Obligatory Berlin Sequence - Roland Ju 06

"Lost for ideas and listening to too much Klaus Schulze (is there such a thing?) I decided to make a Sequencer style track with the Roland JU-06. I used the Ju 06 for all the sounds you hear. There is some post processing with reverbs and the like to make things work in a mix but tried to keep everything very simple.

Sorry about the lack of sound quality in some parts of the clip. The digital recording i made had massive dropouts in the sound (thanks firewire audio!) and was unusable

"This keyboard was build between 1987 and 1989 in the GDR. Less than 1000 were produced. Most of them went to the eastern block countries. In the western market there were manufacturers like Casio much more efficient in producing such instruments. They were smaller, lighter and cheaper. In Eastern Germany they had no special integrated circuits for musical relations. So they had to build it conventional. The rhythm section is analogue. The rhythm presets are stored in EPROMS. Maybe it is possible to create new styles in changing the EPROM data."

Buchla 208 Music Easel & Serge TKB Sequencer Clones

"Buchla Music Easel clone by RomanF and Serge TKB clone by TheHumanComparator, built with 100% period accurate new old stock components.

The Easel is a 1:1 accurate clone of the original early 70s Buchla 208 built on 13 pcbs with gold plated NOS ua726s, vactrols, Sprague caps, etc. - this is NOT the modern surface mount imitation easel built by BEMI. This is the closest to an original Easel you can get without spending $40,000 (if you can find one).

The Serge TKB clone is also built from 1:1 accurate clone of original pcb with NOS MM74C15, Davies knobs and precision resistors and potentiometers.

The TKB can be clocked by the 208 "pulser" (LFO) and in turn the CV outs of the TKB can control the 208 pitch, LPG etc. This is an excellent small system as you can use two of the rows of the sequencer to control FM and pitch and still have two more rows of sequencing for Low Pass Gate etc. The TKB is also an excellent performance interface with touch keyboard.

The pair are built into two 4U 19" rack boats. Please note, the picture showing the rear is to illustrate the construction quality, the panels are mounted inside aluminum rack mount boats. The power supply for the 208 is mounted in the boat with the TKB, so each have their own beefy PowerOne supply at calibrated voltages."

"I haven't uploaded a patch for a couple of months because i have been preparing for a couple of live performances but today i decided to concentrate on using some modules that i regularly have a tough time with. It's important for me to get the most i can out of all of my modules and to have them in my case at all becomes a bit of a privilege since i like to keep the unit at 12RUx 104hp.

Subsequently todays patch is a grinding affair attesting to my relationship with some of the modules which make up this patch."

Homemade DIY Triadex Muse

"First test of the home made, Triadex Muse inspired music generator. It's way bigger than it really needs to be, due to the use of an old auto-lathe matrix, for which the molded pins were backwards for what I needed. There are circuits that allow the matrix to operate as an AND gate, and as an OR gate. The shift registers are mounted, one per board, on old CGS13 PCBs. Binary to melody is done via diatonic converter PCBs. There are a few odd things going on, such as the slew, which shouldn't be there (empty chip socket!! and chips salvaged from the 70s)."
