Novation Circuit Sample Flip Out

Published on Aug 17, 2016 HardtekStudios

"Finally updated my Circuit to 1.3 and the new Sample Flip function is awesome! Here is an extreme example on what you can do using only four drum tracks while taking advantage of the Sample Flip mode. This was not rehearsed, nor was there any processing outside of the Circuit. I also still don't remember what sample is on what pad, so the jam is pretty raw. Hope you enjoy!"

Single Channel Test on Novation Circuit

Published on Aug 17, 2016 pselodux

"Here's a quick experiment; I got the idea from my nanoloop work—and chiptunes in general—where one channel can handle a lot of different sounds at once.

Some notes:
The parameter changes aren't quite as instant as I thought they'd be, so I've tried to hack it by adjusting some of the parameters on the step before they're supposed to sound in full. This does result in some "leaks", but it's an interesting effect :D

The custom patch for this can be found here:
http://0f.digital/files/dynamo.syx

Macro controls are as follows:
1: at 0, enable melodic sound osc 2; 1–127 is for bassdrum/percussion osc 1, with varying amounts of pitch envelope modulation
2: Noise level, for snare
3: Cutoff for noise/osc 2
4: Resonance and filter envelope amount for noise/osc 2
5: Amplitude decay/release
6: Wave index for osc 2—analog tri/saw preset
7: Ring mod amount
8: Chorus level"

Tiptop Audio Z DSP with Custom Black Panel

via this auction

"This Z-DSP is fully functional and in Mint condition. Included are the Dragon Fly Delay and Halls of Valhalla Cartridges.
Fitted with a custom black panel. Original panel is included as well.

The Z-DSP is an open-source, cartridge-based, digital sound processing and generating platform for your modular synthesizer. The Z-DSP has a stereo DSP processor with 24-bit sampling, 15khz of bandwidth, smooth voltage controlled parameters, and has the ability to be programmed - all in a Eurorack format. While the Z-DSP cannot compete with the processing power found on personal computers, it does provide direct control of the DSP hardware and has a unique set of features aimed at the manipulation of digital effects. With the Z-DSP, digital audio can be bent, stretched, deformed, and distorted by interacting with your modules; something personal computers just can't do.

The Z-DSP interface includes VC digital parameters, VC Mix/Dry, manual and sequential program switching, and a pair of VC feedback loop paths with exposed patch points that let you insert the rest of your modular into the DSP process. The Z-DSP lets you go far beyond ordinary processing, breaking the rules and allowing you to patch right into the heart of the DSP chip through the clock input, allowing for some digital madness and creative sound design.

Touchplate Keyboard demo 2

Published on Aug 17, 2016 Randy Piscione

Almost had Close Encounters going there.

"Bit of improv on some Eurorack stuff. The Verbos Touchplate keyboard is tricky to play like a piano player but fun to play as a sort of percussion thing. The first bit of noodling uses the top squares to play the Phenol and then the bass, which is a single Befaco Even VCO sine running into an Abstract Data Reactive Shaper. 3 different LFOs modulate the three CV inputs of the Reactive Shaper. Gives a nice growl to a single sine. There is no filter. A Ladik EG, Ladik VCA and Bastl ABC finish things off. After showing the individual sounds, the Anushri drums are brought in."

Pocket Operator Hip Hop with Yamaha Reface CP - PO-14 Sub, PO-20 Arcade

Published on Aug 17, 2016 Matt Greer

"Funky Electro Hip Hop beat produced with Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators (PO-14 & PO-20) and the Yamaha Reface CP.

'Faxt' by Robots Against Children

Hi all,

So I was sitting in my office/studio faxing a stack of papers to some folks that are helping me buy my new house. The fax was taking forever so I grabbed my little PO-14 Sub and starting writing little beats. The fax got through but I didn't notice because I just kept right on jamming and in time, worked out this chain of patterns.

I then grabbed the PO-20 Arcade with the hopes of adding some leads or drones but the 8-bit sound just wasn't mixing right so all it ended up supplying was the hi-hat.

Then I ran the output of both into my Yamaha Reface CP's "aux" input and just put together a few vibey leads to pull it together. Then I'm outputting from the headphone jack on the CP on into the trusty Tascam DR-05.

Just a down a dirty exercise really so it's short and to the point but I'm pretty pleased with the results of these three pieces of kit. Very raw and not really elegant at all but they do their jobs well."

Summer Updates From Madrona Labs

via Madrona Labs

"Summer updates: all the things

Hello from the Labs! A few months of quiet work on the foundations of things is wrapping up, and I'm feeling certain enough about it to give you a preview. I'm updating the core library behind Aalto, Kaivo and the new Virta for compatibility and stability.

Text handling has gotten an overhaul to allow for use of Unicode in patch names and registrations. If your name is Фёдор, or 郎, or you want to name your patch, say, デトロイトテクノ, we've got you covered.

Compatibility with Gatekeeper on Mac is getting added via a new licensing system that should be very easy to use. Because of the need to change the website for this, all the plugins are switching over to the new license code at once within a few weeks. It's a big change that should make deploying new versions easier for me, and should also make life easier for all users of the software.

Timing problems affecting Reaper and a Virta problem I introduced with version 1.0.2 are also getting fixed. Stay tuned for news about this big release.

Summer sale: all plugins 30% off

All plugins are now on sale through September 1. Visit the website, and use the code BEACONHILL on the product pages for a 30% discount on Aalto, Kaivo or the new, never-before-on-sale Virta.

Summer music in Seattle

I hope summer is treating you well, and that you're taking some time to enjoy the company of friends and good music. Here in Seattle, our season kicked off with a rare treat, a memorable, performance from experimental composer and long-time Aalto player Bob Ostertag. We did a last-minute renegade in the park, and the scene was like some cosmic garden party. Here’s a little video.

Some tracks from this channel are available on bandcamp. I'm terrible at self-promotion, but I'm hoping this will help fund replacing my equipment, so that I can continue making music for this channel and record an album. I've got some ideas and works-in-progress for an album, it'll be along similar lines to my more minimalist recordings, rather than the predominantly busy, 70's-sounding stuff on this collection. Hopefully it'll be more original and personal.

Thank you to those who have already purchased some of my music, I sincerely appreciate it. Thank you also to those who have followed my channel over and last couple of years and your encouraging words - it's genuinely helped me to keep going."

Korg PolySix New KLM-367 - Serviced

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Korg Polysix for sale. An amazing 6 Voice Analog Synth featuring real VCO's and an SSM Chipset. There's a great organic quality to this synth that only the subtle detuning of VCO's can do. The SSM filter has so much character. On board real Analog Chorus, Phaser and Ensemble coupled with one of the biggest Unison modes ever!

Very good condition for it's age and just serviced. Everything works perfectly. A new KLM-367 Voice Assigner PCB was installed by the Polysix guru Old Crow (Scott Rider). This is the board that most commonly fail do to battery leakage. On to the new PCB there is also a replaceable coin battery for trouble free service in the future.

The Polysix has been tuned and calibrated. The internal power supply has also been serviced with new filter capacitors for quiet operation and long life. Key contacts cleaned and new key bushing installed. New power cord.

There are some scratches here and there and a little chipping on the sides but nothing bad."

New CEM3340 VCO Eurorack Module Coming from nonlinearcircuits

via nonlinearcircuits

"I generally prefer to use generic components for new designs, but couldn't resist making a module for the newly re-released CEM3340 VCO IC.

This is very much based on the Aries AR-338 PMS VCO, which features phase modulated sync and a pan-pulse output. The AR-338 used a SSM2030, so it was not too hard to modify the sub-sections to suit the CEM3340. As you can see, for such a feature rich VCO, there are not all that many components."

Live Jam #47 - Electro / Downtempo / Ambient - Korg er-1, Microkorg, Microbrute, eurorack

Published on Aug 17, 2016 Monotrail

"Started this jam with a simple clocked random melodic patch on the modular, and couldn't resists making a nice ambience around it. A little space exploration.

Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/monotrailmusic

Patch description:

Microbrute is the very recognizable slow gliding baseline. Microkorg plays the chords. Volca sample the steady kick and little wup. Korg er-1 the second kick and hats/noise/snare. Akai apc key 25 is triggering midi clips via Ableton, and two samples from freesound. The modular has a nice simple patch for the random high notes. Main voice is a Dixie II sine through the MMG. A fast sine from Peaks through a vca opened by a random voltage is modulating the Dixies fm. The melody comes from a clocked Doepfer a156 dual quantizer fed with a stepped random voltage from the MFB dual lfo, which in turn is modulated with a slow random voltage from Peaks.

Stuff used:
Korg Volca Sample, Korg Microkorg, Arturia Beatstep Pro, Arturia Microbrute, Akai APC key 25 and Eurorack modular system with:

Doepfer: a-118, a-119, a-124, a-143-4, a-148, a-156, a-160-2, a-199
Intellijel: Dixie II, uFold, Quadra, 2xTriat , Linux, mult
Make noise: MMG, Lxd
Mutable instruments: Clouds, Peaks
MFB: Dual LFO
Synthrotek: Echo, Deluxe power

Diy:
Quad attenuator

Audio via the Behringer mixer to a Moto Ultralite MK3 hybrid.
External effects: T.C electronics M350 for delay"

Also, just want to let you all know I read your comments and I take note of all the requests I get. I can't always make it happen, and a lot of them will get forgotten about, but I look to them for inspiration, and when I find it, I follow it."

4ms VCA Matrix modular synth jam performance & demo

Published on Aug 16, 2016 Patrick OBrien

"Featuring the power of the 4ms VCA Matrix!! This live modular synth jam / demo features the Eurorack module which has four CV or audio inputs that can be routed in any amount/combination to four outputs, using the 16 CV control jacks, Level knobs, and Mute buttons. More info on the module: http://www.4mspedals.com/vcam.php

4 Voices:
Kick: Mutable Instruments Peaks
Bass: Make Noise STO
Melody: Intellijel Dixie II+
Clap: Hexinverter Mutant Clap

Effects:
Reverb: Audio Damage AEverb
Delay: 4ms Dual Looping Delay
Granulation: Audio Damage Grainshift

The clock starts with the Make Noise Wogglebug feeding the Make Noise Tempi, which also clocks a Delptronics Triggerman, triggering CV to various channels. It also feeds the 4ms Pingable Envelope Generator to make a long kick trigger midway through the piece. I used Intellijel's Dual ADSR for envelope shaping. The melody is sequenced by Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator. Mutable Instruments Warps and Make Noise DPO were being used as CV also, giving a unique sound to some channels.

All 4 outputs of the 4ms Matrix were sent to a Malekko MUTE 4 outputting to Pittsburgh Modular Outs, sent to Ableton Live for master file creation for YouTube, SoundCloud, and Instagram.

-------------------------------

I recorded video with an iPhone 6+ then manually synced the video with the audio using iMovie.

-------------------------------

No computers were used in the performance of this piece. All modular synths, recorded live in a single take."
