"Included with it is the Doepfer MCV 4 midi to CV converter allowing the SH-09 to be sequenced and triggered externally by anything with a midi out cable. It has an external 1/4 input allowing you to send any other synth through this filter, which makes it great alongside a modular setup."

Roland JP-08 LFOs, EGs and Modulations.

Published on Dec 21, 2015 Robert Shipe

"Second demo of my JP-08. Sequenced by the KORG SQ-1 with Ableton Live. Diving deeper into the JP-08's envelopes, LFOs and modulation routes/options. I use the second VCO as a dedicated sub-oscillator. I run through the LFO shapes and rate as well as the LFO and Envelope mods on the VCOs, VCA and Filter. There is also Key Follow adjustments and some filtering.

There are so many positive points most importantly being the sound. There are two main flaws for me. One, is there is no aftertouch or velocity sensitivity. Two, the filters are not the greatest. Everything else pretty much flows together on the fly. The filter does step on both -12/-24 dB modes. If you kind of dial it in it's fine but great filter-sweeps are not this things strongpoint. Luckily it does have a definite sound to it I like. Great for Pads and Atmospheric stuff. Surprisingly versatile."

Kawai K5m Digital Synthesizer Demo

Published on Dec 21, 2015 Cloudwalk Music

"The Kawai K5 is a digital synthesizer that uses additive synthesis to create tones. The K5 was first released in 1987. Unfortunately, probably because of new ROMpler workstations like the Korg M1 and Roland D-50, the Kawai K5 was quickly forgotten.
In the demo, you'll see and hear the Kawai K5m, which is the rack mount module version.

The K5 creates tones via additive synthesis. Users can manipulate up to 128 individual harmonics. Programming it can seem complicated at first, but there are some shortcuts to working with it.

All of the original sound presets for the factory bank and the external card banks are still available from Kawai for free download.
For more information on the Kawai K5, this is a great resource:

Roland JP-08 Sequencer. Oscillators & Cross Modulation.

Published on Dec 20, 2015 Robert Shipe

"Quick demo of the Roland JP-08's two oscillator waveforms, including VCO two's low-frequency sub-oscillators and cross modulation. I also do some quick mods, PWM and filters. Everything is running internally off the JP's sequencer. This is a very cool little piece of kit with some large sounds. I didn't even go into its LFO or Envelopes amongst so many other things). Great synth."

Isotonik Studios Releases Novation Circuit Editor

via Isotonik

"COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT!?
When the Novation Circuit first got pushed across our desk we just got it, in minutes we had a simple tune up and playing whereas with other synths we’d hit brick walls after an hour of fiddling and then we’d pull the plug on the project without finding that spark of inspiration!

Novation then invited us to their head office in High Wycombe to finish work they’d started in an Max patch that would edit the inbuilt sounds for Synth’s ONE and TWO. It was ground we’d trod before in our work with LaunchSync and the LaunchControl XL Step Sequencer, however nothing would prepare us for how deep this one went…

After a few beta rounds of testing, it became apparent that we could develop something pretty special. We’d need a little more help from the team behind the development of the Circuit though. So after a few lengthy Skype sessions the gauntlet was set down…

We all agreed that we wanted to unlock the potential behind the Circuit and develop an Editor that would allow the user to fine tune or completely reshape the onboard sounds. Novation began by developing the latest firmware based on our requests, then we set about providing bi-directional feedback from the unit to the Editor, the advantage of being able to edit the Factory Settings and save them back to session slots was soon surpassed with the ability to overwrite the patches stored in the Circuits ROM. You got two Nova Synths and a bank of 64 patches to play with so that should be plenty!

VOLTLIFE: DS-M variable trigger response

Published on Dec 21, 2015 voltlife

"The Synthrotek DS-M drum module may only have one CV input, but it responds very dynamically to the amplitude and width of the input trigger. This tutorial shows how you can use this to get much more variety out of the DS-M's percussion sounds without having to manually tweak the knobs all the time."

"This is a rare SIEL OR-400 String Synthesizer from 1982. It is in perfect working condition, but two of the EQ sliders are scratchy. It features a brass, reed, piano, and string section, and has an LFO and a pitch bend and pitch control knob. I do not have the original volume pedal. It really excels in the strings section, if you are looking for murky ethereal David Lynch-esque sounds. The reed section is very combo organ-esque, and the brass section is very 80s (think along the lines of Beverly Hills Cop)."

Synth Rorschach #41 Christmas lights..... or is it a rhythm sequencer

Published on Dec 21, 2015 organfairy

Literally turning a synth rorschach into a working synth device. Be sure to see the Rorschach and Holidays channels below for more posts in each category!

"I found this old telephone exchange device in my garage. I remember buying it quite a while ago. But for some reason I have not used it for something untill now.

I converted it to a kind of drum sequencer somewhat inspired by the Eko Computerhythm from the 1970s and it can control the little drum synthesizer I build some years ago.

The music is "No milk today" that was a major hit by Herman's Hermits in 1966. I play it on my Wersi Prisma DX-5 while the rhythm comes from another distinctive drum machine namely the Wersimatic II."

Interesting. Curious if it has to do with the length of the cable and/or location. Every time I tried this in the past I just got the equivalent of line or ground noise. I'll have to try it again sometime. If you've tried it or have any feedback, feel free to leave a comment in the comments section below.
