Two Knocks For Yes - Spooky Event with Buchla 200e Performance & Release in Time for Halloween

Published on Oct 6, 2015 black channels

"A little sneak peek of preparation on the Buchla 200e for the Two Knocks For Yes live show which takes place at Saint Andrews Church, Brighton (UK). Also being released as a limited edition cassette on Castles in Space Records [details on the release with embed below and Two Knocks for Yes event trailer further below.].

'In every story of things that go bump in the night, there are two possibilities. One, that it’s a hoax. Two, that there is something going on beyond the grasp of the human mind'.

And so begins Black Channels’ radiophonic exploration in to the poltergeist phenomenon that forms part of this evenings immersive entertainment, alongside a talk on the folklore of death and water by James Burt, ghost stories and archive video footage and photographs, all hosted by paranormal enthusiast, Curtis James.

Real life reports of paranormal activity, otherworldly vibrations and oscillations, chilling accounts of nocturnal visitations and strange activity in the most mundane of suburban surroundings will echo around the 19th Century stone walls of Saint Andrews Church, Brighton.

There are tales of hauntings in the venue itself (no longer used for worship), and it is certainly true that the burial vaults beneath the pews have yet to be removed.

Doors open at 7:30pm. Performance starts at 8. There will be no admittance after 8.

This event is part of a series called Miniclick contacts the spirit side. It is produced in collaboration with Miniclick.

Tickets here - http://www.eventbrite.com/e/two-knock..."

Details on the cassette release:

Mixing real life stories of paranormal activity with otherworldly vibrations and oscillations conjured up on the Buchla Electric Music Box. Following on from their brilliant and well received debut single on Death Waltz Originals, this limited edition cassette continues their preoccupation with other worlds, parallel dimensions and the dark tapestry of the imagination. Chilling accounts of nocturnal visitations and strange activity in the most mundane of suburban surroundings echo in and out of focus alongside electronic manifestations and tape manipulations in this 26 minute experimental radio collage.

Side two features wonderful incidental instrumentals soundtracking true ghost stories which provide essential tools for all paranormal investigators and otherside travellers.

Each tape comes with a free download, and two hand numbered Ghost Spotting Report Forms, enabling those working in the field to report their own ghost sightings and visitations. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you.

Two Knocks For Yes will be released on cassette/download by Castles in Space on the 9th October in time for All Hallows¹ Eve. Artwork by Nick Taylor."

"Yamaha CS80, including top lid and steel legs.

This CS80 is fully functional. All 8 voices from each channel work, the keys play as they should (pressure, release, etc), and the ribbon also functions properly.
This CS80 is in very good cosmetic condition. But as it is more than 30 years old, it bears some signs of wear. Please see photos for details.

It was serviced by a professional technician in 2014. Service consisted in the replacement of series 4000 chips (including those for the note assignment board), power supply capacitor replacement, cleaning up of panel potentiometers and switches, and calibration (please note that calibration may be necessary again after shipping)."

TT-303, Korg Synthepedal and Funkbox demo by Jordan Passmore

Published on Oct 6, 2015 Jordan Passmore

"In this demo I am performing some acidic house with the Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303, Synthetic Bits Funk Box iPad app and a Korg Synthepedal. The iPad is being ran through the Korg Synthepedal (which is a band-pass analog filter w/ envelope follower). The drum set for the majority of the video is one of the TR-909 patches in the fantastic Funk Box iPad app. The two of these are mixed on an old Bogen transformer mixer (it is located under the iPad a bit out of shot) which is distorting as it really just loves to do so with a little bit signal. The audio then is going into my Yamaha MJ100 DJ mixer which applies a bit of EQ and digital delay, followed by my audio interface."

Todd Barton Transmissions II
at The Dance Space in Ashland, OR

"Saturday, October 17 8pm.

Studio A.B and Control Voltage Therapy present an evening of multimedia / interdisciplinary performance by Todd Barton and Bruce Bayard, with special guests Lawson Inada, Damon Honeycutt, and Christine Williams. Buchla Music Easels, video projections, movement, poetry, and voice come together in a creative melting pot. Each artist brings their own responses to a single abstract concept, that of the conveyance of ideas and information. They then create the evening's performance in the moment without rehearsal or prepared script beyond general agreement of sections relating to emphasis on word, movement, imagery or all at once. The collaboration produces an intriguing, surprising concordance.

Left to right: Todd Barton, Bruce Bayard, Damon Honeycutt, Lawson Indada, Christine Williams.

Lawson served as Poet Laureate of Oregon and has won numerous book awards including the Oregon Book Award, and the American Book award. Damon is currently pursuing an MFA in Music Composition at The Vermont College of Fine Arts. He has traveled extensively worldwide and has preformed with Pilobolus Dance Company. Christine is a classically trained singer and actor, and has performed at Barbican Centre in London, the Growtowski Institute in Poland, and eight seasons at OSF. She is currently developing her own form of solo music theatre. Todd was composer at Oregon Shakespeare Festival for over forty years and is now creative consultant to Buchla Electronic Music Instruments. Bruce is a self-taught visual artist and video designer. Together, Todd and Bruce form the music performance duo Control Voltage Therapy.

EMS Synthi 100 For Sale

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note this one is from Analogue Solutions and is not yet working. You might remember the EMS Synthi 100 in a van and the decals posted here. This is that Synthi 100. Update: New pics added including a much larger version of the overall system to the left (click on it). Also there was no connection to John Carpenter. I might have misread John when the reference was to Tom Carpenter of Analogue Solutions who is selling it. I asked Tom how much of the system was original and he said, "Only really the cabinet is not original as the original one was destroyed."

Details from the listing:

"yes you read it right - Original EMS Synthi 100 s/n 16 (of around only 28 built)...

This unit is nearing the completion of full restoration -

I am finding it hard to dedicate time to complete this project due to running my own business and a busy family life. But I will complete it if need be!

At my work rate it will take at least a couple of years, despite that fact it probably only needs a few full time weeks to complete.

Selling this now as is is an opportunity for someone to jump the queue and avoid themuch higher price it will fetch when completed by me.

If you are after a Synthi100 - this could be the only chance to get one since most are now locked away in museums or private studios.

I am only looking to reclaim the total cost spent on this and will write off my weeks of labour time so far invested.

Sale price will be in the 5 figures, but significantly less then a completed unit. (I have been offered figures in the region of £60K for it when complete)...

Very briefly, to complete:
Final stage of the re-wire (estimate about 2-6 days to do that). Most of the wiring has been done, it's just the final leg. Double checking the wiring, then finally checking each card one at a time - to repair any dead components (dead due to age).

Essentially the synths is complete and almost no money needs to be spent on it other than labour time and any spare to fix any faulty boards...

Sale includes Full service documentation, plenty of EMS patch pins, original double keyboard, spares, cables - and a strong steel table if required."

Moog mars musings part ii

"Back in January 2004, when NASA’s Rover Lander touched down on Mars, Todd Barton began creating and posting a one minute daily music composition based on that day’s image from NASA’s website. Using his new Signature Moog Voyager as the exclusive sound generator, a looper and an effects pedal he created 110 Moog Mars Musings tracks.

Soon after the first few posts Edmund Eagan responded with the idea of tying each score to a current Mars image. Near the end of February Edmund started to create and synchronize his video manipulations with the music and posted those on his site.

The mars musings project ran online every day from January 25 to May 14th, 2004.

Here are the second batch of 20 of the Moog Mars Musings project. More to follow over the next few months."

"Hackability"

The KNOBBEE 32 is built with having tinkers and hackers in mind. You can modify our Open Source firmware we wrote for the controller (Atmel ATmega 32u4 / Arduino) or even put your own.

You can configure the KNOBBEE 32 via MIDI system exclusive messages. This includes aspects such as the resolution, MIDI mapping, behaviour of the switches / LEDs and calibration settings. We have written an editor in Max/MSP which provides easy access to those settings.

You can also buy the KNOBBEE 32 with our enclosure or order our enclosure design files and built your own enclosure. (It is not recommended to use the KNOBBEE 32 without an enclosure.)

Enclosure

We have currently two types of enclosures. One uses a combination of acrylic and wood (seen above).

The other uses only acrylic

If you buy the KNOBBEE 32 without an enclosure you'll get the fully populated PCB, all knobs (not shown) and the top plate so it is easy to integrate it into other enclosures."
