700 KONTAKT PLAYER-compatible patches, perfectly divided into the following categories: 421 ATMOSPHERES (58 BIZARRE, 97 DARK - MYSTERIOUS, 71 ELECTRONIC - EFFECTUAL, 87 MIXED EMOTIONS, 28 STINGERS, and 79 WORLD ORGANIC); 316 INSTRUMENTALS (55 ARPEGGIATED, 104 WORLD ORGANIC, 74 SYNTH, and 82 TRADITIONAL); 332 LOOPS (84 ACTION PACKED, 120 ELECTRONIC - EFFECTUAL, 51 POP HOP, 56 WORLD ORGANIC); 368 PERCUSSIVES (31 ARPEGGIATED, 11 HIT ENSEMBLES, 266 IMPACTS, 17 TRADITIONAL, and 42 TRANSITIONS); and 260 MULTI CORES (34 ATMOSPHERES, 71 INSTRUMENTALS, 53 LOOPS, and 47 PERCUSSIVES). Explore unlimited possibilities within GAMELAN by combining those ATMOSPHERES, INSTRUMENTALS, LOOPS, and PERCUSSIVES within a single, easy-to-use interface. Moreover, mix up to eight ‘Soundsources’ while retaining nuanced control over each sound to create massive ambiences, crushing impacts, complex loops, soaring leads, or even stacked multis with all of the above triggered by a single note! Alternatively, why not simply use one of the thousands of included preset instruments for instant inspiration?

Phase Locked Loop sequence with Microbrute

Published on Aug 30, 2015 SGE

"Phase Locked Loop (PLL) patch with Microbrute running a sequence into the eurorack modular. Modules used for the PLL are AniModule XXX_OR (as phase comparator), SOB (Low pass filter), LMVCO (2nd VCO), and LogicOgic (clock divider).

Other modules used to shape the timbre are Make Noise FXDF, AniModule Scanner, DDVCA, V9a, Line Amp, and Mengqi DPLPG. Effect is a Roland RE20 delay/reverb.

The end result is a sort of plucked, "koto" type of sound that varies a lot by the notes/octaves played by the Microbrute."

See the recent videos on the X1L3 channel.

Modifications and embedded circuitry:

Analogue resonant filter with high pass and low pass bands
Gain, resonance, low pass/high pass toggle and cutoff
A nice warm filter based on the synthacon.
Lot's of resonance and a unique character of it's own.
Violent, squelchy and crunchy when overdriven in this machine.

Digital 'death industrial' delay
Rate, noise, feedback, off/on toggle
This delay variant is based on the formula applied and the output of circuit bent delay pedals which have been sold in the past.
A versatile and if desired aggressive set up that can drift between ambience, echo and all out harsh noise wall and power electronics.

Analogue distortion
Dual mode distortion with diode clipping, filter and gain.

PSU - DC hum suppression circuitry
A regulated psu is now built into the machine.
This gives a stable and quiet power supply to both the drum machine and additional circuitry as well as
providing a quiet output and excellent noise floor.
Input voltage is +12V tip positive running 2 amps.
Please be aware of the amp rating of your adapter. It MUST run 2 amps or above.
Suitable adapters are available at low cost on ebay.

Midi retrofit & Gate output
The drum machine now has midi capability by means of an embedded microcontroller.
The four drum channels can be triggered via a sequencer or daw.
Trigger notes are: C3, C#3, D3, D#3 and F3 for the gate output.

Midi is set to CH16 but if you'd prefer a different channel for convenience i can flash the firmware before shipping for you
and assign it to what ever channel is most convenient for you.
The gate outputs at +5v and can be used to trigger other devices such as adsr's and also drive eurorack sequencers.
One of the videos below demonstrates the gate output driving a sequential circuits pro one sequencer.
The gate isn't locked to a time signature so if driving a sequencer you can advance it however you want.

Master pitch control
Gives a large global pitch range - demonstrated in the demo videos
The pitch has a high and low setting and a coarse and fine control.
The fine control gives you conventional pitching of the drums, the coarse will take them down to vicious noise, droning and glitching.
The drum machine now serves not only as a percussive instrument but a generator of abstract sounds and textures.

4x4 glitch matrix
The glitch matrix disrupts the percussive sounds and warps them into various forms of data crash and glitch.
A very interesting modification on it's own. It takes on a whole new level when the fx chain is applied.
