Control Voltage Fair is New York City’s annual event dedicated to celebrating the modular synthesizer. Spanning multiple days, we curate synth makers and distributors to share their creations, inviting audiences to see, hear, touch, and talk about the modular synth. This fair is complemented by concerts featuring musicians at the forefront of hardware and voltage-controlled instrumentation.

Introduced in the 1960s, the modular synth has recently experienced a rebirth due to its affordability and sonic flexibility. CVF is an open forum inviting person-to-person interaction between maker, musician, and attendee. Interact with artists and tinkerers, share ideas, and explore the ins and outs of this limitless instrument!

The concert will take place on Friday, June 20th at THE LAB in Brooklyn - 315 Ten Eyck St and will feature live performances by Mark Verbos, Further Reductions, and Certain Creatures & Clay Wilson. Visuals will be provided by Brown Shoes Only. The fair follows on June 21st at the same location. Confirmed exhibitors include 4ms Company, Ciat-Lonbarde, Control, Keith McMillen Instruments, Make Noise, Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers, Shbobo, Snazzy FX, Steady State Fate, Synthesis Technology, Tiptop Audio, and Verbos Electronics. July 6: Fair day + Richard Devine, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Antenes at the Seaport
July 3 and 7: Workshops at Silent Barn
July 8: Gavin Russom at Le Baron

"Control Voltage Fair is New York City’s annual fair dedicated to celebrating the modular synthesizer. Spanning multiple days, we invite synth makers and distributors to share their creations, inviting audiences to see, hear, touch, and talk about the modular synth. This fair is complemented by concerts and three synth-making workshops.

Introduced in the 1960s, the modular synth has recently experienced a rebirth due to its affordability and sonic flexibility, which makes it a revolutionary tool for creativity. Control Voltage is an open forum inviting person-to-person interaction between maker, musician, and attendee – novices and enthusiasts. Interact with artists and tinkerers, share ideas, and explore the ins and outs of this limitless instrument!

The fair will take place on July 6th, 2013 at South Street Seaport, and will feature the interactive fair followed by a concert with Richard Devine, Keith Fullerton Whitman, and Antenes. Workshops involving building voltage-controlled instruments will take place throughout the month at Silent Barn. We're wrapping up the series with a party at Le Baron Chinatown with Gavin Russom.

((audience)) and Harvestworks present Source of Uncertainty

YouTube ublished on Jun 29, 2012 by audiencefest

"On June 28, 2012, Harvestworks and ((audience)), in partnership with River to River Festival, organized Source of Uncertainty and the Control Voltage Faire. As most modular synthesizers are constructed at the cottage industry level and distributed online, it is difficult for users to interact with these instruments. Control Voltage Fair will be the first opportunity on the East Coast for amateur enthusiasts, professionals and the general public to experience analog synthesizer modules produced by DIY manufacturers and crafters. The Control Voltage Fair will examine the origins and future of modular synthesis. The evening's concert, Source of Uncertainty, featured a Buchla 200e recital by three composers exploring this powerful instrument: Alessandro Cortini, Carlos Giffoni, and Mark Verbos. To close the event, Xeno & Oaklander and Loud Objects performed on all-analog instruments."
