KORG iMono/Poly By KORG INC.

"*** Special Sale for a limited time to celebrate the debut of KORG iMono/Poly (33% OFF) until Sep 30! ***

Reviving a classic KORG analog synthesizer.

The iconic 4VCO synthesizer, reborn on iOS.

The Mono/Poly analog synthesizer appeared in 1981 at the same time as the acclaimed Polysix. Not only was it a fat-sounding four-VCO monophonic synthesizer, it featured a revolutionary design that allowed it to also be used as a four-voice polyphonic synthesizer, which helped cement its legendary status.

Synthchaser #076 - ARP Omni 2 Wood Side Panels

Published on Aug 22, 2017 Synth Chaser

"I was restoring an ARP Omni 2 and one of the leather sides was damaged, as they often are, so I made some replacement side panels from hardwood. In this video I pop them on we see what it looks like when it's done. My video camera is lousy, and doesn't do the wood justice, but you can see the panels better in the stills at the end.

I have Omni synthesizers and parts available at my website. I also repair and restore ARPs and other vintage synths for customers around the world."

AtomoSynth Mochika XL

"This synth features one analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) with a huge pitch range, from subsonic to ultrasonic sound.

Glide effect with a large range for radical portamento effect.

One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect or the VCF for a tremolo effect, creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds.

White noise generator that triggers the VCO and can create percussion like sounds, or mix the the noise with the VCO.

Also, it has a built in vactrol based Low Pass and High Pass Filter with cut off and peak controls and a envelope generator with decay control to create a wide sort of timbres and sound possibilities.

Built in 8 step sequencer with global gate time control, note on/off switch and pitch knob for each step.

The built in sequencer also has 8 playing modes and 4 gate arpegiator modes:
Oscillator mode, the Mochika becomes a drone oscillator, you can switch in real time between the 8 notes tweaking a knob.
4 step, 6 step, and 8 step sequencer mode.
4 step, 6 step, and 8 step forth and back sequence mode.
Random mode, it generates a large pseudo random sequence, seed of chaos!!!
Gate Arpegiator with 4 patterns, you can switch in real time between the 8 notes tweaking a knob. and sync it by midi
CV and Gate Outputs to control other analog synthesizers.

The Mochika XL features a MIDI input to sync it any midi device sending midi clock signals, the Mochika can sync 1, 2, 4 and up to 8 times the tempo of the master clock midi device.
All the Mochika sequencer modes, except oscillator mode, can be midi synchronized.

Also the instrument is lighted with 1 bright green led that indicates the LFO Rate, and 8 blue LED's to indicate the step that is being played. Very useful when you play it on a dark stage.
The Analog Sequencer is packed in arugged steel case with all the potentiometers and switchers fixed to the case.
The instrument is powered by an external power supply (12V AC, 500mA)
Dimensions: 180mm(W), 215(D), 82mm(H. included rubber feet and knobs)"

"The NYX Rules" - Dreadbox Nyx, Elektron Analog Heat

Published on Aug 22, 2017 Lost For Words

"Dreadbox Nyx - First Play. Picked up this awesome synth today. This is just a quick test. Playing it paraphonically in one take. VCOs split routing to the two filters then half way through I cut out the filter altogether and route the VCOs direct to the VCA with only onboard reverb. A touch of external ping-pong delay which stereo-izes the reverb etc. then through the Analog Heat for a little EQ and drive."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #36: Korg Prophecy - Song 1

Published on Aug 22, 2017 Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the first song with the Korg Prophecy. It's a monophonic synthesizer with algorithms for Virtual Analog, Variable Phase Modulation similar to FM synthesis, and physically modeled brass, reed, and plucked string instruments. So, let's see how well it performs for ambient music ;-)

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Prophecy - Alesis Ampliton - Elektron Analog Heat - Boss Tera Echo - TC Electronic Mimiq - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - DigiTech Polara. The used fx varied depending on the recorded track.

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track.

Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)"

Future Sound Systems Introduces Gristleizer Based Eurorack Modules

via Future Sound Systems

"FSS is proud to announce a new series of Eurorack modules based around The Gristleizer, a coveted effects unit used and adapted by Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle. Originally based around Roy Gwinn's "Guitar Effects Pedal" design, as published in the July 1975 issue of "Practical Electronics" magazine, The Gristleizer was used throughout Throbbing Gristle's recorded and live catalogue, and is seen as a vital component of their pioneering sound.

Four decades on, after several calls from the Eurorack community, FSS met with Chris Carter and Roy Gwinn to discuss the potential of an updated Gristleizer circuit. From one module came four; the oscillator, filter and VCA sections of the original "Guitar Effects Pedal" circuit have become their own distinct modules, whilst a pre-amplifier inspired by Jonny Reckless' discrete FET-based designs has been added to the line-up. The Gristleizer series, therefore, not only presents the sound of the original effects units, but also additional features which ensure optimum compatibility with modern Eurorack systems and artistic workflows. This has all been made possible through Roy Gwinn's meticulous attention to detail, coupled with Chris Carter's expertise as a pioneering electronic artist.

Further information on each module is available below. FSS is now taking pre-orders for the four individual modules for release and shipping in November 2017.

"TG2 Gristleizer Generator

The Gristleizer Generator has been designed to replicate the original functionality of the Gristleizer's oscillator section, but with many new additions. With a brand new design from Roy Gwinn, the TG2 Generator is far more stable than its predecessor, featuring 1V/Oct tracking amongst other features. However, as with its original, the TG2 spans from low frequency ranges into the audible range, and makes for a killer bass oscillator as well as a fully featured LFO.

The core of the oscillator is based around a shape-variable ramp generator, with similar functionality to that found in the Korg MS Modulation Generators. Here, the Shape control takes the Ramp output from a descending sawtooth, through triangle, to an ascending sawtooth shape. This varying ramp waveform is then input to a wave-folder, which outputs both Fold and Pulse waveforms, based on how the Gain and Offset controls are set. Lastly, the original ramp waveform is fed into a comparator for the Clock output, the pulsewidth of which is variable using the Shape control.

The Gain and Offset of the TG2's wave-folder are both voltage controllable, as well as its Frequency via an attenuated control input and a 1V/Oct control input. The TG2 can also be reset by external sources via the Sync input.

Price: £200.00 + shipping"

Xaoc Exploration | Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Published on Aug 22, 2017 Lightbath

"This video is break from the norm. It was recorded before the eclipse and presents a glimpse into a process of exploration.

The basic idea of this patch is to use Drezno & Lipsk to mangle the audio coming from two ER-301 synth voices (the percussive sounds), which is shaped by Maths envelopes shaped by Batumi and Voltage Block. The bass is Tides, and the lead is another ER-301 synth voice. All voices played by Voltage Block. Praga mixes all three voices and sends to Chronoblob delay, which outputs to Kamieniec. Tirana II handles some panning.

Audio recorded straight to camera."

In this patch I used the Cinnamon (LP) to filter a wavefolded (Intellijel uFold) Micro Braids (ZLPF mode) which is being sequenced by René. Used the Erica Synths PICO DSP for some stereo delay. The Cinnamon is surprisingly versatile and sounds totally unique, really love this special kind of dirtiness about it, It is probably one of the best sounding filters I got my hands on so far."

Vermona tVCF-Extension Eurorack Module

via Vermona

"twinVCFilter is a versatile filter module itself. But there are times when you need some additional features like a notch-filter. In this case tVCF-Extension is your friend.

Individual Filter Outputs
tVCF-Extension has got individual outputs for each filter type of twinVCFilter’s filter-sections and even adds notch outputs. You can use all outputs at the same time.

Polarizers
As you might know, twinVCFilter already has two CV-inputs per filter section. We thought that might not be enough for complex patches, so tVCF-Extension has additional CV-inputs to modulate the cutoff-frequencies. Each with a dedicated polarizer for attenuating and inverting incoming voltages.
With these you will get new modulation possibilities like controlling both cutoff-frequencies at the same time in parallel or contrary.

To get even more out of the module you can separate the polarizer section from the cutoff-frequencies and use them independently of twinVCFilter. They also can generate a voltage on their own.

tVCF-Extension is an elegant and even slim way to extend the vast possibilities of twinVCFilter."
