RMIF Elsita Soviet Electro

Published on Jan 15, 2018 Zachary Berry

"Got an RMIF Elsita analog drum module off eBay and have been playing around to see what it can do. They were apparently produced in Russia in the late 80s. Here I'm triggering it from the 707 - four of the 707 outs are going into the Elsita.

Here's a breakdown:

808 Snare: Volca Sample through Wedge reverb - nothing special about the wedge other than it looks cool :)
707 hats
All other drum sounds are from the Elsita. They are being ran through the Moog Werkstatt's VCF.
Bass: Volca Bass (with Logic's Echo plugin)
Pads: Alpha Juno (with the Valhalla Shimmer reverb plugin, played on the Keystep)
And the Flashback pedal wasn't used, it ended up being too much and I was too lazy to get a longer cable."

DOPPELGÄNGER/ Prophet-6, OB-6, System-8, Sub37 + More

Published on Jan 15, 2018 MR TUNA Music

"This time around JarJar Bass starts us off with another cool line from the Prophet 6, and then we come in with some 707 from the TR8 and some swelling arpeggios from the System-8. I'm sure there's some Juno-106 at some point, and then we get a classic Moog bass from my favourite patch on the Sub37.
Somewhere down the line we don some keys on the P6 and OB6 and then just get into the zone for a while. As always Squarp Pyramid is capturing the performance live, from the synths back to the synths!

"Jonte Knif is a genius designer of top-top-top-notch audio equipment. He makes some of the best mastering gear in the world, notably the unparalleled Soma equalizer. A few years ago he decided to put his mastery of electrical engineering and tube topology to the test by building an all-tube analog synthesizer, the Knifonium. The first batch of 6 saw two bought by Hans Zimmer (they are used subtly in the Interstellar soundtrack, and less subtly as a guest synth in the Blade Runner soundtrack). The second batch of 6 brought improvements to the routing and performance-based usability. This is from the second batch, and is currently one of 12 in the world - and the only one in this colour! (all the others are reddish wood, as opposed to this dark stain).

Simply put, this is the biggest sounding raw-sound I've ever heard from an instrument. The all-tube build allows you to overdrive various tube types at various points in the signal chain, layering nonlinearities into complex tones that react to your performance. And it's not just the core sound: there's a ton of performance tools, such as a buttery-smooth XY joystick that's assignable to tons of parameters, velocity sensitivity, aftertouch (also assignable to various things), a very shapeable LFO, and a second full assignable envelope besides the standard VCA. It's honestly absurd. The best instrument I've ever played.

This is a unique, rare piece that will add real tonal power and texture to your work. Take advantage of my momentary lapse in judgement and need for funds and grab this. Jonte will be building more, but the wait time is very long.

Includes the huge power supply, solid flight case, and a full set of extra tubes!"

Dialog Audio Announces SQ4 Sequence Processor Plug-In

"Dialog Audio unleashes unique sequenced modulation pattern possibilities with SQ4 Sequence Processor plug-in

COLOGNE, GERMANY: hot on the heels of its innovative MP3244 Modulation Processor synchronisation and modulation plug-in (and advancing update subsequently launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim), specialised performance tools developer Dialog Audio is proud to announce availability of its SQ4 Sequence Processor audio software plug-in — pushing processing boundaries beyond what has been previously possible with the creation of advanced sequences to modulate and synchronise audio hardware and software parameters from within a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) host application — as of January 15…

As implied by name, SQ4 Sequence Processor permits users to create unique sequenced modulation patterns — four sequences with up to 128 steps per sequence, so not so much one small step for man, but rather one giant leap for music-kind when it comes to the creation of advanced sequences to modulate and synchronise audio hardware and software parameters from within a DAW host application!
As such, the basic setup for most host applications is similarly straightforward, with only two tracks usually required. On one track the user needs to add SQ4 Sequence Processor itself, then add the target device — be that an external hardware or software instrument — to the second track, with a virtual MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) connection also needing to be made from the SQ4 Sequence Processor track to the target device track.

Thereafter, like its innovative MP3244 Modulation Processor software sibling, SQ4 Sequence Processor provides different connection capabilities (depending, of course, on the audio hardware setup it is being used with), which, interestingly, includes: controlling hardware synthesizers (or other hardware) with MIDI inputs via MIDI CC (Continuous Controller) messages, RPN (Registered Parameter Number) and non-RPN messages, or MIDI SysEx (System Exclusive) messages; modulating any analogue synthesizer capable of receiving CV (Control Voltage) signals simply by patching spare outputs from an audio interface (if DC-coupled) is perfectly possible, generating high-resolution audio rate CV modulation, or, alternatively, a MIDI-to-CV converter could always be pressed into play for any audio gear that can be controlled via CV. Owners of software-only setups need not feel left out of the picture, for SQ4 Sequence Processor can capably modulate soft synths and audio plug-ins within the host DAW to provide extended modulation possibilities.

Whatever way whatever user chooses to work, SQ4 Sequence Processor places a raft of fanciful features at their ever-more- expressive fingertips, including variable synchronisation options, which can be set from free running to hard sync. Note events can re- trigger a sequence and several running directions can be selected. SWING, SLEW (limiting), PHASE (offset), and GAIN controls can be adjusted to accommodate modulations for the target device.

The Immortal [NES] - Live on PO-28 and PO-32 Pocket Operators #jamuary2018

Published on Jan 15, 2018 tubesockor

"Live performance of an in-game song from the NES (Nintendo Education System 8-bit) game "The Immortal", using two Pocket Operators PO-28 & PO-32 from Teenage Engineering.

Quickly jammed in one take so figured it would match the #jamuary2018 flow of videos :)

The game music was originally composed by Douglas Fulton for the Apple IIGS, but a number of ports were made and C64-hero Rob Hubbard arranged some of them for NES (which my version is based on).

The PO-32 takes care of the bass line and some percussion (all sounds were created in Microtonic and then transferred to the PO). The PO-28 handles live playing and background melody."

MINIBRUTE 2 REVIEW – Everything You Need To Know!

Published on Jan 15, 2018 BoBeats

"Arturia are thrilled to announce the imminent release of a new synthesizer, one of three new products which will all be available at stores from late february 2018.

MiniBrute 2 is a 25-key analog monosynth with semi-modular architecture, bridging the gap between the traditional synthesizer instruments and the exciting world of modular. MiniBrute 2 shares many of the same iconic features that made its predecessor such a success, including mixable oscillators, the acidic Steiner-Parker filter, and the chaotic Brute Factor. While keeping many of its signature elements, the tone-shaping potential of MiniBrute 2 has been almost exponentially increased.

The reimagined MiniBrute now features semi-modular architecture, adding a comprehensive CV/Gate patch matrix that allows users to both rework its internal signal routing, but also expand into the blossoming world of modular. It also features the same high quality, aftertouch-enabled keybed found in their flagship MatrixBrute synth, making it a joy to play. Truly an instrument designed for musicians by musicians.

Arturia’s latest small-but-mighty monosynth is the successor to their debut analog instrument, the MiniBrute. The first incarnation was released in 2012, and turned the industry on its head, offering a unique, affordable analog synth experience with attitude.

MiniBrute 2 also features exciting new features that greatly expand its potential, both as the focal point of a creative studio, and as a road-ready performance platform. One of these features includes the new Arturia Link, an exciting innovation that will help unify and democratize your creative environment.

More information on the Link system and how it integrates with other devices will be released shortly. Stay tuned for more Arturia product announcements, and all of your questions shall be answered.

To get a good look at MiniBrute 2 in action, and to hear how it sounds, check out the official Arturia MiniBrute 2 announcement video, featuring London-based trip-hop act The Salvador Darlings.

To get hands on with all 3 of the new products, find Arturia at NAMM 2018. They’ll be at booth #11910."
