Introducing the ISLA Instruments KordBot

ChordBot - A quick teaser Published on Jan 15, 2016 ISLA Instruments

"While we are producing the full video for the KickStarter campaign launching in mid Feb 2016, we thought we'd take a couple of minutes out to have some fun with ChordBot and tease you with a couple of it's features!."

A few details and images sent in via ISLA Instruments:

"Chordbot is a midi controller device that gives the user 1000s of chords at their fingertips, to play directly into any midi capable device over midi, usb, and also bluetooth. The keys also illuminate the fingerings of chords so it teaches the user how to play chords for themselves. It's also a full featured arpeggiator with many different modes and a 32 step sequencer."

"This is a heavily modified version of the Alesis HR-16 drum machine from the late 80s/90s. I have developed my own custom PCB board to house all the modifications I carry out and to keep the design clean and robust.

I will also consider swaps/trades for gear that interests me, dead or alive.. ask me... :)

Most notable features added are:
Ability to quickly replace sound bank chips using the quick release sockets mounted to the top of the unit (compatible with any of the soundbanks I have in my other listings)
Full LTC1799 Pitch Modification, allowing you to change the overall pitch of the whole machine (can go SUUUUUPER slow (a snare can last around 7seconds) ) and also around 20% higher in pitch. It's also worth noting that all sounds can individually pitched/tuned also as standard. It makes for great turntable style slow downs etc.

Updatable STEREO DSP FX System, including Low and High Pass filters, Bitcrush, reverb, delays etc. Used in conjunction with the multiple outputs makes the machine super powerful. Endless fun or just use it to make the sounds a little dirtier..

Gorgeous solid walnut side panels really set the look of the machine off.

Dork 14 melodies. A 90 BPM patch for eurorack modular synthesizer.

Published on Jan 15, 2016 Luke Killen

"A short and simple melodic track jammed from a patch that i made today. The melodies and bass drum are kept simple to offset the complex percussive elements.
Part i: A Mutable Instruments Braids running through two channels of a Sputnik Quad VCF/VCA and is pitch sequenced by a makenoise Rene.

Part ii: Hi-pass output of an Epoch Modular Benjolin with it's VCO A modulated heavily by a SSF Ultra-Random Analogue set to a very high rate and output level (white noise). MakeNoise Maths is acting as a voltage controllable EG for this part and has it's rise and fall modulated by a 4ms PEG that has it's division modulated by an LFO from an Abstract DATA ADE32. the triggers from this are coming from two channels of a Delphtronics Triggerman as well as a 4MS QCD which is modulated by one channel of the 4MS PEG. these three trigger sources are switch between one and other using a Doepfer A151 voltage controlled switch.

part iii: a kick drum made with a Noise engineering Basimilus Iteratus with it's pitch being modulated by a Frequency central envelope X set to a very short attack and decay.

Part iv: A melodic plink made from a WMD/SSF Spectrum passed through a Doepfer A106-5 SEM LPF filter modulated in frequency by a Tiptop Z4000 EG which also modulates the Linix VCA that it passes through.

Part v: A textural sample playing on a Music Thing Radio Music. the sample has the start cropped off it to become more textural than percussive.

Reverb and Delay are applied as needed per voice in my DAW as the audio comes in live."

playing around with the eminent 1600 orchestra organ

Published on Jan 15, 2016 grauoliv

"Okay, so here is my second organ from eminent, netherlands. It's the 1600 orchestra, with a detailled string organ section. '8, '4 and '8 sustain for upper and lower keyboard, '16 and '8 for the pedal. And also string ensemble for the accompaniment section. Very sad, by now the string section is broken. I have an endless note when turning it up ... :-(
As my home has already one organ, this one stands in my office. It must have gotten wet sometime over the years, so it's also a littel bit stinky ...."

Thingamagoop 3000 Update From Bleep Labs

via Bleep Labs

"The stickers and PCB are almost ready! Just need to order one last test of each and it’ll be off to assembly.

The last revision of the board works and sounds great but the controls need to be moved around slightly so we need to do one more prototype.
The stickers have been a surprising amount of trouble but after 6 proofs we’ve finally got the colors we’ve been after.

By the end of the month we’ll have the final images online so you can pick your color combos!

This shouldn’t put us too far behind the original schedule as most of the work is machining enclosures in house and that can begin next week."

"Happy new year all ! :)

Well, thing is... i tried to record this track like 5 times.. i got cracks and buzzes and timing issues, and it just got later and later and all of a sudden i was a bit buzzy (due to the beer). So what you hear is the 6th take... all the other takes suck (big time) so not publishing them.. also im going to need a new mixer, because recording a track several times and not being able to use it really sucks.

However, inspiration for this track comes from an email i received from a stranger... who i hope is getting better now. BoooM-tchakK to you my friend !

As always, no computers and stuff, all is recorded live straight into 2-track. I hope you can enjoy it !

Slow Light Theory

Published on Jan 15, 2016 S. B. Arweiler

"Ambient eurorack jam

The main chord is a sample played by the MusicThing RadioMusic (a single guitar string that was sent through the EHX POG 2 pedal). This sample is sent through the Erbe-Verb with modulation of the size parameter through a sequence playing on Brains/Pressure Points.

MakeNoise STO receives FM modulation from the TipTop Z3000, attenuated by Intellijel uVCA II which is opened by a Intellijel Quadra LFO. René X and Y gates trigger Quadra envelopes for STO and Mutable Instruments Braids, QCV goes to STO 1V/oct, CV goes to Braids 1V/oct. STO is sent through Mutable Instruments Clouds.

Some manual triggering of the Basimilus Iteratis via Pressure Points.

All clocks are provided by TipTop Circadian Rhythms. Evaton Technologies RF Nomad provides some noisy shortwave radio at the end which is modulated by a fast Maths LFO."

Prodyssey ASB Creamware, using as an old modular synthesizer, with Beatstep Arturia.

Published on Jan 15, 2016 KurtzMindfields

"Demo (1/3) of the great emulation of the ARP Odyssey, the creamware ASB can do many things (polyphonic synth, lead mono synth, with memories and internal effects ...), but at first we are expected to get that particular ARP sound and philosophy approach! lets see as a typical old ARP modular sequenced synth!? Well after working with, i can saying that his doing well the job!"

Kind of interesting when you look at the different sections of the panel as different modules, which essentially they are. A standalone synth is just a bunch of modules patched together. What makes a modular a modular is being modular. :) Meaning... You can swap modules about, in and out, to create different systems. Because you have to patch discrete modules together, all the inputs and outputs for modulation then add to that.

Dreadbox Hades and Erebus Synths - Quite the Team

Published on Jan 15, 2016 ProckGnosis

"A demo showing the Dreadbox Hades Bass Synth married up to and running through the Dreadbox Erebus Synth and filter. For me, the two work quite well together, with the Hades nicely complementing the Erebus, giving you the extra benefits of:
1. A third oscillator to do paraphonic 3-note chords
2. A third Oscillator to fatten up your mono leads and basses
3. A variable PW waveform (for folks who own the Erebus first edition, which has no PW capability)
4. Two sub oscillators

All of that combined makes for one aggressive, mix-cutting analog synth that is a definite pleasure to play. Cheers!"
