Korg Wavestation EX

Published on Sep 16, 2017 100 Things I Do

"What do you do when you want a Prophet VS but the prices make your eyes water? A partial answer is the Korg Wavestation EX, It contains the Waves from the Prophet VS. Dave Smith and John Bowen worked on it and it can do those super chilled 90's digital synth pads.

Remember I said it was a partial answer (no pun intended), the cutoff filter is more like a tone control and there is no resonance. With some careful programming you can get very close to these features by mixing in the included resonance waves. If this is a deal killer Korg addressed most of this problem with the Wavestation Plugin which has been kept up to date an runs on most 64bit platforms.

A lot of people say this synth is very hard to program. I found once you get your head into how the sounds are put together its quite easy to come up with custom and unique sounds. I was able to create full custom patches within a hour or two of owning the synth. It can stray very far away from its 90's roots and at the current prices they sell for make a very nice addition to any studio, even onboard effects are nice and you can easily use them in a mix."
