J.S. Bach's Fugue in G minor "Little" BWV 578 with synthesizers from Modal Electronics, DSI and Moog

Published on Dec 26, 2017 Sean Christopher - Music Composer

"The musical genius of J.S. Bach has had a huge influence over me ever since I started composing and any opportunity I get to show the works of Bach via today's synthesizer technology is always a pleasure.

Fugue in G minor, 'Little' BWV 578 was recreated by myself using 5 synthesizers- the Modal Electronics 002 & 008, Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 & OB-6, and the Moog Subsequent 37 CV."

This one spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

Radikal Technologies Accelerator: Yesterday changes nothing

Published on Dec 26, 2017 MIDERA

"Just messing around - this demo is a 'bell' type sound I created tonight. Anything you might perceive as aliasing is most likely the effect of significant phase modulation (ala typical FM synthesis). I was a bit nervous to post this, as some might see it as a weakness of the synth, but I chose to make the higher notes sound more distorted. This is a brilliant synth."

New Details and Specifications for the Upcoming Waldorf Quantum

"Waldorf is proud to announce a new chapter in their tradition of designing high-end ground breaking synthesisers. Starting with Waldorf’s famous wavetable technology developed decades ago, it was always a challenge to give our instruments a powerful flexible beating heart. Our digital oscillators coupled to the enormous power and efficient simplicity of our analog filters started the digital revolution back in the 80’s.

Quantum combines the raw power of a classic digital & analog hybrid synthesiser, with futuristic sounds that are only possible with today’s software synthesisers.

Its 3 Oscillators offer four synthesis algorithms each:

Waldorf-style Wavetables with the latest additions from Nave, including speech synthesis and wavetable generation from audio

Classic Synthesizer Waveforms with multiple waves for an ultra fat sounds right out of the oscillators

Granular Sampler with multi sampling plus traditional sampling mode

Resonator for virtual sound sculpting

The flexibility emanating from Quantum’s powerful oscillators and their interaction with one another is simply breath-taking. Never before has it ever been possible to create such a wide sonic bandwidth with one synthesizer. Stretching from classic analog, with precise sample playback, through to harsh or animated digital sounds, escalating all the way up to sound and sequence clusters, that can only be achieved with a modular synthesiser system.

Quantum’s beautiful ergonomic and intuitive user panel supports an artist’s workflow with a previously unknown elegance. The carefully crafted array of aluminium knobs and encoders surround an ultra hi-resolution multi touch display. Waldorf engineers spent many long hours perfecting the interaction between the display and the physical control elements. The stunning display is a highly flexible extension of the tactile experience, and is light-years ahead of any synthesiser currently on the market today.

To help understand functional correlations between one knob and another, each control knob is individually illuminated by a multi colour LED. This makes it instantly obvious when viewing complex settings and modulation settings, where related parameters can be adjusted quickly and efficiently. With the help once again of the gorgeous central display, precise settings can be handled with ease, much the same as the experience when using your cutting edge computer tablet.

When the Waldorf engineers decided to develop Quantum, little did they realise it would take several years of painstaking work. There were areas of Quantum that our years of experience with sound generation were bought to the fore. But Quantum is so powerful it took our team into uncharted territory, involving both sound and the way it was felt the musician would interact with it.

Quantum was designed and developed by our dedicated team in Germany. All essential components have been designed, manufactured and assembled here in Germany. This has allowed us to manufacture Quantum with an unparalleled build quality. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank a world class array of sound designers that have contributed to a multi-facetted factory sound set.

Doepfer A 160-5 Voltage Controlled Clock Multiplier / Ratcheting Controller pot wiring modification

Published on Dec 26, 2017 Vykaar Tones
Update: new video Aug 22, 2020

"Doepfer A 160-5 Voltage Controlled Clock Multiplier / Ratcheting Controller pot wiring modification to allow adjustment of the incoming CV level. As standard the pot has no effect when an external CV is input which I found unuseful. This simple modification requires lifting R17 at one end and and rewiring the pot connections - the picture at the beginning and the one at the end clearly show how to do it. The lifted end of the resistor goes to the pot wiper, the 2 holes where the pot was wired to are connected with a link and the right side of the pot is wired to where the resistor was lifted from. The left side of the pot is attached to ground and not altered and the function of the pot as a manual control when no CV jack is inserted is unaltered. In the video I am using the darktime sequencer to create random ratcheted notes. These are very useful modules and as you see I have two of them.
Thinking up this mod is the sort of thing devout atheists do on boxing day as a form of therapy. Peace to all."

Having fun making some patches on the Rev2.

Published on Dec 5, 2017 Analog Monoxide

"Not really a review or a demo, there's enough of those - and to be honest I often think the patches don't do it justice. But of course - that might just be my preference/taste.

So I'm just having fun making patches on the Rev2, and some improvised playing, and added some silly/hopefully informative comments underway, as well as a few thoughts on the instrument."

No. 9 || Moog Mother 32 Ambient

Published on Dec 25, 2017 Xo Xinh

"Continuing my one piece per week series with just moog mother 32s, this time with a touch of 'industrial' ambient.

Two melodies on each m32 were sequenced, melody of first m32 triggered start/stop of second m32's melody (Gate ➙ Run/Stop). The tempo difference between two m32s creates the counterpoint that fluctuates over the time, in other words, two sequences get phased in/out as the piece unfolds.

LFO Rate was tuned as bass tonic and modulates the VCF, which create a natural distortion of lower melody. This was used here and there during the piece for both units.

LFO Tri of second unit modulates Mix control of first unit alternating between VCO Square & LFO Tri + LFO SQ, while VCO Square's Pulse Width is continuously modulated by EG."

"Operationally: one of the six voices is acting up (very, very common with these units). I traced it as the #1 voice. The unit works perfectly for the first 15-20 minutes, then the bad voice starts crackling. Other than this bad voice chip, everything else on the synth works great, all the sliders, keys, outputs etc."

Replacement chips are available online, but you do need to unsolder the original and solder the new ones in either directly or via a socket for easier replacement later.

Arturia CMI V | Enjoying Fairlight sample library

Published on Dec 26, 2017 Woody Piano Shack

"Join me as we enjoy the Fairlight CMI sample library. The newly released Arturia CMI V includes 600 presets from the original CMI library, let's see if we can find and play some highlight sounds.

In 1980, the Fairlight CMI turned heads with the introduction of digital sampling. It was an expensive instrument, if memory serves me right about $100,000. It helped define the sound of the 80s. Now you can get this sound in a VST plugin, thanks to the newly released Arturia CMI V, part of the Arturial V Collection 6.

Hope you enjoy my demo slash tutorial of this plugin. I did."
