QU-Bit Chord Module: First Quick Test

Published on Dec 27, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"5 minutes after unboxing and racking, I had to record this first quick test of the QU-Bit Electronix CHORD module. I'm not using a sequencer on it (yet) so the "musicality" is coming from random modulation of the Chord's Voicing and Inversion via the Make Noise Richter Wogglebug, and the Chord's Waveform via the Mutable Instrument Peaks in LFO mode. I will be replacing my Make Noise Tempi with the XAOC Devices BATUMI Quad LFO for modulation duties on Chord. Other modules making an appearance are Mutable's Braids (sequenced by the Intellijel Metropolis), Elements & Rings (sequenced by the Arturia Beatstep Pro) Warps and Clouds."

"A sort of trivia regarding the RS-202: It was virtually cloned by an small American company called Multivox. they released the MX-202 which not only looked almost totally identical to the RS-202, but also featured copied hardware - component for component! Despite only a few minor differences between the two, the MX-202 still didn't sound as nice as the Roland."

"For sale is a beautifully restored 1975 Moog Micromoog Analog Synthesizer.
This is a beautiful synthesizer, that has been completely restored to it's 1975 beauty.
It comes with a hardcase and an s-trigger to 1/4" cable.

This is a small list of the work done:
A minor, poorly done "mod" was removed as it served no value.
A selector switch was repaired.
All switches and pots were cleaned.
All knobs and switches were meticulously cleaned, and restored to their original luster with a jelly bath.
The inside was completely cleaned, as was the outside.
The key-bed was completely disassembled, cleaned, and re-assembled, with brand new bushings, so that it now plays like new.
The unit was re-calibrated to factory specs.
For details and pics, see:

The unit is now mint 1975, and comes with a hard case and a s-trigger to 1/4" adapter. This is a beautiful unit that plays and sounds wonderful, and has some really cool features missing from modern synths. Additionally, as this is a vintage thru-hole synth, it can be repaired again and again, unlike modern SMD synths where the only replacement parts are "new circuit boards.""

"Our deepest gratitude, Mimi & Petie.

http://lightbath.com

Simply said, this patch is three voices, two of which are generative and one, which is a sequence. The generative voices are two STOs into Optomix (shaped by Just Friends), into 4MS DLD. The sequence is Tides into Belgrad, into a secret (I'll talk once it's released), into Clouds into H9. Ableton Live provides the MIDI for all voices and also a touch of Convolution Reverb and Multiband Compression."

The following are details on the Harmonic Multiplier via the Blind Monk Modular website, where you can find some audio demos. Note this is the first Blind Monk Modular post on MATRIXSYNTH.

"The harmonic multiplier is an all analog harmonic generator and wave shaper. Capable of creating unique and complex tones, it takes an audio input from a triangle wave oscillator and multiplies the frequency up to seven times. It can process other audio signals as well. There is a built in distortion circuit for additional timbres. Input two oscillators and get a variety of ring modulator sounds and feedback is available for even further tones and harmonics.

eurorack format, all analog circuitry

individual knobs and outputs for each of the harmonics

six stages of wave folding

distortion circuit for thick pulse width sounds and sync style tones

feedback capable of creating crunchy digital sounding harmonics

input control voltages for wave symmetry, chorus like effects, and feedback tone control

can also be used as a two channel mixer"

RSF Kobol Synthesizer VST Emulation - PolyKB III by xils-lab

PolyKB III by xils-lab

"Simply the most versatile and powerful analog modelled polyphonic synthesiser ever produced

Intro Price : 119€ Until January 21th, 2017

The PolyKB III captures the sound and spirit of the legendary RSF PolyKobol 2 polyphonic synthesizer, including its most revolutionnary feature : Morphing analog Oscillators.

This set it apart from all the other common analog synth recreations, because you have instant access to hundreds of different analog modelled & free running oscillators waveforms. More than in other synthesizer, including those who propose switching between oscillators models. Icing on the cake, they can be dynamically modulated by many sources.

"Used Moog Opus 3 analog synth with hard shell road case on wheels, sustain footswitch, and power cable. Quintessential, awesome, vintage, analog synth sounds from this unit that could use a little TLC. It saw a good amount of gigging thirty years ago and was recently dusted off from storage. It's got some typical road wear (particularly on the wood paneling and a missing on/off switch for the chorus mode) and the following functionality seems to need repair: the chorus mode, 'VCF Contour', and 'Articular Release'"

Gecho Mini Music Box Loopsynth on Kickstarter

Published on Dec 8, 2016 Gecho Loopsynth

"In music box you’ve seen gears, steel comb and cylinder with pins. Gecho doesn’t try to hide its printed circuit board and some electronic elements. You can touch them – actually, you are encouraged to touch them, nothing will break!

While you can’t see electrons moving in copper traces, there are twenty-nine colourful lights to show what is going on inside... and because interaction is embedded deeply in spirit of today’s technology, even our music box must not stay inert. It can hear your voice, pick frequencies off your musical instruments, remember and play them back to you. It has four sensors to measure distance of your fingers hundred times per second.

It senses magnetic fields and infra-red light, expanding your senses... and knows how to translate these invisible forces to something you can hear.

But most importantly, even with the very basic program, Gecho creates unique ambience for your ears.

Eager to explore it?"

via the Kickstarter campaign

"Gecho is a polyphonic, pocket synthesizer with interactive controls

How it works: TL; DR

Instead of knobs, it has touch-less sensors that react to your fingers. It also has very sensitive microphones that hear your singing, whistling or tapping. The collected signal is fed through a group of variable-resonant filters, forming chord-progressions. At the same time, environmental noise peaks disturb the filters settings, creating complexity of sounds.

Full story

I tried to make a music box using the current technology, replacing steel comb, pinned cylinder, cogwheels and springs with crystal oscillators and power cells... but I ended up with something more complex. It can be a music box - with a click of the button, it starts playing melodies straight away. But it can also be so much more...

Synth song #11

Published on Dec 27, 2016 organfairy

"Again, this is more a demonstration than an actual 'song' and it isn't actually nice in any sonic way.

But

I have made several frequency dividers over the years. Most of them are based on the 4017 or 4024 integrated dividers. But this time I wanted to make a frequency multiplier. The way I have done it is to use a 4046 phase locked loop with a 4017 decade counter in the feedback loop. I made three of those and build them into the same box.

The other sounds are a made with my drum synthesizer through a spring reverb and one of my synthesizers with the filter controlled by a random generator."
