Fairlight CMI III MFX

Published on Apr 8, 2017 100 Things I Do

"Finally I have the massive Fairlight Keyboard to go along with the rest of my Fairlight system!

My CMI III was originally a factory development system, because of this there was no need for a musical keyboard at the time. This has ended up posing an interesting problem.

Just as Peter Wielk was finishing up my Keyboard and was about to send I noticed the keyboard power and serial connector has never been cabled or wired.

It has a mix of +/- 20v and +/-10v and from what Peter told me... get it wrong and it will blow a lot of fuses and potentially the analog power supply!

Lucky for me Peter had a spare power back panel he was able to send me in return for mine! Thanks Peter!

The arrival of the keyboard has created the need to reorganise the studio and change a few things around. I thought it would be easy, but as I write this I am still cleaning up and finding places for things! (Its taken over 2 days so far).

So this brings me to this video. I wanted to release something this week up keep up the 'video every weekend' pace. Its just some multitrack noodling once the Fairlight was set up. As next week is the 1 year anniversary of weekly content (and me actually paying attention to the channel) I promise to do something a little more special.

Hope you enjoy."

Dragon Drum Machine

Published on Apr 6, 2017 thIIIrd musique

This one is from the maker of Wiisp.

"Jam compilation with the Android app Dragon. Download free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

Dragon is a drum machine built to quickly and easily make glitch, distorted, lofi drum beats and manipulate them live. The drums are simple and flexible, capable of some classic drum machine sounds and also new weirdness. Each is synthesized in real time and sent to a multi effect rig with variable speed stutter, bit reduction, pitched feedback delay and a resonant bandpass filter. The drums are triggered by a four pattern step sequencer. Patterns can be changed individually for each drum or triggered together for quick pattern switches for all drums.

Features:
Four pattern sequencer with local and global pattern control
BPM control with nudging
Save/load presets
Three drum synths:
-Bass
-Snare
-Hi-hat
Effects rig:
-Asymmetry and tanh(x) for tape like distortion
-Pitched feedback delay
-Retrigger (aka stutter/buffer) with variable speed and reversing
-Bit reduction
-Down-sample
-Reverb
-Resonant bandpass filter

Preset management requires permission for file storage read/write (optional on Android M+)

Unpaid version disables preset saving and audio recording

Audio recording coming soon. Possible future ports to desktop and ios. Made with Pure Data and libGDX"

Update: now on eBay as well.

"One of the rarest and most impressive keyboards ever built, a must have vintage synthesizer for the serious collector. It's in nice shape and working great. Only issue to mention is the pneumatic springs that hold the front up don't work, but you can use it fine the way it is, and should be easy enough to repair if desired. All knobs, sliders, buttons, disk drive and outputs are working as they should. There is some wear as to be expected for an old synth, so be sure to check out the pictures to make sure you like it."

Multitimbral synths - layering complex voices with Waldorf MicroQ

Published on Apr 8, 2017 NONsynth

"Using the Waldorf MicroQ to answer the question - what good is a multitimbral synth anyway?

This answer is: layering complex voices.

A multitimbral synth like the Waldorf MicroQ/Blofeld, Access Virus, KingKorg, etc, gives the option of stacking voices to create patches that are complex but still sound cohesive, coming from the a single synth."

"PPG Wave 2.2 synthesizer w/ road case, manual, and cassette (!!) backup tape. Circa 1982-1984. Ultra rare. Will need work to restore full functions.Unit powers up fine, but only produces some intermittent sounds when the keys are engaged. Had this unit restored to full functionality prior to 2009, though with the advent of the Great Depression lost the business and the warehouse studio and all the gear has been in storage since. Keyboard utilizes a weird pin and wire trigger system (similar to the old Vox Continentals), suspect that's where at least some the problems might be. Originally thought the output was compromised when I first fired it up from storage, but managed to get intermittent tones from the unit after checking it out again, so I don't believe that is the issue. Some of the keys stick when depressed, and of those that do some will return to position after a few moments, others need to be repositioned manually..."

"EDP WASP SYNTHESIZER

& SPIDER SEQUENCER

ELECTRONIC DREAM PLANT

Serviced Mar'17

Legendary EDP Wasp by Chris Huggett, quirky looking toylike synth but a serious piece of kit, capable of rip roaring synth lines, fat bass...just straight up dirty with so much character. Great for all types of Electronic music.

This was recently serviced by SRS in Mar'2017 and is studio ready.

EDP Wasp

Casing is in very good condition with a minor crack on one corner as seen in the picture.

One rubber foot is missing on the underside.

EDP Spider

The casing is in good cosmetic condition with very minor wear and tear.

The underside has the battery cover missing and also 3 rubber feet.

Not many synths will come close to the Wasps tone quality and an even rare chance to grab the Spider sequencer which so rarely comes up make this thing a joy to use and will surely get those creative juices flowing!"

"Rare, Collectable and Awesome Synth.
Unique sounding, Tuff, Bubbly, Buzzy, Fun and Swarmy.
Can be extremely powerful, dark & heavy.
It really does come up with very different sounds to all other synths ive owned & heard.
I am (obviously) quite enthused by the WASP.

Great thing is it sounds fantastic all the time! Very wide sweet spots on this, cant go wrong.
WASP is up there with my 3 faves, AKS, ARP2600 & WASP.
I am only selling as i have two (because i like it so much) this is the last of my inner collection which im willing to part with.

Note:
Wasp was working perfectly approx 2 years ago, i have recently taken out of storage and after testing have noticed the keyboard does not respond to touch. It does however trigger note and gate via link port (i use kenton with WASP expansion).

I will play with keyboard sensitivity adjustment and update if it starts working but at this stage is sold as keyboard not working to touch."
