NAMM 2016 Tom Oberheim presents the OB-6 Synthesizer

Published on Jan 22, 2016 Kraft Music

http://www.kraftmusic.com

"Legendary synth designer and audio engineer Tom Oberheim presents the OB-6 polyphonic synthesizer at NAMM 2016.

Introducing OB-6, a collaboration between synth pioneers Dave Smith, and Tom Oberheim. The OB-6 is a new 6-voice synthesizer with an all-analog signal path and discrete VCOs and filters. The full-size, four-octave, semi-weighted keyboard is velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive and houses a sound engine inspired by Oberheim’s original SEM, which was also the core of his acclaimed 4-voice and 8-voice synthesizers. This new instrument is designed to provide true, vintage SEM tone with the stability and flexibility of modern technology."

"This patch is limited to what I could potentially power with a dotcom QPS2, which only has leads for 8 modules. Here is what I came up with: two dotcom Q106 VCOs, a Fritz Teezer VCO (by Free State FX), the MOTM 480 (which has a built in 3 channel mixer), a Grove Audio dual VCLFO/VCA, a dotcom Q109 envelope generator, a Grove dual joystick, the dotcom Q171 quantizer bank, and dotcom multiples (passive, of course). Reverb and delay are Valhalla Vintage Verb and Ubermod."

"If your reading this you know how amazing this synth is. 100% working. The Trilogy has some of the most beautiful analogue strings you will hear and a full synthesiser section which can be mixed with the strings to create stunning analogue soundscapes. There is also an organ section which can also be mixed with the other sections for big analogue stacks of sound.
This Trilogy is in very good cosmetic condition with all buttons present, all sliders work as they should and all dials turn smoothly with no static noise etc - There is some very minor blemish to the wooden end cheeks, but they are still in very good condition.

The real gem of this synth is without a doubt the rich and vibrant analogue strings and the lovely synth section."

Audulus 2 Minute Tip - 7: How to Make a Random Sample & Hold

"Yearning to harness chaos? A Random node through a Sample and Hold node is just what you're looking for! Each pulse from the LFO is like a snapshot in time - use the output to modify other effects (really wonderful on filters).

The 2 Minute Tip series breaks apart topics on Audulus into bite-sized chunks. I don't talk during the tutorials (though there are a few notes that pop up), and this is so that international viewers who don't understand English well don't feel left out. Familiarize yourself with the node menu and my navigation won't be so mystifying. In the future, we'll develop a finger press indicator so you can see where I'm tapping.

Korg Minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer First Go

Published on Jan 22, 2016 The Galaxy Electric

"This is the unboxing of and my initial go at using Korg's brand new Minilogue Polyphonic Synthesizer. This is a four voice analog polysynth with a BBD-style delay. It sounds fantastic and allows you to store 200 patches. It also has a 16 step sequencer storable per patch that allows you to store your melodic ideas and parameter automations to remind you of what you had in mind stylistically for the patch in addition to its tone. This will serve as my main keyboard-style synth in The Galaxy Electric. It's analog, allows for a decent amount of patch storage, and it has a built-in beautiful sounding delay which is typically my go to effect for the kind of synth work I do. I am a fan and found its timing to be very serendipitous."

"No visit to NAMM is complete without a stop at the booth of Big City Music. There were familiar faces and instruments, but a few new things as well.

The Mellotron micro is the latest in the Mellotron series. It’s small and compact, and with an expected price $800-$1000 USD it’s more affordable than the others in the series (although still quite pricey).

Among them was the RK2 XSVCA. It’s not just a VCA, but has distortion, feedback and out-of-phase outputs among other features. The marketing material is everything we have come to know and love from Metasonix."

Audio Damage Introduces New BOOMTSCHAK, DUB JR MK2, & Stomp Boxes

via Analog Industries. The following covers the new products. Click through for some additional thoughts from Audio Damage's Chris Randall on NAMM itself.

"Day One of NAMM is in the books, and we've unveiled our four new hardware products. First up is ADM14 BoomTschak (or 'BT,' as we call it. We're hip to brevity at AD.) This is our first 100% analog product. Not a single line of code. Our motivation was to create a quality high-end analog drum voice, and I think we hit this one out of the park. Accent and choke inputs, a stonking self-resonant multi-mode filter of our own design, three envelopes with curve controls, and a waveshaper give this thing a wide palette. It is a real bruiser, and since it will join Sequencer 1 at the top of our ecosystem, you'll be seeing a lot of it here and in my Instagram feed. We haven't got all the quotes in yet, so we're not 100% on what it's going to cost, but we feel like $450 is attainable, despite the ludicrous parts count. (It has 16 knobs on it, for the love of all that is holy.) We should be shipping these in about 6-8 weeks.

This little fella is DubJr Mk2. It's basically DubJr, at a much higher build quality, and with all the features that people have asked for since the original was released. (Was it 4 years ago? Wow.) Tap tempo, clock input, selectable "free" or "jump" times, and a feedback loop cover all your clocked delay needs, in a 6HP package. Like all of our 6HP effects, this will be $289, and will be shipping in about 3 weeks.

Aaaaand ADP01 Fluid and ADP02 Freqshift. These are stereo guitar pedals. They have true analog bypass, assignable expression pedal destination, and custom laser-cut steel chassis. Having done my time on stage, I know what a bullet-proof pedal needs to be able to take, and these are as tough as they come. ADP01 Fluid is a direct descendant of our super thick 6-delay chorus in our Fluid plugin, with the alterations present in the ADM11 Dimensions Eurorack module. (There already is a Dimensions pedal, so we just named it what it is, Fluid.)

ADP02 Freqshift is a derivation of our original Freqshift module, with alterations for the stereo guitar pedal context. I have never personally really bothered with frequency shifting as an effect in my music, so I was unprepared for what this thing can do. Adam did a hell of a job with the DSP on this one, and it is a super useful and unique effect that can go from the widest, deepest stereo phaser you've ever heard on up to insane screeching and pure industrial craziness. Every guitar player that came to our booth yesterday went "holy shit..." when I kicked that bitch on.

These will be shipping in about 5 weeks, theoretically, but as this is our first foray in to pedal manufacturing, we're approaching it with some caution. I'd rather they took a little more time and we got them absolutely right. So we'll see how that plays out. These will be $290 each."
