Make Noise Tempi Tests

Published on Apr 19, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"This is just a couple of quick and simple tests of the Make Noise Tempi. First test was Tempi strumming Mutable Instruments Rings (via the Sputnik Selector) and the second test was Tempi (again, via the Selector) triggering both the Basimilus Iterates and Mutable Instruments Peaks' channel one (kick drum mode.) In-between these two tests is a short interlude because I liked the patch and wanted to capture it on video (had nothing to do with the Tempi.) There is influence and modulation happening via the Richter Wogglebug and Peaks' second channel in LFO mode. Everything is being processed by Mutable's Clouds module... The next video (probably tomorrow evening) will be my first test of the Intellijel Metropolis, and after that, it will be time to get down to serious music making once again; putting all of these elements together (the Eurorack system, the three Moog Mother-32s, the Kilpatrick Audio Phenol, the Elektron Octatrack, etc.)"

Cacti - Modular Performance

Published on Apr 19, 2016 anthony burchell

"This is the Mutable Rings being sequenced by the Antimatter Brain Seed which is being clocked by the metropolis that is controlling the z3000 bass. The elements is getting a copy of the pitch cv from the metropolis and its fm is being modulated by the pressure points going through the Intellijel µscale quantizer."

ContinuuCon 2016 Announced

via Haken Audio

"Continuum Enthusiasts –

ContinuuCon will be June 9-11 in Asheville NC. Asheville is in a beautiful part of the USA, even more amazing than central Illinois where I live. (Here in Illinois we have both kinds of plants, corn *and* soybeans, so central Illinois is pretty cool too, but come here some other time.) If you are unfamiliar with Asheville, check out this short video showing Asheville time-lapsed dawn-to-dusk, and you may be inspired to join us:
http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/north-carolina/asheville-nc-video-time-lapse/

ContinuuCon is being organized by Asheville area Continuum owners, and is sponsored by the Bob Moog Foundation, MakeNoise, and ExperimentalSynth.com. I am really pleased they are doing it – I was not involved in organizing the event, but Ed Eagan and I will drive there to join everyone taking part.

ContinuuCon is not a sales event, and there will be no special announcements or sales hype at ContinuuCon. The idea of ContinuuCon is that we all come together, get to know each other, and learn from each other. I will give a talk/demonstration that will show you much of the process of building a Continuum (including a live demonstration of the Continuum-Playing Lego Robot I use for testing Continuums), and I will show some of the Continuum insides and how explain why the Continuum has all those expensive guts, and I will bring some historical artifacts. But that’s just my talk, there will be lots of other presentations, concerts, and sharing of playing techniques, sound design techniques, and ideas. You will see some new things people are working on, including Ed’s new Surface Shaper he is bringing from Canada, and Christophe’s Wireless Remote he is bringing from France. (Speaking of Christophe, be sure to ask about his experience with Vangelis.)

I am thrilled ContinuuCon is happening. It is all being organized by people that purchased a Continuum and have gotten to like it enough to organize the conference. I can’t express how thankful I am that the Continuum means so much to people.

Thanks,
Lippold

PS: The official website is www.ContinuuCon.com – check it out, then buy your tickets!

PPS: If you want to give a presentation or performance, I don’t know if times are still available, I am not an organizer of this event – but you can email continuucon@gmail.com … If you are one of those Famous Individuals but do not want to give a presentation or performance or talk, that’s fine too, just come lurk!

PPPS: A message from Sally Sparks (of Asheville NC): Don't forget to snag your tickets for ContinuuCon 2016 before the end of the month to ensure the lower rate!"

The PropSynth D Digital 6 Voice DIY Synth

This one spotted and sent in via swissdoc. You can find the project page in German here [archived here] and a Googlish translation here [archive link]. Some info from that translation:

"Hello to all music fans electronics engineers.

After Hammond and Steicherkeyboard simulations based on a Parallax Propeller step to build a synthesizer was the logical consequence.
This new development is a classic polyphonic 6 voice synthesizer to the universally known model: known oscilator filter VCA, geimein as subtractive sound generation.
This time it was not about to emulate a specific synthesizer, but to develop a "normal" tone generator can not be more than many other synths in me - but with a standard processor - which was not designed for this purpose.

features:

2 Ozillatoren per voice / 6 voice polyphony
10 wavetables for Ozillatoren
Filter, (4-pole lowpass, 2-pole lowpass / highpass / bandpass) with resonance
ADSR generator Filterhülkurve
ADSR generator envelope amplifier (VCA)
LFO to filter modulation
LFO for vibrato
Noise generator
diverse chorus effects
Hall device
3-band EQ
"Half-Analog" operation with potentiometers in a parameter matrix
Preset memory, 32 Programs
LED display
Control via Midi Controller
stereo outputs

Controlled by MIDI propeller than enough for a 6 voice polyphony. The motherboard is only 200 * 100mm in size and contains all components inc. The operating element. The single-sided board and is very selbstbau friendly because only components were used which are easy to obtain, SMD components (which we unfortunately can not do without) are installed via adapter, and leave with 1.27mm pin spacing easily solder by hand."

A Synclavier for Max/MSP in the Works

Spotted this one on sequencer.de. Note this appears to be a one man personal project:

"Taymur Streng is working hard on a Synclavier that works on and with Max/MSP. This is still “work in progress” since it is a lot of work for just one person.

Seems like the Synclavier had the following concept on FM, please post if you know it better:

there is one OSC that modulates up to 36 “Harmonics” Oscillators. all of these OSCs have their own frequency and that modulating OSC has a ratio. All of them got an extended 6-parameter-envelope. There are 4 layers available.

there is more synthesis functions like 2 versions of resynthesis (the original has one algorithm). And of course the 36 OSCs are for additive synthesis as well. also there is a simple wavetable concept.

so much for the synth-section (not counting in samples, that are also possible).

I had only a short time on a real Synclavier, so just tell me if there’s something to add or correct. Taymur knows a lot – but we would love input (if helpful).

could take a while,…"
