Update: Re-Published on Mar 24, 2017 CLASSIC VINTAGE

"The Prophet 12’s brand new hybrid voice has a digital front end followed by an all analog signal path output. Each voice has four high resolution digital oscillators (plus a sub oscillator), a digital character effects section, a resonant Curtis low-pass filter, a high-pass filter, a tune-able feedback circuit, a four-tap delay line with feedback per line, four loopable five-stage envelope generators, four syncable LFOs with slew and phase offset, a sophisticated arpeggiator, and a sixteen slot modulation matrix with 26 mod sources and 97 modulation destinations. The Prophet 12 is packed with a plethora of sonic potential and power!"

Optigan Recordings by Johnny Largo

Published on Mar 22, 2017 optigandotcom

"These are demo recordings of the Optigan made by in-house musical director Johnny Largo (aka Johnny La Padula - see http://optigan.com/info/optigan/emplo...). Much of this material has not previously been heard, having languished on the original studio master tapes for 45 years. This will give a good sense of what the Optigan can sound like in the hands of a true professional, as well as serve as a general demonstration for the various discs. Sorry, I don't have recordings of Johnny demonstrating every last disc that was released, but I've posted what I do have."

Such a trip. For those not familiar with the Optigan it was like an optical record version of the Mellotron. The discs were like large clear flexi-disc with waveforms drawn on them. The Optigon would then play the waveforms as you played its keyboard. The Optigan was released in 1971. You can find previous posts on the Optigan via the label below, and of course you can find a ton of info on http://optigan.com.

"In excellent near mint shape. Really fantastic cosmetic condition. Scroll down below to check out the detailed pictures to make sure you like it. Installed is an awesome upgraded screen, very easy to read. Everything is working 100% fully functional, except Aftertouch but this is a common issue as they came from the factory with a faulty design (you can always use external midi keyboards for AT). Amazing vector synthesis sound with analog filters. Nothing sounds like the VS! Haunting pads, thick leads, bells, effects, it's amazing every time I play it."

"Original owner. My first synth. I love this thing but it's time for someone else to enjoy it. V2 model with variable 24db resonance (as opposed to the fixed resonance on the original model). Great shape for a 35 year old synth (one small chip at edge of power jack. See photo). No modifications. After-market power supply. BC01 breath controller and bag show their age. Some rust and corrosion here and there but fully tested and works great to modulate VCA, VCF or both."

Recapped Roland Jupiter 4 w/ MIDI I/O

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Cosmetically in great shape and electronically in future proofed condition. A complete professional overhaul was done this year at Waveformless which included a complete recap of every voice card, power supply, and programmer board, a tuning and calibration. Every key was cleaned and all sliders and knobs have been fully lubricated and throughly cleaned.

The FULL MIDI I/O kit was installed which includes both the expanded memory section as well as all the page 2 functions. The I/O MIDI kit comes in two options and some owners choose to install only one component, this Jupiter 4 has the complete full kit. This allows for total control over MIDI for all the sliders on the JP4. Not only that but a MIDI output is also installed, which means you can actually record slider movements and keyboard playing straight from the Jupiter 4 into your favorite sequencer. The I/O MIDI Kit for the JP4 is the most comprehensive MIDI solution. Not only that, but it uses a faster CPU so MIDI triggering is absolutely lightning fast. If you want to synchronize the arpeggiator to MIDI there are many options for dividing down the MIDI clock, but it will work just as the original did over the trigger input as well.

You will be hard pressed to find a better Jupiter 4 anywhere. A lot of money was invested into creating the most stable, fully tuned, and fully integrated for 2017 Jupiter 4 that's ready for serious use. It sounds absolutely superb and the tuning is rock solid due to the extensive recapping of each individual voice card."

Melu Instruments Freak

Published on Mar 22, 2017 Perfect Circuit Audio

"Freak from Melu Instruments is a dual digital phase synchronized oscillator for use in Eurorack modular synthesizers. Both oscillators can be phase synchronised to each other, each with dedicated audio outputs. This allows one to process both oscillators separately, providing a sharp and well defined tone for bass and leads. The modulator, which can reach audio-rate frequencies, helps to create a complex and interesting timbre reminiscent of early Casio phase modulation synthesizers and DX7-style FM."

Moog Drone (with some bass too)

Published on Mar 22, 2017 NoizeHack

"Feeding my recent Moog obsession with a Mother 32, Minitaur and MF-107 Freqbox. Also used two SQ-1s and a Volca Beats and a DIY Synth.

Drone from Mother 32 into Freq Box, bass from Minitaur, drums Volca Beats, high pitch beeping synth DIY synth. Volca Beats and DIY synth are run through boss distortion pedals. Recorded onto 1/4" reel to reel, most of the hiss is from the DS-1 and not the tape, but it does a convincing emulation of tape hiss."

Hyve Touch Synth Now on Kickstarter

You all should be familiar with the Hyve Touch synthesizer featured numerous times here on MATRIXSYNTH.

The Hyve Touch is now seeking funding on Kickstarter here. There are both DIY and pre-built options.

The following are some details for those new to the Hyve Touch:

"Hyve Touch Synthesizer is a fun, expressive musical instrument that anyone can make and play. It responds to human touch, even your slightest finger movements give you powerful control. Turning these gestures into sound allows you to play music like never before.

Expressive touch, analog synth

Slide your fingers across the surface to explore new ways to touch sound. It’s a 60-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer that is controlled by pressure, horizontal, and vertical movements of each finger on the surface. Even the smallest wiggle of your finger makes the sound come alive, giving expression to the music you make.

Explore and harmonize

Notes on the Hyve are arranged so that you can easily explore harmonies and tone combinations with small movements of your finger.

The bottom half is arranged like a piano keyboard. Each key senses pressure, vertical position, and horizontal position. Moving vertically allows you to sweep through octaves and harmonically combine them into evolving tones. Horizontal movements push the sound right and left in stereo. Touching the bottom row causes a pressure-controlled pitch bend.

The top half uses a hexagon grid to put notes that sound good together right next to each other. Every adjacent note is harmonically related: straight up is a perfect 5th, up to the right is a major 3rd, and up to the left is a minor 3rd. This means that one finger can play a chord and slide to the next chord in the song. Each hexagon also senses pressure and horizontal position like the bottom half."

OTO MACHINES BAM INTERFACE GUIDE

Published on Mar 22, 2017 once upon a synth

"This is a tutorial on how to use the OTO Machines BAM. I go over each part of the interface and explain all the different options and settings. I'm using a Korg Volca Bass as a sound source (off screen). The BAM is a very simple unit to operate and you can access 90% of the functionality directly on the front panel. There are some hidden settings available but these aren't critical to every day use. In my opinion the interface is really well designed."

Native Instruments releases FORM 1.1 Update

Published on Mar 22, 2017 Native Instruments

"March 22, 2017, Berlin – Native Instruments today released FORM 1.1, a significant update to this distinctive sample-scanning synthesizer. Free for existing users, FORM 1.1 adds a number of new performance and editing features and expands the content library significantly.

FORM is a powerful synthesizer that uses samples to create entirely new synthetic textures. It combines easy-to-use functionality and highly usable presets with creative performance features.

FORM 1.1 includes over 200 new presets and corresponding samples – taking the total to over 400. The new presets all include multiple Performance slot variations, and the NI Sound Design team has also added variations for most of the existing preset library. Many of the new presets and variations take advantage of the new features in the update. Updated, the library reinforces FORM’s versatility for all contemporary electronic styles, covering Leads, Bass, Keys, Pads, Hybrid Instruments, SFX, Soundscapes, and Sequences.

FORM 1.1 introduces a number of new features, such as ‘Center’ and ‘Width’ controls to modulate scan range, allowing even easier control of sample playback and more consistent results. A new page of motion curve presets helps create distinctive choppy-style sample edits. Manual scan control allows complete hands on control of sample-playback. Volume faders for sound variations in ‘Perform’ section avoid jarring volume jumps when swapping Performance snapshots. The ability to copy / paste parameters from one Performance slot to another makes creating new variations far easier. Compact View places key performance controls in one simple interface, ideal for live play. All parameters can now be automated, making it simple to catch inspired live tweaks. Finally, there are new controller pages for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series keyboards and all versions of MASCHINE, allowing even deeper integration with Native Instruments hardware.

FORM runs in REAKTOR 6 and the free REAKTOR 6 PLAYER and is available for purchase now at the NI Online Shop for $99 / 99 € / ¥ 12,800 / £89 / AU$159.

Existing FORM, KOMPLETE 11, and KOMPLETE 11 ULTIMATE owners can download and install the free update using Native Access.

Additional information about FORM 1.1 is available at:

EarthQuaker Devices transmisser and space spiral synth jam session

Published on Mar 22, 2017 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff, please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/

here is a story... Thing is that quite some time ago I was watching the knobs YT channel and this really quirky feature movie popped up about a company in Akron, EarthQuaker Devices.. I had seen some demos on their pedals before, but mainly for guitars, sort of discarded them because they didn't seem to fit my sound.. but this new feature video really triggered my interest and I decided to order a couple pedals.. time passed and I forgot about it. Much later I saw again a brilliant knobs demo of the new space spiral pedal and thought, what the heck.. let's save up some cash and buy that and the transmisser.. said and done.

Some months later.. I finally got them.. and O_M_G.... they are SO spaced out, anything I put through them sounds like a zombie unicorn taking a rainbow dump on the synth and sends it to a cave on Saturn (You completely get it right?). It's incredible how musical they are... I will continue messing around on other tracks, not sure where I will go next, but I don't feel they are one trick unicorns as the sonic capabilities seem to be huge.

The tune you hear is me recycling my own Volca keys movement track... using the Volca keys that passes through the reface CP before it hits the space spiral and then the transmisser.

Note, no levels and/or other stuff was tended to... I just turned the gear on and started recording, so you might hear some occasional hum and hiss.. eg. no sugar coating, exactly the same way it would sound at your place.

Note, I have the ditto looper on the floor playing a reverse piano thingy mid track.. just to add some extra harmonics. All else you hear, is the keys with some Yamaha reface CP layered from time to time.

Enjoy! :D"
