1 Beatseqr, 4 Tracks, and a Ton of Fun

YouTube via solarno72 | January 15, 2011 |
follow-up to this post
"This is my third video demonstrating Steve Cooley's handmade 16-step MIDI controller, the Beatseqr. In this video I am showing how you can use the Beatseqr to simultaneously send MIDI information to multiple tracks/instruments in Logic. Then, using a control surface I can toggle those different instruments on and off.

With the four programable patterns available in the Beatseqr this allows for potentially huge number of pattern/instrument combinations.

Beatseqr Logic Demo

YouTube via solarno72 | January 10, 2011 |

"This is part one of my testing of Steve Cooley's awesome handbuilt Beatseqr 16-step sequencer and MIDI controller. In parts one and two I am using the Beatseqr to trigger sounds from the default Ultrabeat sound bank.

Part one looks at the basic functions of the Beatseqr. Part two shows how I have used it to lay down a 'live' drum sequence during a studio project.

Thanks Steve!"

Making beats, having fun. It took about 10 minutes to create the sequences before I started, the rest is all live."

Using the Beatseqr with outboard MIDI hardware

YouTube via jonathangolub | November 09, 2010
http://www.beatseqr.com
"This is a video I made to demonstrate how the Beatseqr can be used to control outboard MIDI gear - in this case, an Emu ESI-32 sampler and a Moog with a Kenton MIDI-to-CV converter. I still haven't figured out how to assign the MIDI cc in the Beatseqr to a value like ModWheel, so this is still just a slice of what you can actually do. And I haven't modded or hacked anything either - this is an open source project, so I'm sure some of you could come up with some amazing stuff! I did use the 'chain' feature to create a 16-bar sequence, which was interesting. I also came up with an interesting workaround for basslines... I set 2 channels on the beatseqr to control the Moog, and then I programmed some notes on each channel, so I can control the note independently for each channel. About halfway through the video you can hear me changing the notes, 2 note bassline improv style. This thing is so fun. Doesn't it kind of look like "Thing" from the Addams Family is rocking beats?"

Beatseqr beat-tweaker inna dub garage stylee

YouTube via jonathangolub | October 26, 2010

"This is me playing around with Steve Cooley's amazing beatseqr hardware controller. I'm running it through a Macbook Pro, with Roxor and Steppa, the open-source software designed specifically for the hardware. The Macbook is sending MIDI out to an Emu ESI-32, and I'm also adding Space Echo, spring reverb and digital delay to individual tracks. I spent about 10 minutes beforehand programming the step sequencer, otherwise everything is live."
