Ray Wilson of Music From Outer Space (MFOS) Has Cancer

It's come to my attention that Ray Wilson of Music From Outer Space (MFOS) has cancer. You all know his work in the DIY synthesizer scene. This is horrible news. Our thoughts, prayers and well wishes go out to him and his family. You'll find more info including how to help Ray and his family online here.

Update: For those that would prefer to donate to Ray's family directly via Paypal I am told his Paypal address is info@musicfromouterspace.com. I just tried it and payment was successful. Remember, this goes towards helping his family, so be sure to send it as a personal payment vs. services and goods. Paypal fees should be less. If you are tight on cash you can always send a little now and more later if you get around to it. Every little bit helps and will add up if enough people contribute even just a small amount.

Moog 701 & 702 - sequenced

Published on Nov 20, 2015 noddyspuncture

"So having now basically finished all four modules, two 701 and two 702... I couldn't wait to see if they responded to my Q960 sequencer..! I threw the patches together... quickly soldering jack sockets for trigger and also for the filter CV on the 701's. They both work really well but I think I shall need to be able to control the gate length (pulse width...?) when I build my dedicated gate sequencer. With too long a gate pulse I couldn't get the really short trigger I need for a 'snappy' envelope setting - especially for the 702 percussion synth..! In this video I am adjusting the 702's LFO rate to try and keep 'in sync' with the sequencer tempo. It worked most of the time...;)"

Synthrotek MST - VCO

Published on Nov 20, 2015 DivKidMusic

"Looking for an analogue VCO? This could be the one for you! :) I really love the saw wave an octave up, it gives the impression that the other waves are the sub in the patch and I just like the way of thinking that the Saw +1 is the main wave and I have sine/triangle/square/saw as a sub to work with in a patch. FM sounds great and so does PWM."

Oxford Oscar Vintage Analog Synth in Excellent Condition

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Up for sale is a super rare Oxford Oscar Vintage Analog Synth in near Mint condition. It was just serviced by one of the top analog synth techs in the country so it has years and years of use before needing any attention. Everything works perfectly and sounds incredible. If you're unfamiliar with Oscars, they are notorious for crapping out. Well, this one had all the connectors, solder points, etc. redone and is rock solid. And it's even been converted to 120V so no step down converter is necessary.

Its many functions include programmable harmonic waveforms, patch memory, sequencer, great arpeggiator, duophonic capabilities (play two notes at once) scorching filters allowing for LP, BP, HP, overdrive capabilities. Does great bass, leads, crazy sounds that no other synth can reproduce. This is truly a one of a kind!

It doesn't have the preset sounds loaded b/c I could not find the appropriate midi files, however, from what I recall those sounds aren't anything to write home about. The fun part is creating your own sounds than nobody else has."

"Serial Number 1000-0534 (as pictured)...

The synth was fully serviced just last month by one of the best in the business, Steve Jones up in Sydney. It is in fully functional working order - The only minor issue (and it's very common in Prophet 5's) is that very occasionally some keys double trigger (play a note twice). This is to be expected in older P5's, and whilst the key contacts were cleaned during the last service, I've noticed it happen once since I've had the synth back in my possession (I'm being pedantic, but it needs to be mentioned..."

Analogue Dubsta Delay (Chip Gain Mode) TB-303 and TR-909

Published on Nov 20, 2015 Space Cat Audio Technologies

"The delay is connected via the Aux send/return of a mixer, the chip gain control lets you overdrive the 4 MN3005 ic's. The dry signal remains clean but the delayed repeats are distorted. The close up shot shows the settings for the slowest modulation when running on a single bbd. The last snippet at the end shows off the brighter feedback repeats. We are just adding the final touches to the design and then will be moving onto the latest board revision. More info as it happens, please subscribe for updates."

Korg Volca Beats Minimal Groove - Stutter effect, Mute, Solo demo

Published on Nov 20, 2015 Tony Horgan

"Recorded direct from the Korg Volca Beats. No post-processing. This shows off the Stutter effect and also how the Snare can be used with no "Snappy" to link up with the Kick and Toms. Halfway through I add the Stutter to the Closed Hat, and then I record it onto that part by pressing Record and wiggling the Depth knob. The drum fills and variations are mostly done by changing the Part and adding Stutter as I play. I also use the Mute and Solo controls to isolate single sounds and bring everything back in. To use Solo, hold Func and Mute, then press one of the Part keys from 1-10."

Grendel Drone Commander DC-2E, mellow

Published on Nov 19, 2015 EA78751

"By reqest, a demo of the mellower side of the upcoming Grendel DC-2E Drone Commander 2 eurorack module, illustrating its sonic relationship to the earlier version. Patching CV from the keyboard to OSC1 lets one play a melody, while OSC2 maintains a steady pitched low pulsing drone.. Also in the mix are several tracks of pedal tones from DC-2E to thicken up the sound. Sawtooth waveforms were used throughout."
