Sequence Mixing with the Misa NSC-32

Published on Jan 7, 2016 misadigital

"One of the most important NSC-32 techniques is "sequence mixing". This is when saved sequences / patterns are loaded on to the note grid while the sequencer is playing / live. The NSC-32 can store 768 sequences in permanent storage. A DJ can store the sequences in to preset cells graphically on the grid. This can be done in an organised manner so that, for example, they are visually grouped by track.

Lots of bass in this one :)

NOTE: The illuminated buttons are only looking like that because of the camera.. in real life they are illuminated very evenly! :)"

-CALC- Lep-Cuit Naturale - Novation Circuit and Leploop shake hands firmly

Published on Jan 7, 2016 -CALC-

"I forgot I made this.... ages ago!

It's the wonderful Novation Circuit joining forces with the wonderful Leploop. This track starts from scratch so everything is being made in real time... Circuit makes it an total breeze to do this.

Before a chat with Tonylight (Absolute gentleman, legend and inventor of the Leploop) I didn't even realise that the Leploop worked with a MIDI note input on channel 1.... I've previously just used the MIDI input to clock the internal sequencer but it really opens up musically when the Leploop's synth has a tempered pitch fired into it!

One thing that is missing though is the Leploop's Cassa (kick) drum, I think I must have forgotten to record it.... Even so I think it still sounds interesting without it. Especially the Leploop's Osc FM madness!

Leploop synth is being sequenced by Synth 1 sequencer from Circuit but the noise hi-hats and (not heard Cassa) are internally sequenced. Circuit is on drum duties and the Synth 2 bass line at the end, it also sometimes doubles the Leploop part on Synth 1.
MIDIClock is coming from Circuit."

Ensoniq SQ80 / ESQ1 iPad Editor for MIDI Designer Pro

You'll find the free template here. You'll find MIDI Designer Pro here.

A quick note from the creator of the template: "This was created with MD Pro 1.7.0. Since I only own the SQ80 I've not been able to test it for the ESQ1. However, if I'm not mistaken, the main difference between the two is the additional oscillator waveforms available in the SQ80. I'd expect the ESQ1 to ignore values outside the normal range, but if it causes problems they can be easily deleted from the list. I can say with certainty that it will NOT work with the ESQm as the addressing of parameters is different..."

EMS' Peter Zinovieff on New Midi Controller "Touché" by Expressive E Coming to NAMM

Peter Zinovieff talks about modern musical interfaces

Published on Jan 6, 2016 Expressive E

"The inventor of one of the most famous synthesisers of all the time, the VCS3, talks about Expressive E' s new musical interface..."

And some info directly in via a contact at Expressive E:

"I work for a young company named « Expressive E», located in Paris.

We are developing a new kind of musical controller named « Touché » which will be unveiled for the first time at the NAMM SHOW 2016.

Touché, is an innovative controller, a revolution in how you play with software and hardware synthesizers by offering extremely precise and sensitive gesture controls.

Its wood surface was designed to react to the smallest vibration, the slightest pressure of your hand, allowing synth players to shape sounds spontaneously as with an acoustic instrument.

A great number of artists (Adrian Utley (Portishead), John Baggott (Massive Attack, Robert Plant) , Rone, Matt Robertson (Björk), Peter Zinovieff, etc.) already agree on the fantastic potential of this product : Touché appears as a breath of fresh air in the world of MIDI controllers!"

Update: Expressive E will be at NAMM booth #4807 for those attending.

You'll find a PDF of the Media kit here, captured to the left as JPEGs starting with the second image down.

Werk that Mother - Moog Mother 32, Werkstatt, EMX1, Microbrute, Roland Space Echo

Published on Jan 6, 2016 Earmonkey Music

"I'm continuing with my Synth Jam Journal. Maybe 20 minutes or so of getting in the groove, then hit the record button. And play. It's quite therapeutic and a helluva lot of fun. The pretty lights are awesome too.

The Mother 32 is quite a thing. Even simple patches can really get it going. It doesn't sound to me as balls out as some of the Moogs I've heard, but I don't think it's trying to be one of those.

Hope you enjoy."

Hardfloor - Acperience 1 (Freebass 383 cover)

Published on Jan 7, 2016 tiergrinder

"My adaptation from Hardfloor's classic track Acperience 1.

Freebass FB383 was one of the first synths I ever bought, over 15 years ago. I remember back in the day when I tried to cover some hardfloor tunes and tweaked its knobs for hours. Never got the tunes quite rights but it sure was fun :)

Its been years and it was time to revisit my favourite acid synth jam song. I recorded this song in several takes. All the 303 lines are one long tweak and recorded live from start to finish.

This adaptation is not 100% true to the originals greatness. I didn't manage to replicate the chords even though I got the synth sound pretty close.

Main bassline : SH101
303 arp line : FB-383
303 main line : FB-383
Chord synth : SH01 Gaia
Drums : MB-808 and TR-707
Additional 909 Crash symbals and claps are 909 samples.

Delays and distortion added in Ableton live.
I used Ableton's own Overdrive audio effect on 303 lines."

Free Online Roland Boutique JP-08 Editor & Patch librarian

And online, web based, editor and librarian for the Roland JP-08. I'd save your patches locally just to be safe long term, but the ability to save them online could be interesting. They plan on a public patch library so you can share your patches with others and check out other people's patches.

Details via breadandbuttersounds:

"The editor uses the Web MIDI API. Please read the instructions below before you use it.

Features:
Bi directional communication with your Roland Boutique JP-08 using Sysex (Important! please see below for setting it up)
Precision editing of all parameters. Use the sliders of your JP-08, the sliders on the web page or enter the exact value for a parameter manually (you will notice that the sliders on the JP08 in itself are quite inexact so an editor like this is necessary for serious patch making)
When you change patch or press Manual on your JP-08 the patch is automatically uploaded to the editor
See parameters and learn from your favorite factory presets
Easy access of important features like the Delay, Portamento and Bend Range
You can save your patches if you log in using a Google Account
A public patch browser utility is planned once we have gathered a number of patches that users are willing to share

Instructions/how to make it work:
Web MIDI is not widely supported yet. The editor will probably only work in Chrome and on a computer (no mobile units).
You must allow sysex access for the web page
The editor will NOT work with the USB connection to the JP-08. (Because no sysex is transmitted over USB with the current JP08-firmware) You must use a separate MIDI interface (5 pole DIN) for both input and output.
You must set up your JP-08 in chain mode if you want it to transmit patches and slider movements. ([Manual] + [9] and then [2] - please see the JP-08 manual)
Consider the current version of the editor as a beta version (only tested on Chrome in Windows 8.1 and Mac OS X 10.9.5 so far). Please e-mail info@breadandbuttersounds.com for bug reports and suggestions
Breadandbuttersounds is not responsible for lost presets, other effects or damage on your JP-08 or other equipment by using the editor.

Run the editor here!"
