DSI OB-6 (2016) vs. Oberheim OB-Xa (1981) Analog Synthesizer

I have programmed a few of my favorite OB-Xa sounds on the OB-6 for a comparision video. I used only settings that you can find on both synths.

The OB-6 fx routing is on bypass.

no external fx or compression. You can hear only the raw sound from both synths."

"The unit works perfectly and sounds great. The reverb sounds haunting and the synth delivers a great tone. The case was purchased from synthcube and features a clear satin finish with rubber feet.

The sliders have the lights disabled and enameled white as a custom modification. This also means that the synth only draws around 200ma, making it able to run on very low power and still delivering a full, rich (and loud) tone."

Korg Minilogue analog sounds by Harlem Nights

Published on May 20, 2016 harlemnightsmusic

"Just got this very nice synth! Some additional stereo delay from my Roland SRE-555, and some master compression.

Some little ideas based on classic 80s tracks of My Mine, Gary Numan, Patrick Cowley and Bobby O. The last melody is the intro of a very old track of me called "Pet Symphony", I composed that on a Casio SK1 sampler.

Affectionately, I think the Minilogue often sounds like a sometimes noisy 80s radio cassette tape recording of a vintage analog synth. Its ease of use and portability may make you sound even better."

This time we made some beats with the Qu-Bit Electronix - Tri-Ger hitting some Mutant Drums from Hexinverter and the Tiptop Audio - CYMBL909. The triggers were delayed with the Steady State Fate - Propagate. We added some (tube) warmth to the audio signal path with the Erica Synths - Fusion Mixer V2, which we attenuated a bit befor sending it to our current favourite DSP module, the Erica Synths - Black Hole DSP.

Clawtar - Adaptive MIDI Controller for the iPad & ChordUp for iPhone & iPad

Published on May 15, 2016 Dmitry Klochkov

Spotted this one on discchord. The above goes through a number of quick demo videos of the Clawtar followed by ChordUp. Don't miss the Game of Thrones demo in video 8. The following is the info on both apps via iTunes.

iTunes: Clawtar - Adaptive MIDI Controller - Dmitry Klochkov

"Clawtar is a musical instrument and MIDI controller with adaptive interface.

The biggest problem with all virtual musical instruments is the almost complete lack of tactile reference.
You have to constantly control your performance with your eyes to make sure your fingers go to the right places.

This aproach is not very good for two reasons. Firstly, vision is much slower than audio and tactile perceptions.

Secondly, the process of continuous analysing of visual information is very resource intensive for your brain.

As a result, it is very hard to feel relaxed and concentrate on the music during a performance.

So how can we solve this problem?

Instead of trying to adapt to an instrument we can make the instrument to adapt to the player!

Clawtar's adaptive interface allows you to position your hands and fingers in the most natural and comfortable way.
After choosing your position, you can play by moving only your fingers, with your hands completely relaxed.
This approach minimizes the need of visual control, allows you to leverage your muscle memory, and gives your brain more time to think about the music you are playing.

FEATURES

• Adaptive interface
• Chromatic scale
• 4+ octaves range (8+ with octave shift buttons)
• Pitch-bend control
• Modulation control
• Volume control
• Repeat button (allows to play same note multiple times faster)
• Transposition (allows to change root note)
• 9 built-in sounds.
• Virtual MIDI and Wi-Fi MIDI output."

iTunes: ChordUp - Dmitry Klochkov

"ChordUp is a chord musical instrument and MIDI controller for live performance.

With more than 100 available chords you can play almost any song spontaneously without any pre-configuration.

Play easily any chord pattern: full chords, bass and chord, strumming, arpeggios, power chords, etc.

Control your favorite synthesizer or sampler though MIDI.

Click 'Developer Website' link to see demo videos.

For a detailed review visit http://www.musicappblog.com/chordup-review/

FEATURES

• 108 available chords (9 chord types for each of the 12 notes).
• 10 embedded instruments: Acoustic Piano, Electric Piano, Guitar, Organ, Accordion, Vibraphone, Strings, 3 synth sounds.
• 12 pads surface (for long arpeggios, bass, bass and chord patterns)
• 6 strings surface (for guitar strumming, power chords and arpeggios)
• Expression pad surface (allows to play full chord and control an expression parameter at the same time)

• Buttons size adjustment on iPad.
• Virtual MIDI and Wi-Fi MIDI support."
