While the Synclavier will return in other views I want to take a look at the u-he Repro-5 and the Arturia Buchla Music Easel in the next few clips. Hopefully before the end of the year! :D"

"From PPG, to strings and all else in between including evolving pads and an incredible on-board sequencer, network-enabled automatic OS and patch updates, and so so much more... perhaps the most pinnacle synth to behold and one of the most musical and inspiring keyboard experiences to sit down to and get lost in. This is as close to synth nirvana as it gets!"

Moog 1125 Sample & Hold - home brew DIY...

Published on Dec 16, 2017 noddyspuncture

"So, here's the first video of my 1125 sample & hold module... I got it working today. Only using one channel of CV here, just the pitch for now. It's all working apart from the noise generator - the noise chip was getting warm so I removed it while I was debugging a few faults I had. One IC I used - the 3080 - was faulty and would you believe, a transistor array IC that I bought brand new had one transistor in it that was open circuit..!"

Techno Modular Session Jam 001

Published on Dec 16, 2017 JurekPrzezdziecki

"Streamlined my setup for fully improvised techno system with one voice (Pico Voice), Pico Drums and Chimera. I use 3 Shakmat's modules to control the sequencers and looping CVs. The complexity and variety comes from the way the two “algo-rhythmic" dual trigger generators interact. Bishop's Miscellany is a dual stepped CV/Gate recorder that loops improvised sequences. Enjoy."

Percussa SSP PCBs Now in Production & Front Panel Design Finalized

via Percussa

"A lot of progress has been made in the development of the Percussa SSP! You can find the summary below. If you want the full story with all the eye candy, head over to our Kickstarter updates.

After the initial first layout pass I finalized the layout of the SSP. This took quite a while as I had to go through a list of 40 pages of TODOs, checking countless details of the layout, double checking all the mechanical details with the 3D model of the SSP in my CAD software, before making production files to be sent off to the manufacturer who produces our PCBs.

Around Nov. 30th we received the PCBs from the factory and immediately checked the quality, and the mechanical fit of the components which go through the front panel, as well as the display which sits behind the front panel. Everything looked great, so we kitted parts for a small prototype run and sent the boards and parts off to our subcontractor who does the assembly. You can see below a few photos from the inspection we did. The assembled prototypes are planned to arrive somewhere next week (around Dec 21st).

Front panel design finalized, prototypes ordered
The past weeks we also finalized the front panel design, around the time the PCBs were in production. We sent off the design to a metalwork factory who machined the front panels for us based on our 3D design. They are machined from aluminium, and will be anodized black. Those who backed the kickstarter for a customized version of the SSP will have the option to choose a different colour and/or additional engraving (more on that later). Below you can see a photo of the front panels (not sandblasted, anodized or engraved yet). The front panels will arrive around the time the PCB prototypes are assembled, next week.

Pre-order

If you want an SSP, you can place a pre-order on our website. If you do this before December 31st, you’ll receive your SSP immediately after the backers receive theirs. If you have any questions, just reply to this email.

Thanks!
Bert & Celine"

John Bowen Solaris 1.4.0 OS Update

via http://johnbowen.com

"New version 1.4.0 OS Released - Dec. 15, 2017

Just in time for Christmas, I am really happy to announce another major OS update to cap off 2017 - v1.4.0 is released today.

Here's the new features added with v1.4.0 OS:

1) A reworking of the voice handler for significantly better performance.

2) All parameter communication has been completed to work as SysEx commands. NRPNs are no longer supported (and were never fully implemented previously anyway). A complete SysEx implementation document is available online in the User Guides section.

3) A "Poly Chain" mode has been added, so you can have multiple units slaved together for increased polyphony (i.e., 20 notes from 2 units).

4) Added the new parameter “LoadSamp” on the System page 1/2. When enabled, the Solaris will automatically load the first sample pool on bootup.

5) The following parameters were moved from the Home page 3/4 to the System page 2/2: VTIntensity, VTOffset, ATIntensity, ATOffset. Renamed some of the labels for the pedal parameters. Renamed VTIntens and ATIntens to VTCurve and ATCurve (because response curves are what they actually are).

6) The following parameters are now saved to the global init file: Polychain, VTCurve, VTOffset, ATCurve, ATOffset. This means they are no longer stored per preset.

7) Improved display and editing of time values above 1 second.

8 ) Since EG6 controls the overall shape of the sound, the Solaris now boots up with EG 6 selected.

9) After samples are loaded, the wave number is always reset to 1 in the Oscillator Wave display.

10) An extra parameter was added for the Osc modulation amount parameter when the destination is LinFM. This separated it from the amount parameter for Shape. Older presets will sound correct IF the destination is set to Shape. However, if the the preset uses destination LinFM, when the preset is loaded by an older OS the sound will not be the same because the Osc modulation amount will not be correct. Also note there is no way to make such a preset backward compatible by setting the Shape amount because the ranges for the two amount parameters are different.

11) Parameters for setting the MIDI Device ID and transmitting the current preset buffer added (important for Poly Chain mode).

12) Improved encoder acceleration for the following parameters: LFO rate, EQ frequency, Phaser Offset, Oscillator and Rotor NoTrack frequency.

Again, I want to thank Jim Hewes ('minorguy' in the Forum) for all the arduous work he did to get SysEx fully working! With over 1250 preset parameters (and numerous additional front panel controls) completed, a major block in writing complete proper software editors for the Solaris has been removed. While I understand that some DAW software (such as Studio One or Cubase) still have issues recording SysEx, the only other option would be to assign a selection of the 1250 parameters to available CC numbers. We will investigate this for a future OS release, and would appreciate feedback as to how owners end up using the new SysEx implementation.

Also note: the User Guide has not been fully updated yet, but should be ready soon."

PATTERN.4 ⧉ Tides, Rings, Clouds

Published on Dec 16, 2017 Comparative Irrelevance

"Please find enclosed Pattern 4.

Patch notes:

Tides and Rings make up the two voices. The pad sound is Rings, in the secret "Disastrous peace" mode (Google it), filtered by Ripples with some self-modulation for that grungy distortion sound. The arpeggio is Tides, in "Two bumps" mode (Parasite firmware addition).

The arpeggio notes are produced by a sine wave from PNW going through µScale. The output from µScale is also sampled by Kinks' S&H section at slower intervals, and that is what determines Rings' notes.

I'm mixing together the voices: I have both LP2 and BP2 outputs from Ripples available in the mixer, as well as the arp from Tides. And then it all goes through Clouds in the end.

Thanks for watching!"
