Moog Mother-32 (x3) - Tribute to Seb's Mos-Lab Demo

Published on Oct 28, 2015 Genshi Media Group

"This is a very rough and sloppily played tribute to seb17320's excellent 'Mos-Lab 15 demo' video. I wanted to see if I could pull-off something close using three Moog Mother-32s. The playing is really rough (due to attempting to play a solo on the little buttons instead of keys) the sequence is not very close to the original, and the video editing in general is crap (I couldn't figure out how to do Seb's 4-way split screen) but I hope everyone can appreciate the spirit that this demo was intended in! Seb's original video can be found here (I highly recommend watching it) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0JbL..." [posted here]

VOLTLIFE: Verbos HO weird vocoder

Published on Oct 28, 2015 voltlife

"By feeding a sound source into a multi-band filter, taking each band's output into an envelope follower and then using the resulting envelopes to control the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator's individual harmonics, you can create a very vague approximation to a vocoder. In most cases the filter's bands won't match the frequencies of the HO (and in my case I used a Serge Resonant EQ, which definitely doesn't), so it won't create a very intelligible vocal sound. However, the input will indeed control the timbral dynamics of the HO's output, producing very interesting tones out of complex inputs."

"This unit can take a thin digital sawtooth oscillator and transform it into a swelling chorusy string synth that would make Vangellis proud. It's based on the classic sounds of iconic string synths of the 70's such as the Solina, Roland RS505, Yamaha SS330, Korg Lamda, and so on!

If you've got a soft spot for that classic string sound, but don't have the space for any of the above mentioned beastly analog synths, this little rack unit makes a great addition to the studio. Its what convinced me to sell a few string synths and it can make my micro-brute sound like a Roland RS-09."

"Roland System 100 Keyboard. Its in amazing shape, just had it professionally serviced at the Analog Lab in Long Island City. All knobs, sliders and keys were checked, cleaned and the synth has had a full calibration and cleanup done. There are no double triggering keys or noisy pots on this one! The unit itself is in great cosmetic condition as well, built like a tank, these were truly made to last. If you're reading this far you probably don't need a formal introduction to this bass monster. This synth IS what people would be referring to as the "Roland Sound" when talking analog synths, it has a pure rich quality and is often compared to something like the TB303. The rare diode ladder filter and oscillator combo are what gives it a unique analog punch and warmth. The patch points on the front panel and the CV IN/OUT make it a great keyboard to interface with Eurorack systems."

"So, this is my ElectroComp 101 Synthesizer, Made by Electronic Music Labs. Inc. in Vernon Connecticut. These were out on sale in 1972. I guess one of the most important things you should know is it works. There are some flaws to this particular item and i will get to that, but as far as all of the controllers and effects everything seems to be in order. I picked this up about a month ago at an auction, I didn't have any chance to meet the previous owner and find out if it had any imperfections so i just had to inspect it myself. PLEASE CHECK THE PICTURES THOROUGHLY. The first thing i noticed was light scratching on the the top and back of the wooden box and the handle was replaced by some rope and electrical tape. Then i saw that ONE LATCH (the one on the right side) was missing its top piece, Along with a small chunk of wood. _ I opened it up, and set it up and found the next defect.. The input to the main control panel from the base (keyboard panel) was not in its proper place and had been rigged up through a self made hole in the top panel. This PREVENTS The Keyboard Section to Be detached from the top control panel.>the wires are connected and the panel has to be opened up to disconnect or It obviously can be fixed and put back to its proper place... OK . So now that i got most of that out of the way, here's the good news. It's an excellent ride. I plugged the power cord into an outlet and ran the ElectroComp 101 Through my amp. The light came on when i flicked the switch. It took a while, but i came to find out that EVERY KNOB, EVERY SWITCH, EVERY KEY ON THE KEYBOARD WORKS. AND IT'S AWESOME."

"Someone asked me what apps I have/like/use, so I thought I'd do some videos featuring them in the future. Besides, I'm broke and having to sell some of my hardware instruments, so it'll probably do me good to investigate bankrupt-proof music making possibilities. Among the many apps I've been impressed with is Laplace. This video does nothing to demonstrate the kind of resonant sounds that the app does best, but I was just messing around with it and this fell out. So I recorded it. No additional effects or post-processing was used, just its arpeggiator, built-in reverb and delay. The patch was made by me, starting from a new, empty patch.

The video is of the Imperial War museum at Duxford (UK). Sorry about the wonky horizons, it weren't my fault, the world kept moving.

Din Sync to Release RE-303 - New Roland TB-303 Clone PCBs

RE-303 - its not a clone, its a replica

Published on Oct 28, 2015 phono1337

"more info at http://www.re-303.com http://www.dinsync.info"

It looks like Din Sync is coming out with a new DIY "replica" clone of the TB-303. There have been plenty of emulations of the 303, but only a handful of actual clones. There was the x0xb0x was based on the schematics of the original 303, Cyclone Analogic's TT-303, and most recently Abstrakt Instruments Avalon Bassline Synthesizer which I've been told has circuit boards that can be swapped into an original TB-303.

The FAQ via http://www.re-303.com:

"Ok ill start with a few obvious questions, feel free to ask more and I'll try to answer them for you.

Q: What is the RE-303?
A: the RE-303 is a replica of the Roland TB-303 motherboard and switchboard

Q: Why do we need yet another 303 knockoff?
A: There have been many clones, I honestly wanted to make a genuine replica. Now the dead TB-303's with broken motherboards can come back to life and new TB-303s can be born.

Q: Hasn't this been done already?
A: Actually no, not in the purest form. We've had the x0xb0x which sounded very close but didn't look the part. We've had the TT-303 which looks that part but is not a genuine replica of the original hardware. The RE-303 circuit boards have been made by dissecting a mint condition pristine TB-303 and manually recreating the board in CAD from the hardware rather than the service schematics. Every nuance and mistake in the hardware not in the service notes is recreated in the RE-303. It really is for all intents and purposes a TB-303. [Note: I was told the Abstrakt Instruments Avalon Bassline Synthesizer boards can be swapped]

Q: When can I get one?
A: As soon as they are ready, just post on the waiting list thread. By the nature of this project It's likely to be limited, so first come first served.

Q: What about kits?
A: This is likely to never happen sorry, this project is probably going to be the most hardcore DIY many have tried. But it will be worth the effort!

Q: What about rare parts, the VCA and CPU, memory chips, switches pots etc etc.
A: There currently exists many solutions for these today and I'm actively working on some as part of the project.

Q: How long will this all take?
A: How long is a piece of string?"

Yamaha DX7 IID - Performance patches

Published on Jul 29, 2013 roboticrealm

"The performance patches can now be downloaded here:
http://www.lukaslundh.com/Music.html

Yamaha DX7 IID (made in 1987) differs from the original DX7 (made in 1983) in that you can stack two patches on top of each other and make a performance patch. You can either stereo pan the two sounds left and right or have them both at the center. Here I demonstrate some of the performances that I've created from existing patches. The first performance sound however, was found on the instrument when I bought it. The sound at 1:00 is a sound I recieved, and made a perfomrance patch of, from Paul Mangru here on Youtube, that I've tweaked a little bit. The sound at 4:01 is a sound I've programmed myself.

Even though the DX7 is digital and excels at the typical FM electric piano sounds and bell sounds, it can sound pretty warm and analogue which you can hear when you listen to the pad sounds in this video.

I played the DX7 IID is without any additional effects.

Korg Poly-61 - Demo of a few patches

"Korg Poly-61
Analogue polyphonic synthesizer from 1982

FX: Roland Dep-5

This is a great and cheap analogue synth. It has 6 voices with 2 DCO's per voice. It has quite a dirty and gritty sound. I like it very much, and even if I don't use it as often as I used to, when I use it I use it mainly for arpeggios and lead sounds.

In this video my playing is kind of sloppy. I don't practice as much nowadays as I used to so I apologize for that. I hope you can still enjoy the sounds and get an idea of what kind of synth this is.

In my unit I installed CHD Electroservis Midi kit so I can thankfully hook it up with a computer."

KORG DW 8000 - A few patches

Published on May 26, 2013 roboticrealm

"Korg DW 8000 - Hybrid Synthesizer from 1985

Digital but with analogue filters. One of my favourite synths that I use on almost all my songs. A wide variety of sounds can be achieved, a few really exciting ones when using the delay. I use it when I need really fat leads, bells, brass, pads and odd, airy, spacy sounds. It can also be good for DX7-like bass sounds but I almost never use it for those type of sounds. When I need bass I mostly turn to my Polysix, Juno 60 or my Jupiter 4.
The DW 8000 is an amazing piece of gear and it's quite cheap!
Highly recommended!

The patches heard in this video are mostly sounds I've found on the web. A few sounds I've programmed myself.

Excuse my sloppy playing. I hope you enjoy the video! This is my first video for Youtube so please be kind!"

Roland JX-8P: favourite patches

Published on Jun 16, 2014 roboticrealm

"JX-8P Polyphonic Analogue Synthesizer

No presets are used in this video.

Since I felt that my last JX-8P video was a bit inadequate I made another one. The patches you hear in this video were found on the internet and a few I've edited or programmed myself.

Since the JX-8P needs a little bit of effects to really shine I show you each sound with and without effects. On some sounds I use the Unison mode. I used +14 detune in that mode
(you can change that by hitting the Master Tune button).

I find the JX-8P to be best for pads. It's probably one of the best pad synths out there! It's also great for brass sounds and has good analogue type bell sounds. It also does lead sounds quite well. And with a little tweaking you can create quite good bass sounds.

Roland JX-8P is a 61-key, velocity and aftertouch sensitive, six-note polyphonic, fully analog synthesizer released by Roland in 1984. In a time of rising popularity of digital additive synthesis instruments, such as Yamaha DX7, JX-8P was marketed as best of both worlds: while it was possible to create classic analog synth sounds, several new modulation parameters and redesigned hardware enabled it to produce certain types of sounds
associated with FM synthesis, such as metallic percussion.
