"This is just something very simple that I jotted down in Nave whilst travelling a couple of weeks ago. All the video footage was recorded using an iPhone 5, and is also from the same trip. All sounds were made from scratch, using samples of household objects as custom waveforms in Nave. No additional effects were used, and the video was constructed on the iPad using Pinnacle Movie Studio."

New Ninstruments Star Wars Tractor Beam 12 Eurorack Module, May the Force be With You!

via Ninstrument

"It’s not every year we get a new Star Wars movie and considering how much the first ones influenced me I had to do something to show my appreciation. I borrowed the electronics from the ‘Sounds of Star Wars’ book and added a backlight to the LCD screen and CV controls for the buttons. So, every time I want to feel like a kid I can patch away!

Includes 256 sounds from the first six movies. Plenty for me to get the FORCE on:)"

Rytmik Ultimate for iPad Now Available

The walkthrough video went up on Tuesday. The app is now available. Full details via iTunes:

Rytmik Ultimate - CINEMAX

"Rytmik is a powerful pocket music station allowing you not only to play with samples and musical instruments but also to mix them together, shape them and create music clips or tracks for your Friday night set-list.

Thanks to new features, Rytmik Ultimate takes music creation to a whole new level. Rytmik allows you to share your songs with other users through the Rytmik Cloud and can also serve as a music player for songs uploaded on Rytmik Cloud with it. On top of that, users can exchange their songs and cooperate on their composing.

Another new feature, which is also the most desired one among fans, is exporting and saving music to a local storage. Once your work is complete, you can save it in WAV format.

And that’s not all! Every instrument is now a wavetable synthesizer. With the advanced effect module, you have more power to shape sounds with the ADSR envelope, vibrato, portamento, noise shaper, or digital delay. In addition to that, the drawable waveform synth module allows users to draw and modify their own wave and use it as a sample oscillator – with that you can use Rytmik Ultimate as a sonically unique chiptune synthesizer.

Rytmik Ultimate comes with a sound library of more than 750 instruments containing the libraries of the previous Rytmik series (Rytmik, Retrobits, Hiphop King and World Music) and adding a brand new set of samples ranging from deep dubstep kicks and basses to cutting synth leads and special effects.

Rytmik Ultimate with Rytmik Cloud will of course include more features and additions to the popular series to enrich your experience with playing with sounds and creating music on the go.

Key Features
- Share your songs via Rytmik Cloud
- Export your music in the WAV format
- More than 750 musical instruments
- A drawable waveform synth module
- Advanced effects like the ADSR Envelope, Digital Delay, Noise Shaper, Sample Offset and Loop Definition and more
- Almost every effect parameter can be modulated via the step sequencer
- Drag&drop powerful interface
- Rytmik Ultimate is a powerful pocket music station."

Percussa announces beta version of SYNTHOR: digital modular synthesizer for AudioCubes

"Los Angeles, CA (USA) December 10, 2015 - Percussa announces the launch of the beta version of SYNTHOR, the digital modular synthesizer application for AudioCubes, its successful modular hardware interface for electronic musicians.

Using SYNTHOR, existing AudioCube users are no longer required to use additional software to make sounds with the AudioCubes, and musicians who haven’t discovered AudioCubes yet now no longer have to MIDI-map synthesizers to the AudioCubes to take advantage of their possibilities.

SYNTHOR is the first software digital modular synthesizer in the world with a dedicated hardware interface, allowing users to patch wirelessly by placing AudioCubes next to each other, and to change synthesis parameters simultaneously, while changing distance between AudioCubes.

SYNTHOR lets you create different configurations of synth modules, which can be saved, recalled and shared with other musicians. Imagine being able to switch modular synth configurations for every song you play live, something that is impossible to do with traditional modular synths.

In SYNTHOR, each AudioCube can be assigned to a synthesizer module (such as oscillator, sampler, LFO, step sequencer, etc). When AudioCubes are placed next to each other, connections between modules are automatically made. For example, by placing 4 AudioCubes around a 5th AudioCube, 4 connections can be instantly made. The more cubes are placed next to each other the more connections are made, all without needing real hardware patch cords.

Distance between the cubes is automatically linked to amplitude of modulation signals. By moving cubes closer to each other or further away from each other or by slightly rotating them relative to each other, the amplitude of the modulation signals can be changed. Additionally, it’s possible to sense distance from the cubes to your hands and use that distance information to change sound synthesis parameters in the modules.

Last but not least, the user automatically receives colour feedback from the cubes when assigning modules to the cubes. For example, an oscillator cube can be yellow while a noise generator can be cyan. The signal outputs of all the modules can also be linked to the brightness of the light of each cube for additional feedback, and it’s possible to mix your own colours and override the default colours.

The SYNTHOR beta is available for download in the download section of the Percussa website, and works with the recently released Percussa Wireless AudioCubes PRO as well with the older Percussa Wireless AudioCubes. SYNTHOR runs inside the MIDIBridge application for AudioCubes and requires no drivers to access the AudioCubes hardware interface. SYNTHOR and MIDIBridge are available free of charge for Mac OSX and Windows.

Percussa is working closely together with artists who provide feedback on this beta version of SYNTHOR, continuously adding more modules and rapidly releasing new versions, all in preparation of the release candidate version which is planned to be announced in the first quarter of 2016. Visit https://www.percussa.com/ to download the software and participate in beta testing.

About Percussa

Percussa makes the AudioCubes, a professional electronic musical instrument and modular MIDI sensor system. AudioCubes are smart wireless cubes, capable of sensing each other’s location, orientation and distance, between each other and to your hands and fingers. In addition to its sensing capabilities AudioCubes feature fully mixable 12 bit colours through their built in RGB LEDs. AudioCubes come with freely available and powerful MIDI control, generative sequencing and digital modular synthesis software inside the MIDIBridge host application.

AudioCubes are being used by professional artists and educators all around the world for sound design, composition, live performance, music (STEM) education, interactive installations and other creative projects. More information about Percussa and AudioCubes at https://www.percussa.com"

New 2015 BugBrand BoardWeevil

The audio demo went up on Tuesday. We now have details on the new BoardWeevil.

via BugBrand:

"Out of production since 2012, one of the BugBrand classics resurfaces afresh for regular production - reconfigured and more powerful than ever, the Board Weevil marries the chaos of the Weevil sonic heart with a powerful Filter to create a truly portable and immersive sonic world.

On the left we have the heart of the Weevil - three lofi Squarewave Oscillators with Pitch dials and 3-way Rate switches. Osc1 can be controlled by an LDR light-sensor, while Oscs 2 & 3 can be synchronised to either of the other oscillators. The Oscs are combined through two quasi Ring-Modulators with blendable Balance control. Power starvation, with LDR control and droopy Stable switch, sends the Weevil core into hedonistic haywires, while a selection of Body Contact points allow tactile play, bridging signals in unexpected battles.

On the right is the State Variable Filter with Resonance up to Self-Oscillation - the Cutoff Frequency can be swept over the full audio range and modulated via the FMod dial from any of the 3 Oscs. The Input Drive can be adjusted down to silence, allowing signals to be jumped over into the Filter Node Body Contact points, while the output can be swept from Low-Pass to High-Pass response.

Sonic output comes either from an transformer-isolated 1/4" Jack socket with Level control, or from an onboard Mini-Speaker with independent Level control - the character of Speaker output is notably different from the line output and allows go-anywhere Weeviling.

The Board Weevil is presented uncased with surface mount circuitry exposed on the underside and measures approx. 5 x 6". Power is from a 9V PP3 Battery (included).

One year parts warranty.

Price: £160 (+ VAT in EU -> £192 inc.) + Shipping"

Jammin the Akai Tom Cat with the Arturia Minibrute & Moog Freqbox, MuRF & MF Drive. With a semi modular synth & three semi modular Moog FX, you can get into some pretty serious patching! Here is how everything is connected. The Tom Cat's Gate out is routed into the Minibrute's Gate in, triggering the arpeggiator. The Gate out of the Minibrute is routed into the Step time/Gate in of the MuRF to keep it in time. The Env CV out of the Freqbox is routed into the Filter CV in of the MF Drive for some spastic filtering FX. The audio of the Tom Cat is going into the MF Drive for crunch & filtering. The audio of the Minibrute is going into the Freqbox then the MuRF. The Pitch CV out of the Minibrute is routed into the Freq in, or pitch CV in. Whew, I think thats it! Enjoy!"

The personal favorite system of Make Noise founder Tony Rolando, this collection of modules is utilized by all artists for the Make Noise Records Shared System Series. It was also utilized by both Alessandro Cortini and Richard Devine for their performances at the 2012 Make Noise Opening party. The Shared System is the deepest and most complex of the Make Noise systems bringing together all of their synthesis techniques into one system. From analog FM to voltage controlled granularization, the Shared System will go to more sound destinations than most folks have time to travel to in a single lifetime.

The CV Bus was originally designed for Alessandro Cortini's personal Make Noise system. It provides visual indication of level, rate and polarity for up to 4 control signals that will be shared throughout a patch. These 4 control signals are color coded and distributed across the center of the system allowing for quick, clean and intuitive patching. The distribution method is unlike the typical multiple since the control signals will appear beneath their possible destinations allowing for the use of shorter patch cables. The color coding and visual indication makes navigating complex patches easier and more intuitive. Typically, the CV Bus would be used to share the most important control signals in a patch such as Master Clock.

The CV Bus also has the tools needed for integrating the Make Noise system with the outside world. A 1/4" Mono input with plenty of gain allows for bringing external signals into the system. The optimal 10Vpp signal level is visually indicated. A high quality Stereo Line Driver converts powerful modular synthesizer signal levels to the commonly used Line Level. There are mini-jack inputs for Left and Right, a single Master Volume control, and a TRS Stereo 1/4" output jack. This output is capable of driving a long cable out to a PA System or a set of Headphones. It has AC coupling and a built-in limiting circuit (with visual indication) that prevents damage to ears and PA system when the patching gets experimental.
