Modular - complexe sequence

video upload by ALEQ Modular

"One way to build complexe sequences with modular:
- Multiple sequencers (here some Ritournelle CV Generator from LE)
- A Matrix mixer (the Attenuverter bank from LE too)
- Of course, some synth voices, here with the RYK Vector Wave.
- And to glue all together, a delay. The 4MS Dual Looping Delay

The goal is to route the sequences to the synth voices.
With the matrix, we can mix these sequences in real time. Inverting, adjusting the range etc.
And if all sequences have different clock division and number of steps, the result can be very complexe.
To stay in harmony, a quantizer is inserted between the matrix and the synth voices. here a Klavis CalTrans."

Self Playing Eurorack Pipe Organ Patch

video upload by John L Rice

"A relatively simple and mostly self playing eurorack patch that sounds somewhat like a church pipe organ performance? A single Synth Tech Circuit Bent VCO "played" by the Vermona meloDICER pattern generator sequencer with the Strymon Megneto delay in the Pitch Shift setting giving it size and magic as I manually adjust the Wet and Repeats knobs. Additional modules used: Erica Synths Octasource LFO, Happy Nerding MMM VCF, Klavis Quadigy EG, Xaoc Devices Praga VCA/mixer, Circuit Abbey Unify mixer, ADDAC ADDAC812A meter.

Klavis GRAINITY / Multimode and 'Granular' VCF for eurorack / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video about the so called granular filter GRAINITY (by Klavis) I run through the basic filtersweeps for the multimode section and then I spend a lot (a lot a lot) of time trying to explain and demonstrate what the different granular patterns (called structures) are and what they sound like.

To be clear about what 'granular' is and isn't when we're looking at Grainity I'll try to explain in a few words. Grainity does not sample incoming audio so it's not like any other gear or software with the word granular attached to it. In Grainity incoming audio is routed through the filter, there's no buffer or recording, there's no grains or scattering. What Grainity in granular mode does is send the audio sequentially through different types of filters with different settings (these sequences are all presets). The speed at which it cycles through these is determined by either the phase/frequency (zero crossings) or by another signal of your choosing that you can send in seperately and by the setting of the division. The length and type of the sequence is determined by the 'structure'.
In a very simplified way you could think of a sound going through a filter that gets modulated by a stepped LFO at audio rates.

PS: If you think you're hearing a delay and a reverb, it's probably because I added those. Grainity does not provide delay or reverb effects, it's just a multimode/'granular' filter. The effects used here are a Quadraverb (reverb) and an MPX500 (delay) rack effect.

For the bulk of the video I'm using the TWIN WAVES Mk2 dual oscillator as a sound source.

Thanks to Klavis for sending over these units for me to test and demonstrate.

____________________________________________

Keep in mind that this module is degraded from being a production unit to being a pre-production unit. Unfortunately I didn't learn about this until after I made the video.

I'll copy and paste Eric's quote about this from Modwiggler: 'After receiving our first production batch of the Grainity, we noticed operating inconsistencies due to the variability of certain parts.
In order to maintain the highest level of quality and to avoid jeopardizing the reputation of the brand, we have decided not to put these modules on sale. A redesign is required, which postpones the availability of the Grainity to a later date.

Thank you for your patience while waiting for a Grainity that meets your expectations. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.'"

Klavis Grainity, the new granular filter - patches & audio demos

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

You can find additional Klavis Grainity demos in previous posts here.

"Today we take a deep dive with Grainity, the first ever granular filter. It runs a multimode and granular filter in parallel, and proves to be a fun sound design tool. It offers a lot of sounds from subtle textures and metallic sounds, to detuned unison, phaser and of course, broken up granular sounds."

Eurorack Waveshapers - May 2023 comparison

video upload by John Schussler

"Another month, another new set of modules needing listening to. These are all waveshapers in one form or another. Ok, not entirely, the first one's just a filter. So technically it shapes the wave, but not like, folding it or anything.

Anyway.

Just some more modules that seem like they sorta live in the same category, up for comparison and general listening/introduction.

Klavis GRAINITY (and TWIN WAVES) / granular filter for eurorack / first patch

video upload by BRiES

"This is a genuine first patch with the new Grainity filter by Klavis, it's also my first patch with the Twin Waves.

I still haven't read the manual for neither Twin Waves nor Grainity. It's both to challenge myself and to figure out what the things are that I need to spend some time on when doing an extensive playthrough. If it looks like I don't know what I'm doing, it's because at this point for the most part I simply don't.

I'll do some more exploring before diving deep into the inner workings of Grainity."

Superbooth 2023: Klavis - Grainity

video upload by sonicstate

"We spoke to Eric from Klavis about their Grainity granular VCF, which has just completed production and is set to ship soon. This unique module offers a concept that is unusual in the world of modular synthesis, allowing for granular synthesis of filters. The Grainity cuts slices of sounds into different filtering modes and phases, reassembling and rebuilding the audio while remaining entirely in the analog domain. Grainity digitally manipulates the audio circuitry, but there is no digital audio anywhere in or out of the product.

The Grainity's steps can cycle not only in step with incoming cycles, but they can also be imposed at a different frequencies, which makes it capable of creating harmonics and sounds that seem like hidden oscillators. The filter has two outputs, the granular VCF, and the multi-mode VCF, which are independent allowing users to blend both filters using the mix knob, which is also CV controlled. The Grainity features a detect input that is connected to the main audio in, which allows users to choose the cycle based on the order that is coming in or on something else, such as another oscillator or a step sequencer.

Klavis TWO BITS / logic and more / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"TWO BITS is a versatile logic dual module, combining several well known boolean logic functions with a few more complex ones like set/reset behaviour and more (comparator, clockdivider, pulse delay, ...). In this video I demonstrate what every function does, how to combine the top and bottom sections, as well as showing the general workflow of the module and how to control parameters with CV."

BLOOM / Klavis TWO BITS / Metabolic Devices MOONWALKER / Jolin AGOGO / eurorack jam

video upload by BRiES

"I'm really loving the sound of the LPGs in Agogo. It gives the sound some bite without being full on saturated. Even with tame sounds it can really bring some life to the timbre...

Two Bits is used to add triggers (OR) together for the kicks and snare. I used a steady pattern for both of them, and then added a probability gate to the second intputs. Very convenient for adding variation to drums without too much programming.

Moonwalker is doing the 'sync' lead type sound (the module is off screen but you can see its output on the scope. I'm also still trying to find a reverb setting that I really like. This one is... almost there."

A non-sequencer sequence? Polyrhythms via Strymon Magneto!

video upload by John L Rice

"I’m using the 4 clock outputs of the Strymon Magneto delay to trigger 4 random voltages from the Doepfer A-149-4 which are then sent to the Instruo Quad Performance Quantizer which sends the pitch CV and Gates to the 4 voices (Synth Tech E330 VCOs, Klavis Quadigy EG, Xaoc Praga VCA/mixer) and the Magneto provides delays and reverb of course."

Superbooth 22: Klavis - Grainity, Tweakers And Two Bits

video upload by sonicstate

"Eric at Klavis gave us a brief look at Tweakers, a modulation module, and Two Bits a dual logic module, but saved the new unit until last.

Grainity is a granular VCF, which is completely analogue, but slices and reassembles filtered elements according to the incoming audio. There are 13 filter modes which can track and repeatedly divide down the cycle of the incoming signal down until it sounds more like a sequence than grains of audio. It produces unusual, harmonic and non-harmonic effects and is a pretty unique concept.

Grainity is available soon. Price TBC, around 300 euros"

Modular Christmas Carols [Steve's MS-22, Twin Waves MkII, Chainsaw, Quadigy, Ensemble Oscillator...]

video upload by Threetom Modular

"PATCH NOTES BELOW! :)

SEASON GREETING TO EVERYONE IN THE MODULAR COMMUNITY FROM THREETOM MODULAR! I HOPE YOU HAVE THE MOST EXCELLENT HOLIDAYS AND I WISH YOU THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR! :D

* Voice 1 (Bass): A mix of a triangle wave and a square sub coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff is modulated by the Klavis Quadigy envelope generator.

* Voice 2 (Lead): A supersaw coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII going into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff frequency is modulated by the TipTop Z8000 sequencer, asynchronously clocked by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 3 (Pad): Acidrain Chainsaw into a stereo pair of Steve's MS-22 filters. The Chainsaw's waveshape is slowly modulated by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 4 (Bells/counterpoint): 4MS Ensemble Oscillator, manually tweaked throughout the sequence.

All voices go through the ZlobVnicursal VCA, into the Befaco Hexmix and Hexpander combo. The Hexpander sends an effects mix into the Happy Nerding FXaid for reverb (which is then mixed back in through the Hexpanders effect return).

This performance was sequenced by Ableton Live and the Endorphin.es Shuttle control (outside of the shot), based on the midi file 'A Christmas Carol Suite' by Richard Ian (you can find it here: http://midkar.com/holidays/christmas/... )"
