via the seller: "This has some custom work done by myself. I replaced the stock blue plastic for a clear poly-carbonate one for easier LCD reading. Take a look at the pictures. I feel it looks better. I also installed custom color matching soft rubber knobs for each synth section. The sliders were also upgraded with modern alpha sliders for longer lifespan usage. I prefer white indicators then the fader caps. There is less chance of breaking the sliders now with this upgrade."

Adventures in Synthesis: "I IV V" drone

Published on Feb 19, 2016 Chris Beckstrom

"More about this project:
www.chrisbeckstrom.com/portfolio/diy-modular-synthesizer/

An exercise/improvisation with a drone. Some of the biggest and most epic sounds I've created with the modular yet. At times it sounds like a distorted guitar through a stack of amps, but it's just a bunch of square wave oscillators.

Patch notes:
The main sound is a square oscillator into a clock divider (generating multiple octaves) and then four of those octaves go into the four inputs of a sequential switch. The sequential switch is clocked by another oscillator that can go from audio rates all the way down to clicks (very slow).

When the sequential switch is clocked at audio rates it sounds sort of like frequency modulation, and depending on the clock speed you get various intervals and timbres. I don't really understand why this happens, but I discovered I could create various chord-type sounds by changing the clock speed.

The output of the sequential switch is mixed with one of the other divider outputs (very low suboctave) and a couple higher octave sounds going through semi-randomly-opened VCAs.

All that stuff gets a splash of delay, two channels into the mixer for some spring reverb, then into Bitwig running on Linux. I'd love to hear this on some really big speakers– on my little monitors it shakes the whole basement!"

The filter cutoff is being modulated with a 1023 VCO which I'm using as a LFO.
I'm also using an envelope and some random voltages to modulate the LFO speed.

"Spectral Maths (4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator vs Make Noise Maths)

A self-playing patch with two modules.

Inspired by the title of my randomly titled video “Spectre Maths” I thought it should be fun to let those two modules talk to each other. So here’s a CV conversation with the 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator and Make Noise Maths.

Gear used:
- 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator (SMR)
- Make Noise Maths
- EHX Cathedral pedal (some reverb added in mixer)"

Rob Papen ports popular RG guitar groove plug-in to Reason as remarkable Rack Extension

"ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce availability of RG-RE — a Rack Extension platform-compatible version of its unique RG guitar groove plug-in for Swedish world-class software product developer Propellerhead’s popular music-making application Reason — as of February 19...

When Propellerhead first introduced its revolutionary Rack Extensions concept — custom-built plug-ins for Reason, Rob Papen himself promptly pronounced it as being “...a brilliant concept, continuing: “Clearly, what we face as a developer is having to have a PC version and a Mac version, and if you run them in your regular host, you can crash your host. That’s a real big battle. People, if they use Reason, learn that things are connected. It’s cross-platform; everything works. It’s a major leap forward for Reason, and productions coming out of Reason will sound totally different. Reason remains Reason, but, now, it’s open.”

With RG, Rob Papen’s unique guitar groove plug-in proving popular in its own right, the Dutch developer is no stranger to sounding totally different to the many run-of-the-mill virtual instruments out there. That it has been given the Reason Rack Extension treatment to (re)emerge at an even more affordable price as RG-RE is a shrewd musical move. More users than ever can now enjoy its musical moves by blending them seamlessly in the Reason rack. Load them in Combinators, route (virtual) cables on the back, automate all parameters, and experiment with the safety of undo... what’s not to like here?

To the untrained eye (and ear) RG and its RG-RE Rack Extension ‘spin-off’ might both look like one-trick ponies, ploughing the same narrow musical path. Put aside any preconceptions, though, for the RG concept extends way beyond being a ‘virtual’ guitar player. Indeed, RG-RE does what it does — creating classic rhythm guitar grooves using its onboard SEQ (sequencer) as well as utilising several synthesizer features (including a classic analogue-modelled filter, LFO, envelopes, and modulation section) and effects section (that can be built by using up to three effects at a time from the included MIDI time-based delays, chorus, speaker simulators, phaser, flanger, and much more besides) to create fresh and edgy guitar grooves — just like RG before it! Little wonder, then, that RG is loved so much by so many producers worldwide!

Select and play grooves galore within"

Sounds from Neutron Sound Orgone Accumulator

Published on Feb 19, 2016 William Mathewson

"WMD recently had the pleasure of working with Jim Matheson of Neutron sound to bring his popular DIY oscillator, the Orgone Accumulator to the retail module market. We helped with the development and manufacturing of the Orgone and are so excited that it is finally available to the Eurorack community as a fully built, retail product.

We made this video out of 30 minutes of footage. Tyler and Alex are just sweeping through the sounds and timbres created by tweaking the knobs on the Orgone.

All tech aside, the purpose of this video is to get the SOUND of the Orgone Accumulator out to the world. Take a seat, and listen."

"The Jupiter 6 is an incredible analog synthesizer. The Jupiter series is known for their unique sound, which is unlike any other synthesizer!! This originality comes from the classic analog Roland filter, modulation capabilities and a fat cluster of 12 analog oscillators at 2 per voice. A very easy to use thing with amazing tweaking capabilities.

What makes this unit even more appealing is its MIDI, allowing you to sync this classic synth with your favorite DAW. The Europa Firmware by Synthcom Systems Inc. provides even more stable MIDI. The Europe Firmware also features an extensive arpeggiator, which will sync to MIDI clock."
