Patch Notes #27 - Eurorack Modular w/ Leap Motion

Published on Dec 2, 2016 Voltage Control Lab

"A fairly simple patch tied back to an Ableton Live set with 6 mono channels of DC offsets in a custom Max4live device routed to the first 6 outs on the ES-8, and a seventh channel doing randomization.

The 6 offsets (more details on the custom device later) are mapped to the middle finger on each hand and their locations in the X, Y and Z axes above the Leap Motion controller using the LeapModulation M4L device.

I’ve set up a pretty simple one voice patch to play, Make Noise DPO Final output to the MMG to the Optomix, and on to Mutable Instruments Clouds in Granular mode. Clouds is routed back into the Expert Sleepers ES-8 inputs for recording.

The left hand middle finger up and down motion (the Y axis) is mapped to control the Optomix level, while the right hand Y axis control is mapped through the Ornament & Crime Quantermain mode for pitch quantization, and then into the exponential FM input on the DPO. The O&C is clocked via Tempi.

The left hand X and Z axes are mapped to control the mod bus index and the angle amount on the Final output. The right hand X and Z axes are mapped to the Clouds position and density CV inputs. The random output from the ES-8 is mapped to the FM bus index on the DPO.

Very simple patch, but pretty dramatic results.

Non Human Device #002 - [REVISITED]

Non Human Device #002 - [REVISITED] from visiophone on Vimeo.

"Non Human Device #002” is part of a series of interactive installations where experimental audiovisual devices/instruments are explored. They are based on the speculative narrative of the project BORIS CHIMP 504, an audiovisual live performance that tells the adventures of a chimp cosmonaut in space.
Every version of the “Non Human Device” installations are based on an alien object/device found by Boris Chimp 504 during his missions through the deep space.

Iso Particle = Live Octatrack sampling-OP1+Reaktor+Leap with Geco

Published on May 29, 2014 A Box In The Sea·11 videos

"One of my favorite Sound scape techniques is to use the Octatrack as an additive live sampler. I'm using 3 custom patches I made on the OP1 as well as 2 Reaktor ensembles and 1 Alchemy patch. The OP1 is also being processed through the Cocoquantus. All other patches are processed through the Big Sky and El Capistan."

Atomic Division = Leap Motion Controller+Modular+Octatrack+Big Sky

Published on May 7, 2014 A Box In The Sea·9 videos

"I wanted to do some experimenting with controlling many parameters on different instruments and effects at the same time. There is knob turning but it's limited for obvious reasons. Geco (the midi program for the Leap Motion) however, gives an amazing amount of control (16 parameters at once and more if you can remember the gestures). I kept this one relatively simple with 11 parameters. 3 on the Big Sky and 8 on the Octatrack. The sound is the Pluck setting on the MI Braids sequenced by the Rene. It is going to a Thru track on the OT with 3 neighbor tracks supplying effects. It is really amazing to control so many things at once. It really is a NEW way to think about sound manipulation because you don't have to automate to get really complex effects in what I see as endless combinations!!"

AeroMIDI 3D MIDI controller software debuts at NAMM 2014

"AeroMIDI 3D MIDI controller software debuts at NAMM 2014. Acoustica's groundbreaking software allows users to trigger notes and MIDI continuous controller messages with hand and finger movements in 3D space. AeroMIDI requires the Leap Motion Controller (or other 3D input devices coming soon). Simply plug in the Leap Motion Controller and AeroMIDI will work with any MIDI software or hardware including synthesizers, lighting rigs, DAWs, effects, virtual instruments, and more. AeroMIDI MSRP is $29.99. Read the press release. For more information, visit us online at www.aeromidi.net."

PRESS Release followed by video:

"Oakhurst, CA (January 13th, 2014) - Acoustica announces the release of AeroMIDI 3D MIDI controller software. This groundbreaking software allows users to trigger notes and MIDI continuous controller messages with hand and finger movements in 3D space. AeroMIDI works with any MIDI software or hardware including synthesizers, lighting rigs, DAWs, effects, virtual instruments, and more.

AeroMIDI enables control of six expression parameters using only one hand, or use both hands and control up to 12 simultaneous expression parameters. User-defined virtual spaces called "cubes" and "zones" allow easy triggering of events, beats or notes. Perform a gesture, such as a two-fingered swipe to the left, and suddenly you've enabled a whole new mode or set of expression controls and MIDI actions.

Simply plug a Leap Motion Controller into a USB port, load and install the AeroMIDI software, and start your MIDI software or external synthesizer. AeroMIDI then sends controller data and notes to MIDI software or external hardware. Control synthesizers, lighting rigs, visualizers, DAWs, effects, virtual instruments, and any other MIDI-capable hardware or software with AeroMIDI.

Product features and benefits:

Gestures translate hand movements with incredibly low latency.

Translate hand & finger movements and rotation to MIDI controller data with incredibly low latency.

Play notes by moving or rotating hands.

Configurable virtual 3D cubes let you build your own custom controller interface.

Simultaneously control MIDI expression parameters in three dimensions, including hand rotation.

Windows- and Mac-compatible. (Windows 7+ and Mac OSX 10.6+)

Requires the Leap Motion Controller. (Support for other 3D input devices coming soon.)

Works with all MIDI software, hardware and DAWs, including Acoustica's Mixcraft 6.

Dependent on MIDI software or hardware used, AeroMIDI may be used to:

Start and stop (retrigger) music loops via gestures.

Beat juggle by moving or rotating hands.

Control any synthesizer or effect parameters such as resonance, glide or a dubstep wobble.

Control MIDI-enabled lighting equipment and visuals.

Play notes and chords.

The sky's the limit!

AeroMIDI MSRP is $29.99. Visit Acoustica at Winter NAMM at Booth 6428, Hall A for a one-on-one demonstration of this trailblazing new software. For more information and review copy inquiries, please contact Anthony Conte at anthony@acoustica.com or visit us online at aeromidi.net."

AeroMIDI has been updated with gesture tracking and hand control!

Published on Jan 6, 2014

"We've added gestures and the new action cards that allow you much more flexibility. Control your music in 3D style today. Move or rotate your hands in 3D space to control parameters. Downloads are limited so download while you can. Download a copy at http://www.aeromidi.net/ . Note that this currently requires a Leap Motion Controller. (Other 3D controllers will be supported soon.)"

Geco MIDI Gesture Control For Leap Motion - Review

Published on Dec 3, 2013 sonicstate·580 videos

"Leap Motion brings us gestural control, Geco turns it into MIDI data for control over OSC and CopperLAN too."

Leap Motion on eBay

Geco: https://airspace.leapmotion.com/apps/geco-midi/osx

"GECO is one of the easiest and most powerful solutions to interact with MIDI/OSC/CopperLan through touchless control. Our custom multi-staged processing engine ensures an extremely low processing overhead and near zero latency, while still providing you with beautiful real-time visual feedback and powerful customization capabilities. GECO has been designed for live performance and quick configuration during rehearsal by industry professionals that have years of experience with high-speed low-latency electronic music software.

GECO doesn't produce or manipulate sound directly, its purpose is to control other software or hardware that understands MIDI, OSC or CopperLan.

Features
40 different control streams with both hands
Any control stream can be mapped to MIDI CC, Channel Pressure, Pitchbend and Pitchwheel messages on 16 different channels
High-resolution OSC support with customizable paths and OSC server selection
Full support for CopperLan data output, assignment, learning and mapping storage
Tunable gesture boundaries with support for defining dead zones around the center positions
Instantly switch between related control streams by opening or closing your hands
Carefully designed GUI for an immediate overview of the active MIDI mappings
Real-time low-latency visual feedback of your hand movements and MIDI data
Integrated virtual MIDI port on MacOSX, additional freely available software can be used to send MIDI to other applications on Windows
Connects to any known MIDI output port on your computer, for instance hardware synthesizers, on both MacOSX and Windows
Fully customizable user interface (colours, graphical elements)
Flexible document management that can be loaded while performing gestures
High performance and near-zero latency engine with virtually no CPU impact when the real-time visualizations are hidden
MIDI decimation setting to allow integration with legacy hardware that has limited MIDI bandwidth
What's New
Version 1.1.0
Added gesture axis boundaries that are configurable per document with minimum and maximum limits. This also allows for dead zones to be created around the center.
Added Channel Pressure (Aftertouch) as a supported MIDI message.
Added OSC output through per-gesture configurable channels.
Added configurable per-gesture OSC paths.
Added CopperLan output through per-gesture configurable channels.
Added CopperLan gesture destination learning.
Added per-document CopperLan assignments storage.
Per-gesture specialized output data rendering for either MIDI, OSC or CopperLan.
Experimental support for MacOSX 10.6.8 without any guarantees of stability nor performance since this in not an officially supported platform for the Leap Motion controller."
