Free Roland JX3P - String & Pads Sample Pack From Seaweed Factory

via Seaweed Factory

"This sample pack is the first of three in a series of packs featuring the Roland JX3P Synthesizer, released in 1983.

The first pack focuses on string and pad patches, as the Roland JX3P Synthesizer is well known for these types of sounds.
The four patches included have been multisampled directly from the synthesizer. The JX3P can produce 61 notes, starting at C3 (midi note 36) on up through C8 (midi note 96). Each note had been individually sampled for an extended period of time to capture the behaviour of the built-in chorus. Samples are labelled by patch name and midi note number. Each folder contains a full set of all the sounds the JX3P can make for that patch.

Look for parts 2 and 3 soon!

Patches
String A Heavy chorused strings, built to stand up front
String B Slightly mellower strings, built to sit in a mix
Waster Pad Bright saw bassy pad, sci-fi classic
Heavy Decay Dark filter sweep pad, instance space"

"This unit is in excellent shape and 100% fully functional. All knobs and switches function as they should and a scratch free. The only thing worth mentioning is that the white sliding switches are a little finicky in that you have to move them fully, otherwise the connection won't go through if not moved half way. I found this to be a normal issue with these types of Moog sliders but they still operate and all functions work as they should when moved properly. Just a quirk of the unit I thought worth mentioning. Everything else is working as it should. Cosmetically it's in super clean near mint shape."

emu & serge for xmas

Published on Dec 25, 2016 zack dagoba

"Merry Xmas!

A Christmas patch on the Emu and Serge modulars. This was not an easy sequence to set up due to the extremely quirky nature of the early Emu digital logic implementation, but I wanted to test the step sequencer which is capable of generating 32 control voltages if you set it up correctly. There is very little info out there on these modules, and what I could find (the 1978 Emu Systems Catalog, and a more detailed manual called the Emu Modular Synthesiser Operation Manual Retrospective) which had some very oblique references to the patch required. Suffice it to say that it took me about 3 days to work it out and plenty of phone calls to Big Al (who knows a lot about early digital logic). It goes something like this: take a clock source and patch it out to the 8 Position Address Generator taking the 'Carry' output trigger (which happens at the end of the 8th step) and mult it out to the 3 clock inputs of a Triple Latch which needs to act as a ring counter. So use the 3 'Q' outputs to feed into the next Data input of each latch with Q3 feeding back into Data 1 to make it cycle. That gives you 3 steps. The clever bit is making the 4th step which means taking the 3 '-Q' outputs and multing them together to generate a clock on every 4th cycle (whenever an "all zero" state occurs). Patch the 4 outputs of the Voltage Source Unit into the 4 ins of the Analog Switch and use the newly created 4 stage ring counter to step through them. PHEW! The rest of this patch uses the Serge to generate some percussive sounds including the Wilson Analog Delay and Spring Reverbs. Its a live single take jam-up. MERRY SYNTHMAS!!!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! New posts will go up shortly. I just wrapped up on the morning's festivities and now I get to relax, post, and watch episodes of the original Little Rascals in the background. Yep, it's become a family tradition believe it or not. BTW, if you haven't seen them, do it some time. They are absurd in the best way.

As you can see, this year was pretty slim on the synth acquisition front. As you know Novation sent in an UltraNova for review (BTW, I should have a little surprise for you all, coming in January, courtesy of Novation), my wife picked up a Voyager pint glass from Moog for me, complete with beer, and I received my yearly Christmas card from Analogue Solutions (thank you Tom!).

The biggest gift of the year, of course, is running this site. I want to thank all of you who take the time out of your day to visit, contribute, and spread the word. I want to give an extra thanks to the supporters of MATRIXSYNTH!, and of course my sponsors above (thank you DSI!) and on the right. Without you, this site would not be the same, let alone possible. Thank you all!

Merry Synthmas and happy holidays everyone!

BTW, feel free to share what you got this year in the comments below. I'd love to hear about it! It's alway fun to live vicariously through others.
