New Moog Synth - Geert Bevin, Amos Gaynes - Designing and Implementing Embedded Synthesizer UIs

Geert Bevin, Amos Gaynes - Designing and Implementing Embedded Synthesizer UIs with JUC Published on Nov 22, 2017

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

A new product they can't go into is mentioned. Further below is a video by Geert Bevin featuring JUCE GUI on Linux running on a Raspberry Pi. Although Moog is known for their analog synths, they of course have already delved into digital synthesis via their acclaimed iOS apps and the Theremini. It will be interesting to see what they introduce at NAMM next year.

"Designing and implementing embedded synthesizer UIs with JUCE

Geert Bevin, Senior Software Engineer, Moog Music
Amos Gaynes, Product Design Engineer, Moog Music

JUCE has become an ideal platform to develop embedded UI applications. Moog engineering discusses C++ JUCE front-end application design on top of streamlined Linux distributions. This talk focuses on practical solutions with code examples, including: maintainable user-interface and user-experience design, code and application architecture, unit and functional testing, efficient message handling and dispatch, domain-specific interfaces, APIs promoting consistency and correctness, patch storage and retrieval, and application-specific scripting.

Presented at ADC 2017, Code Node, London."

Raspberry PI 3 super small and fast custom Linux distribution for Audio and MIDI Published on Aug 11, 2017 Geert Bevin

"Been working on an embedded Raspberry PI 3 project with audio/MIDI.

It is available as open source from here:
https://github.com/gbevin/erpiam

First steps were getting the smallest possible Linux distribution working with full LCD, mouse, keyboard, audio and MIDI support ... and running one full-blown JUCE GUI application. It boots up in just a couple of seconds with a customizable boot screen, pretty neat I think!"

"Repairing another customer's ARP Pro Soloist. This one had very few patches working when it came in due to bad switches and a faulty VCA. Also engaging the Wow touch sensor effect would short circuit the keyboard and cause there to be no output at all.

ARP Pro Soloists and parts are available through my website. I also repair and restore ARPs and other vintage synths for customers around the world."

Noise Engineering Integra Solum & Manis Iteritas Tutorials

Published on Nov 26, 2017 Noise Engineering

"Quick tour of the functions of the new Integra Solum. IS is an 8HP dual rotating clock divider with 16 trigger outs in two sets of eight. Clock & reset the two sides independently or use a single input that normals to both sides. IS switches between three modes and an encoder adjusts the offset of each side. Bonus modes add randomization options.

Manis Iteritas tutorial

"Quick tour of the new Manis Iteritas. MI is a 10HP voice based on the architecture of Basimilus Iteritas, but designed to be more gritty and aggressive. It accomplishes this by using only sawtooth waves that are manipulated, modulated, and distorted through a rethought interface. Manis is suitable for leads, bass lines, drums, darkness, detuned madness, or pure mayhem."

Moog drums & percussion and Minimoog - #6

Published on Nov 26, 2017 noddyspuncture

"Clocking the sequencers at different rates - via my Atari and Akai S2000 sampler. They are responding to woodblock samples... the 700's sequencer is steady - the Q960 is slower and varied here and there. At a few points I switched the modulation of the 701module to 'Ext' - and used the 702's excitation oscillator which is an interesting effect...!"

"This is a mint condition two-month old, perfectly running TTSH v2.0 2600 synthesizer with Duratex case. Professionally built by a local synth shop and no issues. It has the oscillator sync mod and an external power brick.

For those of you who don't know, this is an analog clone - no SMD - of the ARP 2600 synthesizer scaled down to 75% of the size. It uses all through hole components. I had the case done with a Duratex finish which looks perfect and is much better than the standard tolex."

1972 PAIA 2720 Synthesizer Manual and PAIA Catalog #1072 with Prices

"'Using the PAIA 2720 Synthesizer' manual from 1972. In very good condition. 27 pages. Check out the photos for all the instructions and details on Altitude, Amplitude, filters, wave patterns, etc. Also, a PAIA Electronics Catalog no.1072 (19 pages). This has the prices and descriptions of all kinds of electronic devices such as a Rotating Speaker Simulator, Drummer Boy, Thumpa Thumpa Box, Wah Wah and more. I believe this is the introduction year (1972), of the 2720 Synthesizer and so these are first time issues from PAIA. Both are about 6" x 9". The catalog has a crease down the middle, but otherwise is in real good condition. There is nothing to report on the manual as it is also in real good condition. They are marked as used, but don't look like they have ever been used. 45 years old and the only set we have."

Technics SX-WSA1 Acoustic Modeling Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Only about 600 of these were made and are somewhat difficult to find. This is the Technics Wsa1 acoustic modeling synthesizer! A very unique workstation from the 90s that was light-years ahead of its time. This was very similar to the mythical Yamaha VP1 which is basically a unicorn of a synthesizer since there were only 3 sold.

Sounds:
The wsa1 was an acoustic modeling synthesizer that emulates acoustic nuances and features resonators and drivers to drastically change different sounds. The keyboard really shines with pads and orchestral sounds.
The soundcloud link below demonstrates some sounds from it. All sounds came from this keyboard plus some reverb and chorus.

Features:
I can't fully describe what this thing can do but it features a built in sequencer that can be manipulated in real time. With 64 note polyphony almost anything is possible. Has multiple editing parameters.

The wsa was released in 1995 with a hefty price tag of $5,000! But now they go for less but are pretty uncommon since they are fairly unknown.

Condition:
Every button and knob is working as a new one."

Tetrapad: Chapter 3 - Keyboard Mode

Published on Nov 25, 2017 intellijel

"Chapter 3 introduces Tetrapad's Keyboard Mode. Here you can select from 12 scales, and play a chord with every note of the scale. You can also rotate the note assignments, invert chords, and use portamento!

Tetrapad is a versatile, multi-dimensional, touch-sensitive control surface for Eurorack. Each of its four pads use force sensing resistors to respond to both the vertical position of your finger and its pressure. Four push encoders and a shift function give you even more tactile control over your modular system.
Tetrapad operates in numerous modes — each of which configures the module to perform a specific control task. Through these modes, Tetrapad can emulate a bank of faders; a voltage storage device; a finger drumming surface; a chord generator; an 8-key keyboard; four independent LFOs; or an 8-switch panel. The chosen mode determines what type of signal (CV, note, trigger, gate, etc.) is sent from each of Tetrapad’s eight independent outputs, while its multitude of multi-colored LEDs keep you informed of exactly what’s happening within each mode.
Tetrapad automatically remembers how you’ve configured each of its modes, and retains these settings when powered off. By default, Tetrapad automatically saves these settings every minute, or whenever you change modes. This makes Tetrapad ideal for live performance, since you know it will always power up with your configurations intact."
