Rhyme and Rebus

video upload by Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"One small synthesiser. One guitar pedal.
Recorded in a wooden fisherman’s hut in Captiva, Florida.
As simple as that, at heart.

Back in 2017, I spent six weeks on this isolated island, at the invitation of the Robert Rauschenberg Residency. This is an interdisciplinary artists' residency programme, based on Rauschenberg's belief that art can change the world, nurture and facilitate experimentation, collaboration and innovation.

In the morning, I worked on a book I’ve been writing, then in the afternoon I recorded, every day, for the duration. The results are this series of serene and fluid soundscapes, where I used only the Kilpatrick Phenol synth and an Eventide H9 effects pedal.

The surrounding landscape remains crucial, with osprey, woodpeckers and pelicans accompanying some pieces. Life literally outside the window!

It’s a muted, mediative collection of works, cosy, shimmering and hypnotic. Two pulsing dubbed out works take a darker grainy direction, but overall, it’s an ambient, sunlit bliss-out session.

This was filmed on a GoPro camera in Captiva Florida in March 2017

Testing Modifications With Rough Peter Gunn Theme Song

video upload by John L Rice

"This started out as just a test to see if my new modifications to this system were working (I custom installed the KMIDI expander for the Kilpatrick K2579 sequencer to the side of the 4ms case since I didn’t have enough hp for it to fit normally). The K2579 sequencer is playing the bass line on both the Alesis NanoPiano via MIDI and the eurorack modules via CV/gate (Modcan Triple VCO, SSF multi mode VCF, SSF ADSR/VCA, Rebel Technology Chronos MKII LFO). The lead line is played on a Haken Audio ContinuuMini."

Scanner Live at FoxFest 2022

video upload by Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"This live set was recorded to raise funds for the Red Cross Ukraine and originally transmitted on 21 May 2022, at the end of a long day of live music at FoxFest, a live music event curated by Werra Foxma Records. At the time I was rather suffering from a nasty bout of flu, so clearly wasn't at my best and as such I failed to fix the focus of one of the cameras, so my apologies for that. I hope you will enjoy it, despite that. The show was improvised, as always, so I also had little expectation of what was to follow."

Paleo Hebrew (Experimental Music Video)

video upload by CatSynth TV

"An experimental music video based on the characters of the Paleo-Hebrew alphabet. This alphabet is nearly identical to Phoenician, and is believed to have been used by the ancient Israelites from around 1000-500 BCE after which Aramaic became more prominent, ultimately leading to modern Hebrew script. This is a one-to-one letter correspondence between Paleo-Hebrew and modern Hebrew scripts.

The characters of the alphabet are processed using Max/MSP/Jitter and are triggered via MIDI from the same sequences used for the drums. The 'melodic' sound uses a 22edo tuning, representing the 22 letters of the alphabet.

instruments used:
Yamaha RX5
Kilpatrick CARBON Sequencer
Arturia Synclavier V
Arturia CMI V
Arturia DELAY 201

The original music is based on a rhythm based on Indian classical thekas with 14 beats, including Rupak and Āṛāchārtāl. It features the following instruments:
Yamaha RX5 Drum Machine
Kilpatrick Audio Carbon Sequencer
Octave CAT analog synthesizer
Arturia Pigments

Kilpatrick Format Modular System

video upload by NOISEBUG

"The Kilpatrick Format Modular System is a very unknown format that we are willing to exploit for the good of new formats on the market.

The Kilpatrick 4U modules are a very affordable in comparison to other 4U banana format modular systems. Each module offers dual functions with a single module, thus expanding the possibilities within a smaller system."

New Buchla Format Kilpatrick Audio & A Yellow Sine Sextuple Quadraphonic Spatial Director

video upload by KilpatrickAudio

"The Sextuple Quadraphonic Spatial Director or SQSD is a six-channel quadraphonic mixer and joystick controller designed for the Buchla format with full analog design and flexible CV control."

Some details via Kilpatrick Audio:

"The SQSD combines six joysticks capable of generating control voltage with a six-input equal-power panning mixer, allowing for intuitive and fun direction of spatial sound in both stereo and quadraphonic speaker configurations. It's the ultimate next-level mixer for electronic musicians looking to take their performances to the next level.

The SQSD is made possible with a collaboration between Kilpatrick Audio and A Yellow Sine.

The team consists of:

Patrick McMaster - Composer, performer and electronic music wizard of A Yellow Sine

Andrew Kilpatrick - Conductor of Electricity and founder of Kilpatrick Audio

Joystick Controller

Each of the six joysticks generate two control voltage signals: one for each axis of motion. These CV outputs can modulate parameters on compatible voltage-controlled electronic music equipment. Using the joysticks to control the location of a sound source is intuitive and fun, and the SQSD makes this easy by incorporating six channels of quadraphonic panning.

Quadraphonic Panning

Quadraphonic sound involves the use of four speakers to create an immersive listening experience in which sounds can move around the listener. It’s the most accessible form of what’s called spatial or surround sound since it only requires four speakers.

Two dedicated location control inputs are available for each of the six channels. You can connect control voltage signals from a sequencer, envelope or LFO to these inputs, but the joysticks make quad panning quick and easy. The twelve joystick CV outputs and location control inputs are grouped together, and can be easily patched with shorting bars. Convenient DIP switches on the back of the unit normalize these connections without the need for any patching.

Mixer

Up to six channels of sound can become part of the quadraphonic or stereo spatial direction, with each channel having its own dedicated level control and LED indicator light. There’s a main mix output control as well with LEDs for each of the four outputs."

Phenol Study 27

video by Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"A minor studio study with the Kilpatrick Phenol synth, running into Ableton Live. I added a couple of percussion tracks, but everything else comes from the Phenol and was recorded entirely live. A modest glimpse into building tracks in the studio."
