Buchla MARF Test Two

Published on Apr 6, 2016 Todd Barton

"This first section uses the speed and pitch of the MARF driving a 259/281/292 combination. When pitch sliders are engaged they reveal a formant type sound.

The second section uses just a 5 step sequence. Top sliders = pitch; Bottom sliders = timing. An I am further modifying the timing manually to produce different accent patterns/repetitions. The first patch cord goes from the timing CV to the Keyboard In on the Principal 259. The next patch cord goes from the pitch CV to the CV In of the Principal 259."

New England Analog NEA-4019 Eurorack VCA 24-Track Demo

Published on Apr 6, 2016 New England Analog LLC

"This video features 24 tracks of the NEA 4019 discrete VCA module for eurorack. The tracks were recorded using an ARP 2600 with an NEA 4019 VCA as the final output VCA. All vibrato was generated using aftertouch to control the 4019 output. The "synth brass" section at the end was recorded using a Yamaha BC-1 Breath Controller to control the 4019.

The NEA-4019 has separate linear and exponential CV inputs, which allow for unique VCA envelopes that can be smooth or punchy. The 4019 can also be used to process control voltages, as well as audio signals.

The drums in this recording are all using the exponential CV inputs on the 4019. The drum tones themselves are a combination of sine waves and white noise from the 2600.

All sounds came from the 2600 and were amplified using the NEA-4019 module. All vibrato, tremolo, and breath articulation was done using the NEA-4019 to process CV signals."

via NE Analog:

"The NEA-4019 is a clone of the ARP 4019 VCA found in the ARP 2600. This discrete VCA design is exactly the same as the original ARP design with the exception of the matched transistor pairs being upgraded to Analog Devices SSM2220 and SSM2212s. The output opamp is a higher quality opamp than the ones used in the original 4019 modules.

The module is 8U in Eurorack format and includes a 10 Pin power connector ribbon cable. There are 2 audio inputs, a linear CV input, an exponential CV input, and an audio output. All input and output jacks have attenuators.

This unit is currently being built to order. Each NEA-4019 order will ship in approximately 3 weeks."

The Pulse that Simply Arrived

Published on Apr 6, 2016 Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"The magic of working with a modular synth set up is the utterly unexpected. The pulse simply 'appeared' when setting up the system today and within minutes this live recording was born. It's dark, cinematic and exploratory and hope you might enjoy it. Notes on the patch below.

The pulse is from the Harvestman Piston Honda through a Mannequins Three Sisters filter pinged from a Modcon Quad LFO. The textures come from the Harvestman Hertz Donut through the Verbos Electronics Amplitude & Tone, and the Endorphin.es Furthrrr Generator and Verbos Complex Oscillator passing through the TipTopAudio Z-DSP Halls of Valhalla card and Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield. Everything is mixed live through the Intellijel Mutamix Mixer and Intellijel Linix Mixer/VCA and recorded direct to digital input."

Tamzin on Lumen Handpan wrote in to let us know about their electronic Handpan. The video above will tell you what it is. Note it has MIDI output to control external gear. You can support the campaign on Indiegogo here.

"The Lumen is an electronic percussion instrument in the form of a handpan, which provides the unique playing experience of it's acoustic inspiration, with the added benefits that electronics bring. It features built-in amplified speakers, an advanced on-board audio processor and full velocity sensitivity.

We want artists around the world to be able to pick up the instrument, turn it on and play - no need to connect to any other equipment. Being an electronic instrument, you can of course output the audio signal or MIDI messages straight from the Lumen."

"This auction is for a vintage Roland System 100M module 110 which contains a VCO, VCF and VCA. The module works great and the sliders and pots work are smooth. Used in a non-smoking private studio. Features glow in the dark slider caps (technology transplant) and has a completely reversible SYNC mod which was professionally installed. It uses the LOW audio output jack and converts it into an input to sync the VCO frequency. You can then use the VCO mod input to do sync sweeps."
