Innovations In Sound Synthesis - NHT Synthesis

"In this video I explain another method of synthesizing sounds I've evolved - Nested Hyberbolic and Trigonometric functions synthesis - and also demonstrate the free synthesizer I created which implements the technique. You can modify any of the included 'preset' expressions (which emulate a range of 'bread and butter' as well as unusual/unique sounds) or define your own expressions from scratch, so there's plenty of scope for sonic experimentation and discovery. Synth available soon from my site. Enjoy!"

Eurorack Improv no2

Published on Aug 23, 2017 Richard Lacy

"A fun patch with Sarah Mac, which were enjoying playing with enough to share…

This started as an ambient idea with Rings, but it got out of hand! Mixed straight to stereo, no overdubs or fiddling afterwards. The only computer involvement was to record the stereo audio from the little Mackie mixer.

Geek notes below.

Main clock is the Doepfer Dark Time Sequencer.

1. DarkTime - Rings (pitch, strum and structure from the Dark Time) - AQA Dual SVS in band pass - Z-DSP (valhalla).
Modulation: Maths Ch1 - Rings Position. Maths Ch 4 - Z-DSP reverb time.
A-145 LFO - Z-DSP wet/dry mix.
2. Bass: Korg MS20. Pitch CV from Analogue Solutions SQ8. Gate from 4MS RCD
3. Bass Drum: Atlantis triggered from an SQ8
4. Descending ambient line: Metropolis - A-110 VCO (saw) - Dave Smith Curtis Filter
5. Radio Music Voice: Turing Machine - RadioMusic - A-120 VCF
6. Radio Music frozen in Clouds. Triggered from a clock divider as a percussive element.
7. Low warbly sound: 4MS RCD - AS EG - A-110 pitch CV - (saw) Shapeshifter pitch input - AM Snowfall VCF. Not sure how the Shapeshifter was configured, but it was a nutty little sound on its own!)
8. 4MS SMR - 4MS DLD. The SMR is receiving modulation from Tides and a Moog CP-251
9. 80s-style synth line. This one is a bit nuts… The Stepper Acid - (pitch) two A-110 VCOs - AS Unity Mixer - A-106 VCF (LP) - Veils VCA. Then…
Stepper Acid gate - A-143-1 Complex EG. Ch 1 - Veils. CH2 and Ch3 are firing in series and modulating the filter.
There's a second chain here, starting with the inverted output of the AS Unity Mixer - A-105 SSM VCF.
Stepper Acid accent output - A-143-2 Quad ADSR. Three channels, firing in series, feeding the three CV inputs on the filter. The overall effect of this makes a nice complex sound for a simple synth sequence.

All the audio went into a little Mackie desk. 2 FX sends:
Aux 1: Deeper Spring Reverb
Aux 2: Moogerfooger Clusterflux.

We could have done more with this patch to refine it, but really it’s just a Jam!
Thanks for watching."

"Make Noise Black and Gold Shared System --- in brand new condition! I bought this new a couple of months ago, so it is a summer 2017 make with the Morphagene instead of the Phonogene. I also added the Brains module and the Tempi module to this system(both are black and gold so match perfectly), which I think add a lot of function to this already incredible system.

Auction includes the Black and Gold Shared system, the original power supply, the bag of Make Noise patch cables unopened, the Brains and Tempi modules, and the extra blank panels that were removed to add the two extra modules."

Audio Damage Re-Releases AD041 914 MK 2 FIXED FILTER BANK

via Chris Randall, of Audio Damage:

"Due to popular request (okay, really due to the fact that Junkie XL keeps flogging it in his YouTube channel) we are returning our venerable 914 Fixed Filterbank plugin, first released in late 2005, to our catalog.

If you're not familiar with it, 914 is a clone of the Moog 914 Fixed Filter Bank module, with some moderate context-specific extensions. This update to Mk 2 adds AAX and VST3 formats, as well as a resizable vector-based GUI, a cross-platform preset manager, and an extra control called 'OFFSET,' that will move the center frequencies of all the bands up or down 10% of their base frequency. We've also extensively reworked the summing network, and added some soft clipping here and there, as a problem with the original was the ludicrous amount of gain it could add. This was a challenge to less-experienced producers, so we've basically added some idiot-proofing."

"I didn't get any video from the Brighton Modular Meet this year but I did take a few photos. So as usual when I have a little photo slideshow to do I took that opportunity to sketch out a little musical idea that's sat in my mind for a while. So selfishly this is my way to get some musical ideas out in-between all the other work going on."

"EMS Synthi A --- In excellent condition!! Fully working and looks fantastic! Comes with full helping of patch pins, the Digitana Electronics Synthi Matrix Interface, 2 pin to mod jack cables and the power cable.
The 3 mods done(one on each oscillator) are factory mods and allow the user to modulate the "shape" of each oscillator. A tech who specializes in Synthis told me that this Synthi is a "MKIII" and that it has a reverb driver based on 741 + germanium transistors(great sounding), a 5-pole filter and a MC1496 ringmod."

Vintage Roland GR 500 Guitar Synth System

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Vintage Origional Roland GR 500 Synth System, 1977/1978 one of the first guitar synths, if not the first, this auction includes:

GR 500 floor or tabletop synth module, 'les paul' style guitar controller ( very heavy) in Origional guitar case, and Origional Roland multi pin connector ( multi cable connects guitar to synth module, only output is from synth module, can not be used as a stand alone guitar)

Guitar switches and pots do turn off and on, and vary the LED/ level of the : Guitar - Polyensanble - Bass -Solo Melody - and EXT Synth sections.

The guitar output functions fine, I'm not sure if synth sections are workin, the multi pin cable functions or there would be no guitar sound. I do not have the skills to understand if synth sections/ tracking is working, the units power up and indicator lights work accurately - but I CAN NOT PROMISE that the synth sections are currently working SOLD AS IS. It is probable this unit needs servicing, but having said that: the GR-500 is a very rare bird.

The synth module is in very very good cosmetic shape ( 1977/1978)
The multi cable is good (1977/1978)
The hard shell guitar case is fine (1977/1978)
The guitar ( controller) looks almost new, looks beautiful ( just missing one small nut from one toggle switch) (1977/1978)
The synth unit has a connected power cable, does not include a manual .

Parts of this system are working - but I can not promise the whole system is working"

Modular Synth - Self Generating Drone Music - Doepfer A-143-4 and Friends

Published on Aug 23, 2017 isvisible / isinvisible

"Here's another of my self generating drone type pieces that's centred around the Doepfer A-143-4 Quad VC/LFO/VCO.

It's basically controlling everything (apart from the little bass sequence that comes in every now and then), including it's best mate, the Doepfer A-143-2 Quad ADSR, which is then triggering further events via it's end of A, D and R outputs.

Up - Married Life // PIXAR MONTH

Published on Aug 23, 2017 Ace Waters

"This was the hardest song to arrange. I changed my mind several times in the process, wanting to make sure that I captured not only the emotional resonance of the original, but in a way that really connected with me. In the end, I opted for a slower arrangement. One that might not follow the exact flow of the original, but still attempts to capture all of the moments and emotions. I hope you like it. I put a ton of work into making this exactly how I wanted it, and I hope it shows."

KORG MS-10 + SQ-1 ~ Will They Pair? Ep.25

Published on Aug 23, 2017 once upon a synth

"In this video I pair the Korg MS-10 with the Korg SQ-1. The MS-10 is a vintage analog monophonic synthesizer made by Korg in the 80s. The SQ-1 is a modern CV and MIDI sequencer which is a nod to the classic SQ-10 which was a companion of the MS family. In this video I use the CV outputs of the SQ-1 to control both the notes and some CV parameters of the MS-10. I hope you enjoy this combination of old and new gear. Throughout the video I'll sometimes process the sound through a ValhallaDSP Room reverb plugin. Finally, towards the end I include a Maxon AD-900 vintage delay pedal."
