"We found these markings inside a 1984 Oberheim Xpander that we have in the shop for restoration and repairs. Looks like one wooden end panel was OK, but the other needed more work!"

Funny! Wonder if they are referring to the silicon chips. Sand, get it? :)

Moog Modular IIIc ▪ Sennheiser Vocoder VSM 201 ▪ Heinz Funk 1978 ▪ English subtitles

"In 1978, German musician, technician and businessman Heinz Funk (* 1915 - † 2013) tried to bring the average television consumer closer to the possibilities of electronic sound production. Going for half-measures wasn't his scene then: The TV demonstration included the cabinet-size Moog Modular IIIc, on which 2 copies of the Sennheiser Vocoder VSM 201 resided (only 50 pieces were allegedly produced). Left to them was placed the - here unused - Moog license module 1630 of the Bose Frequency Shifter.

'Storm wind', 'canary' and 'Lili Marleen' were pre-produced for this televised report, but the speech-laden vocoder demo was obviously done live. A white lab coat and patch cables wrapped around the neck should symbolize the technician. Body language and positioned leg of the presenter should bring out the relaxed handling of the then still quite unknown music technology.

Since this presentation was embedded in a musical entertainment program of the 'Second German Television', it should not deal too much with scientific and technical matter. The entertaining aspect was in the foreground, because the target audience on this TV show was not much drawn to electronic music production at that time. Heinz Funk mastered the tonal span between convention and modernism with wit and at the end of his performance even staged the "crazy professor". This was something usually not expected of a serious musician, as Funk was one. According to reports, he presented this highly "casual" style of a Moog and Sennheiser sales presentation even to a specialist audience, which was not always accepted with approval in German sales circles those days.

The vita of Heinz Funk reveals a "Jack-of-all-trades": Flight instructor, film composer, accordion and piano player, orchestra director, arranger, producer, music teacher, sound engineer, author of technical documentation, Moog sales partner, founder and proprietor of the nationwide „Studio Funk“, which still produces for radio stations, as well as film and sound studios. Heinz Funk's wide network within the AV media industry also brought together numerous musicians and developers, thus promoting the emergence of the German electronic music scene of the 1970s and 1980s."

Quadnic Chords - SE88 Warmth and Wrath

"Charcot Circles/BBox 8 CVs and their many gates take aim at the Quadnic, which is warmed and pendulum-strafed by the Low Pass/Band Pass side of our SE88 filter. Max input level at times = "Dual Pendulum Chaos Generator" distortion on the '88.*

Ste. 16, Shapers, Level, Amp and Outs disturb and mollify the chain as well.

The STE. 16 (STE. pronounced as sweet, not stee; you know like the party for teen girls and the amount of waveforms on board the STE?) imparts that jumpy, jerky, luscious filtering flow, it's resets being triggered by the Charcot Circles reset or clock out (can't remember). Really a versatile and expressive dual LFO that Stee is—now you've got us calling it that!"

"This is a very rare Dynacord ADD-one vintage drum synthesiser.

It is working, although the factory programs were lost when the battery was replaced (yes, they should have been backed up first).

The ROM samples were obviously not affected but the synth parameters/programs were lost. You can of course program your own sounds but there were some very nice patches in the original set so it might be worthwhile trying to find a copy."

"The KiwiSix upgrade essentially modernizes the Polysix with whole host of new features, including full midi support, deeper patch management and increased reliability, all while retaining that great SSM sound. Additionally, this unit also comes with the Kiwi Power Board upgrade, which further increases the stability and reliability of the synth. The full feature set of both of these upgrades are listed here (kiwitechnics.com/kiwisix.htm)

Furthermore, this unit also includes a discontinued Synthgraphics KiwiSix overlay. Really high quality, OEM-style graphics that completely display the additional panel functions included in KiwiSix upgrade."

Din Sync OSC303 MK2 v Hexinverter Mutant Drums

Published on Mar 19, 2017 Guy Schneerson

"Warning!! At 5:00 I am increasing the Mutant Bassdrum decay and you get insanely deep bass so watch your speakers

Just finishing building the Din Sync OSC303 MK2 TB-303 eurorack oscillator and as I haven’t got any filters, I decided to process it through my mutant drums.

In the video I am using the Arturia Beatstep pro to control the patch.

Beatstep Beatstep pro (CV & gate):

A single channel is used to send a simple 3 note CV pattern to the oscillator and all other channels are gates to trigger the drums, until towards the end it is only kick and hats and 3 parts OSC303

The OSC303:

Is routed through 3 different paths through the eurorack using the Hexinverter snare clap and bassdrum. The clap uses two of its outputs the direct and filter out

Part 1: Din Sync OSC303 Saw out --> Hexinverter Mutant Clap ->out --> Mixer 1

Part 2: Din Sync OSC303 Square out --> Mutant Bassdrum Distortion --> Bastl Instruments Skis --> Mixer 3

Part 3: Din Sync OSC303 Saw -- Hexinverter Mutant Clap ->Filter out -- Hexinverter Mutant Snare -- Mixer 2

The Drums

Kick:

Hexinverter Mutant Bassdrum -- 808 Mutant kick Drum

606 Style Hats:
Audio Damage Adm07 Mad Hatter Eurorack Noise Module -- Bastl Instruments Skis Dual decay

Snare:
Hexinverter Mutant Bassdrum -- 808 Mutant snare Drum (used for processing the OSC303 and towards the end on its own)

Clap:
Hexinverter Mutant Clap -- 808 Mutant Clap Drum (used for processing the OSC303)

Some other notes
At 2:40 I am using the OSC303 bonus waveform, the not so triangle, triangle not available on the original 303 and I think sounds amazing."

Published on Mar 24, 2017 intellijel

"First taste of the Intellijel Shifty voice allocator / note hocketing module.
Metropolis sequence is being processed by Shifty to generate three voice controls. Voice #1 is an Atlantis through Springray, Voice #2 and 3 are Shapeshifters via Polaris filters. Background drums from Acidlab Miami. Everything running through the Intellijel Cylonix Rainmaker. Just a quick taste of making some interesting melodic stuff that is pseudo polyphonic."

intellijel jellysquasher dub

Published on Mar 24, 2017 intellijel

"A little jam using the Acidlab Miami (TR-808 clone) being processed Springray reverb and then jellysquasher compressor module. Kick drum from Miami is split so that it is mixed in dry and also used to side chain. The chords come from Shapeshifter being processed by polaris, rainmaker, springray and then the jellysquasher too. Bass line is from the Atlantis being sequenced by Metropolis and slaved to the Miami accent out."

Lavender - Carved Intentions

Completely filmed in black and white by french producer Elliott Morin, Carved Intentions’s aesthetics underline the minimalism of Lavender’s moody electronic music, and creates a strikingly unsettling film noir atmosphere. Metzger Archimedes: A Bipolar CV Modulator & Limiter Eurorack Module on Kickstarter

The Metzger Technologies Archimedes was first featured here back in July of 2016.

It is now on Kickstarter - looks like it reached the goal of $3000 as well.

"Archimedes is a Bipolar Dynamic Signal Manipulator that is designed for the Eurorack Modular Synthesizer format.

The module is 10hp wide, 38mm deep, and the current draw is: 90mA on +12 / 90mA on -12.

Archimedes takes in a +5 / -5 volt signal (Oscillator, LFO, Noise, Random) and processes the positive and negative sections separately with CV control over everything, and is AC / DC capable as there is no filtering on all of the inputs and outputs.

It is comprised of 3 linear sections: 2 Bipolar Rectifiers -> Offset -> 2 Bipolar Limiting Rails

This module has a lot of uses: CV able bipolar half wave rectification over the positive and negative sections of a bipolar input signal, full wave rectification, VCA, bipolar VCA, crossfader, offset, CV able bipolar limiting rails, feedback path destroyer, wave shaping, distortion, asymmetrical & symmetrical clipping, and more.

The final prototype (pilot) for Archimedes has been thoroughly tested and is ready for launch and all the design work has been finished, but we need to spend a fair amount of money to buy components in quantity, PCBs, as well as get anodized aluminum metal photo front panels.

All of our vendors are lined up and ready to provide us with parts and the only thing we're waiting on are people like you to help us manufacture Archimedes. After the launch we are hoping to introduce more Metzger Technologies products and increase our global dealer network.

Risks and challenges

The risks and challenges that come with completing Archimedes are quite small, as we have a working prototype. The design has been thoroughly tested over many months and the current version of the prototypes have been built, tested and confirmed that they are ready for fabrication. All the components have been sourced and ready for purchase.

We have experienced & qualified assembly technicians on standby here in Portland, Oregon USA, where your module will be manufactured with the utmost care and respect. All employees of Metzger Technologies have experience in the music technology business, with our Founder / President having nearly a decade's worth and our talented Electrical Engineers having an accumulated 50+ years under their belts. We do not foresee any problems coming up that we can't solve rather easily."
