"Cyclone Analogic TT-78 Beat Bot

The TT-78, from Cyclone Analogic, is the next step in their collection of classic reproductions of iconic drum machines. The TT-78 is modelled after the classic CR-78 drum machine from Roland, produced in 1978. The TT-78 contains all the modern upgrades one would expect, while also being housed in a sleek shell, similar to the TT-303 and TT-606. It has the same intuitive sequencing functions as the previous Cyclone Analogic unit, but with a completely different sound palette, using sounds like Bongos, Congas, Maracas, and Guiro. There are seven individual outputs, providing independent jacks for most of the sounds. It also comes complete with MIDI In, Out and Thru, for synchronizing the TT-78 with all one's other gear.

Tauntek Firmware Update for the AKAI AX80 Synthesizer

"Akai AX80 owners out there might fins this interesting — I’ve been involved with beta testing a firmware upgrade for the Akai AX80, which adds a number of features.

You gain the ability to save and load your patches via MIDI, as gain CC/SYSEX abilities. There are some other nice upgrades in there, like having a live VCF cutoff control, the ability to toggle the LFO to free running from triggered, and having the current patch number displayed when saving. I even managed be able to edit every parameter at the same time via MIDI CC! The filter control is definitely steppy, but oddly enough, it seems a lot smoother when modulated via MIDI CC.

If you can flash your own EPROMs, then it’s a free upgrade, or you can order the chip, which is pretty cheap ($30) and simple to swap out."

Tauntek also did CC upgrade mods for the Sequential Circuits Max & Multi-Trak.

Waldorf Q+ Analog Filter Demo (Raw Sound)

"This is a short recording I made when I used to own this synth, a simple arpeggio with a bit of tweaking.

Only analog filters are employed, I can't recall whether those were 12 or 24 dB, usually I preferred the 12 dB.

Dry sound, no FX whatsoever, either internal or external.

However, it is rather specific, maybe a little too sweet and dizzy.

This may be partly caused by A/D-D/A conversion in the Analog Filter Module.

But it feels like a kind of psycho-acoustic expander or enhancer is in place which makes almost anything sound pleasing to our ears.

(Waldorf Pulse being one of the worst examples probably).

This is not necessarily good for our brains though as we have little control over it.

The perception of things in general gets altered and it's even harder to figure out which is which.

There is something morbid about Q+. The calming effect it has closer resembles paralyses than tranquillity.

This unit was probably produced in 1978 and its signal path must be very similar to that of ARP Odyssey Mk III. According to the Service Manual they share several of the same PCBs."

The DirtyGlitch is a high experimental VCO harnessing grain table synthesis driven through dual glitch engines to produce sounds. The first 90 patches attempt to be more musical like a contemporary VCO .. make sure the delay (CLK RATE knob on these patches) is in the centre position to access all of the available tones.

The Following 910 patches are just outright bizarre, containing various clock, internal step-sequence and LFO / knob based modulations and weirdness as per the patch list. Aside from use as a VCO, Dirty Glitch can be used as a highly interesting modulation source or can produce some really kick-ass unusual percussion sounds in conjunction with a VCA.

"Here's the first (not great, have a cold!) video showing the Flash-8 loading and saving sessions. Live Sequences and settings can be saved as they are and will all re-load exactly (like a snap-shot).

A interesting use (pointed out to me today) would be to make a clocked sequence (or a bunch of "notes" that will become a sequence when clocked) and save it. Upon loading, a patched clock, or a MIDI clock will start the sequence playing on cue.

Might as well, all those Slices are there anyway!"

Reflex + Flash-8: Auto-Slicing Drum samples via MIDI in DAW

"This is a really easy way to get all of the little samples into the Reflex and save them as a session. In this case drums are being sampled, fully automatically.
A RECord is started via the Record note A-1, then at each sample a SLICE note is sent(F-1). Generally this will be fine if your 'puter latency isn't too much, 6-8mS, and not advanced to the MIDI -as the next drum will start before the next Slice ends the previous-
After all samples are in, the REC button is held, (same note F-1), but longer, (about 1second), and the new Slices are played. At this point they can be saved as a session for instant loading."
